So 200-300 tickets. I wonder if it's worth it.

Going to games is far better than watching them games on TV. Having the games on the box is good for the games profile. I'd imagine the hope is that the strategy will pay off in the long-term. Aren't the number of live games supposed to ramp up to the point where there'll be a game shown every week?

Do the teams get payment anymore for Live Games.

No.

There was a fund that clubs qualified to share based on a certain numbers of matches being shown live on TV. If I remember correctly last season this was €50k which was not paid out, as the FAI retrospecively changed the qualifying criteria so no club got any payout. In others words the FAI simply cancelled this.

AFAIK the FAI have been more upfront this season and simply canceled this fund from the outset.

Cheers Ezekial I knew this as found out this earlier this season and couldnt believe it. Crazy that the clubs are actually losing money through lost attendances for the benefit of RTE and Setanta.

That's shocking and a slap in the face to the clubs concerned.

We have some game against Kazan on the Thursday, so there is no chance of us playing Friday night if we qualify for the next round.

TV coverage may cost you money on the day, but in the longer term should open up a lot more opportunities for commercial revenue, or at least help keep current sponsors aboard.

Thats thr crux of the issue. I've no doubt that TV coverage of the leagee helps overall, but with so fight pretty much everywhere, a drop of 200 in the gate is a huge drop, and felt almost immediately

Most other leagues main income is from TV revenue, while we actually lose money on TV games...

Yes. Sligo/Derry was moved on saturday. "Participation Agreement"

gufct
05/09/2011, 2:15 PM
yes they do I was amazed when I checked after the Rovers game at the start of the season. We would have lost at least €5,000 on Gate Receipts alone. An absolute joke that LOI clubs are in fact paying for TV Coverage and sponsorship these days is non existent even for live games.

Surely television appearances are written into pitchside advertising and shirt sponsorship deals?

Then again, probably not given how inept the business practices in this league tend to be.

The sponsorship well has dried up completely and in Terryland we have lost 15/20 signs half of which have been supporters of United since we began but who have gone out of business in the last 2/3 yrs.

Hard to put into any contracts when the amount of games won't be known

Last year we were on TV 11 times, this year we’ve been on twice (1 on RTE, 1 on Setanta - with one on each channel scheduled for coming weeks)

How are Pats supposed to go to companies and say “ we can guarantee you live coverage x times a year” when they haven’t a clue themselves. Even ‘pay per TV game’ type situations wouldn’t be suitable

For the record here’s Pats live games over the last few years;

15 in 2007 (2 on RTE, 9 on Setanta, 4 on TG4)
15 in 2008 (3 on RTE, 12 on Setanta)
6 in 2009 (1 on RTE, 3 on Setanta, 2 on TG4)
11 in 2010 (7 on RTE, 4 on Setanta)

I could count on one finger the amount of times Harps have been shown live in the last few seasons.

Being in the Premier Division does help. If there's no market for First Division in the stands, there's not going to be one for tv either.

It was the Sunday after my stag party, the game was on live on Setanta. My uncle watched it in a busy pub in Glasgow, he said the camera man zoomed in on us behind the goals quite a number of times. Drink is a curse.

Due to the FAI Cup semi-final fixtures, Shamrock Rovers Europa League campaign and televised games, a number of fixtures have been shuffled in order to accommodate these events. Shamrock Rovers clash with Bohemians on the 5th October at 7.05pm will be now shown live on Setanta Ireland. Dundalk v Derry City will also be shown on the station. Shamrock Rovers game with Derry City will air on RTE TWO on Thursday 13th October.
