Theres no point in being honest with the Mayo League, they care very little for volunteerism or indeed the actual sport as can be seen for last number of years with their petty fines, unless youre involved with the bigger clubs in which case they would probably get a clap on the back.Shameful to lose point from the charlestowns first game over the keeper who actually nearly cost them the game anyways!

Very little reward for honesty surely. Only way we would have been found out is if Mulranny reported us within 10 days and i dont think they had any idea he wasn fully registered given the fact that we ourselves didnt even know until Monday evenin. Club would be appealing the severity of the punishment but as you all know the cost to do so is scandelous and they would not go back on their decision in any case.

A mistake was made, Charlestown owned up to it but the sanction was a bit harsh to be honest. If it was a one point deduction, fair enough but if that is the punishment Charlestown got and they were honest about their mistake, what sort of punishment would a club that did not have the same honesty as Charlestown would most likely get? As we often read on the newspapers, in the criminal justice system, mitigating factors are taken into account before the punishment fits the crime. To be honest, there should have been some leniency shown on this case, a slap on the wrists maybe, but I think the actual punishment is too harsh and not only myself would sympathise with Charlestown, I think a lot of people in Westport would show some sympathy too. Westport United once got relegated after a massive points deduction back in 1997, accompanied by a big fine (which got reduced following arbitration), which was a traumatic experience at the time for everyone in the club.

in all fairness, given that it was the first game and knowing a rule is a rule also, probably the boys (csi mayo league) are probably applauding themselves on their investigative work in nabbing the club, as thunderblaster correctly said, could the punishment be any worse if they were reported? anyways, from what i am heard earlier this eve, charlestown could have sought a postponement due to a bereavement, which we are sure could not help in this unfortunate infringement. all on that mayo league committee should be ashamed of themselves if that is indeed true.

If this was a genuine mistake i think C'town have being very hard done by. From reading the above posts i take it they would gladly have taken the punishment considering they came forward with the mistake. All i can say is what example does this set for every other club in mayo ? cheat and say nothing and take your chances( and probley not get caught) or in this case do what C'town did and get over kill !.
I'm just putting this out there but are you telling me that they were the only club in mayo that played an unregistered player the first game of the season ? possibly but i'de doubt it..

I know that certain people will not believe that it was a genuine mistake but hand on heart, it was. Yes Spectator, in the days leading up to this game our manager had a bereavement of a family member in England and I would imagine if not for that unfortunate incident that this whole situation would have probably been realised and would not have taken place.
Once again, when we realsied our mistake we contacted the Mayo League on the Monday after the game, told them exactly what had happened and now we are getting the maximum punishment. I mean if we knew then what we know now we would have been as well riding our luck and taking a chance on not saying anything cause the punishment is exactly the same. We all knew we were going to loose the point we won against Mulranny, naturally enough, and expected a fine of some sort, but to get deducted a further 3 points and to recieve the fine we did, to put it mildly, given our honesty over this matter I think is unfair.
Massive mountain to climb now if we are going to have any chance of promotion.

Cost us the league. We never got the points for this game and your manager knew exactly what he was doing fielding them players. Don't try and compare that shameful act with this one as it sounds, from what GavsUp is saying, a seemingly innocent mistake.

sorry i should have simplified it a bit more. now are you ready - the ballyvary defender passed the ball back to the ballyvary goalkeeper who in turn kicked the ball downfield towards the charlestown goal. (still with me?) The ball then preceeded to bounce in the charlestown box over the charlestown keeper and into the net, GOAL ballyvary! i hope that explains everything. if not leave your name and address and i'll draw you a picture and send it to you!

Its beyond me why you feel the need to be sarcastic about it when you explained it so badly in the first attempt... Charlestown missing some players including myself with exams starting etc but from the match report I got we should have won quiet comprehensively. Missed a number of 1 v 1's and conceded a bizzare goal. A strong wind made it difficult to play football also. Other results bar the Mulranny win went our way so its far from over yet. Also our main fella from last season has decided to come out of retirement and is back training so if last season is anything to go by goals from now on in should not be a problem. We hope so at least!!!

The Snugboro website is right ... the points are rewarded to Mulranny in Division 1 and rightly so. Also Ballyheane lost 3 points in Division 3 but also lost the game in question so they got no more punishment

I have to give credit where its due to Charlestown at the weekend .... to be 3-0 down and a man down and then come back and win aganist Killala was massive and surely that will spring board ye on for the rest of the season..... think ye can still win Division 1 in fairest

Thanks very much Swinford. I was unable to make the game myself but they done great to say the least. Going to Killala trying to get a result with 11 v 11 is hard enough never mind playing three quaters of the game with 10 men an being 3 goals down early on. Hopefully we can carry this form into the league now.
Swinford getting a few good results in Super League, best of luck for remainder of the season.

well k+k are clearly better this season than id imagined. mulranny and westport c worse than id imagined,

still charlestown for the double now even without their deduction. as bad as we were against urlaur in the semi, we were robbed by 2 penalty shouts- 1 defo- not given too us and one of their goals was blatantly offside. easily a better team

as i see it, its between K+K, us and Charlestown for the promotion spots.

If this is Charlestown's closest rival to the title then it's not saying much for the rest of the other teams in the league. Shipping 11 goals in 2 games against them and both times at home will only demoralise the k/k players i'm sure. Charlestown starting to flex their muscles and at the halfway stage..... the other teams are lucky that the league took points off them or they would be well clear at this stage. I wonder what master plan the league have up their sleeves to prevent them getting promoted this Season?????

They might just try something pathetic all right. On another note I heard through the grape vine that player of the division last year has returned after a little time off to aid the Charlestown cause??? But on a sadder note that the Rock at the back since 2005 ... " The Situation" has had to emmigrate, sad to hear but apparently the depth and quality comming through from last years excellent youth team the hole may already be fixed!!!! still sad to see some excellent tallent's from all over the county having to pack their bags in order to get work. All I say is best of luck to you guy's and see yous when you come back on the green pitches of Mayo in the not too distant Future. Slan mo Chara agus bi curamach

Charlestown 2 2 Urlar. Urlar very unlucky in this one and will never have as good a chance to beat us as they missed a host of chances (Robinson:-)) to bury the game and were by far the better side. Granted we were missin alot of players but put in a very poor show and were very lucky to get draw in the end and will have to improve if we to beat them in final. Sure urlar will agree the man in the middle was as poor as I have ever witnessed in Mayo football 2 pens that should never have been given and ridiclous decisions all throughout the game. He even sent our manager off the field while he was trying to attend to one of our lads who had a bad head injury leaving nobody on the pitch to attend to him which was an absolute disgrace. Leaving a lad on the ground with nobody to attend to him because of a man in the middle going on power trip, they ment to be in there to look after players, he should be ashamed of himself...

Back n the game

Mulranny given a walkover as Knock Kiltimagh couldn't field a team, disgracefull in my opinion for the side currently 2nd in the table. Mulranny also given w/o against Urlar as they didn't travel either. Nothing against the Mulranny lads but they have now been given 8 points this season and it looks like teams just arn't interested in fighting for points and just dont care anymore. With such few teams in each division these "freebies" will only leave 1 position left to fill at the end of the season at promotion time. Why dont sides travel to mulranny ?

Gavs Up
05/07/2011, 10:01 AM
Very depressin stuff surely for a team to get 8 points without kicking a ball. if knock and urular dont go down there and play surely they should be given a big fine and deducted points cause it not fair on the rest of the other teams who make the effort. Here also lies the problem with these 8 team divisions cause if teams start conceding games like what has happened to Mulranny how is any of the rest of the teams gonna catch them with so little games to play. 1 1 down in Achill this weekend and you can see why they dont lose many, are a very good strong team defensively with a keeper who must be worth points every game he is that good. Saying that we missed a pen that would have won the game near the end. Westport hitting top gear now aswel and back in with a shout for promotion as i always said they are a decent side. Everyone playin for 2nd now as nobody interested in travelling to Mulranny...Farce
