There has been speculation that this highly thought of kid will play for us, plys his trade at Aston Villa, and has just been chosen for the Under 19's.

Not sure if I should have started a new thread. but here goes, mods please move if necessary.

Sean Murray is also highly rated and made it on the bench a few times, Sheffield united's Matty Harriott made his debut against Doncaster...both are English born ( shock horror )

Ireland's future midfield? Probably not considering Trap's conduct in relation to McCarthy!

Great goal from Sean Murray - have a look. Just read too that Man City tried to sign him during the summer, so he must be okay!

On for the last 5 minutes against Liverpool. Fair play the lad. Just turned 19. Prospect.

Cracking tackle from him, scampered into the box, took a nick on the toe and got a yellow for his troubles...

He should have been given a penalty kick, not booked for diving. If two minutes on the pitch is anything to go by, this kid looks great.

Just showed some great trickery after winning the ball but was booked (unfairly) for diving. He's certainly not lacking in confidence anyway.

Yeah he played in the 19s didn't he with Egan and them, saw him in the 5-1 game against Spain I think

He's been with our underage teams for 3 or 4 years and has reiterated his commitment in newspaper interviews.

He looked very tidy when he came on at a crucial point in the game. Should have had at least a free kick for his supposed dive. Looked very enthusiastic but wonder if he'd have the discipline to play centrally for Villa at the moment. Perhaps if they get relegated...

Daniel Johnson is probably ahead of him in the pecking order for central midfielders.

Probably not but looking at their fixtures there's no game you'd expect them to win.

I hope Villa look to get the yellow card recinded because that was a definite penalty and definitely not a dive.

Because he can't play on the wing?

You can't get a yellow card rescinded to my knowledge

Why bother anyway if possible, it's not like he'll get a reputation as a diver from one game or that he'll play enough games and get booked enough before end of season to get a ban...not worth the cost of appealing ( eventhough it's probably an immaterial amount

You'd be surprised how much this lad might get booked if he gets enough time on the pitch...lets just say he doesn't shy away from putting in tackles. He and some of the other youngsters could well get a look on Monday with the 48 hour turnaround.

What's his Irish background? I know Morocco is involved somewhere.

EDIT: Wiki tells me he was born in London and is eligible for Italy and Morocco also but Ireland is the country of his grandparents. I'm guessing his paternal grandparents are both Irish then, hence the second name.

Do all bookings not reset after this weekend anyway, and albrighton and inzogia are back so wouldn't worry about it

Indeed it is, but it's certainly not Moroccan or Italian; that's where I was going with the presumption!

Indeed he did, I hope we get to seem more of him in the coming games for Villa, robbed one player and beat 2 other before he was brought down.
Would be nice if he started the next game, but unlikely I guess.

Interesting that Carruthers was held out of Villa reserves' 2-0 win over Sunderland yesterday while all of the other regulars played. Couldn't find a reason but with Herd and Warnock picking up injuries I suppose its possible he's being rested for Sunday's trip to Old Trafford (though I'd doubt it).

No run yesterday despite an utterly dire performance from albrighton, Mcleish really doesn't have a clue, would of been good opportunity for him against some very average defenders especially when the game became so open in last 20 and plenty of tired legs

Charlie Darwin

I think he would have been brought in had Collins not been forced off. Heskey had to be brought on because he was the only striker left in the squad and it was probably 50/50 between Bannan and Carruthers at the end.

Reserves final today between United and Villa.

Heres how they lined out.

http://i50.tinypic.com/15rhbnl.png

1st Half:
Thought Derrick Williams was solid, didn't really have any sort of stand out moments which I guess is fine as a centre half. Seems to have a penchant for the odd rampage forward in the same vein as Dunne occasionally.

Enda Stevens did quite well, was solid defensively and got forward to help the attack. Linked up with Daniel Johnson effectively and also put in some good crosses.

Samir Carruthers started on the right where he was very isolated, swapped positions with Grealish about midway through the half and came in to the game a bit more. Had a few misplaced passes but didn't seem to be flying in to challenges as much as before. Had a great chance to score on the stroke of half time after a decent one-two saw him alone, 10 yards out with only the keeper to beat, but allowed the defender to recover and get enough on his shot to send it over.

Jack Grealish was not in the game too much, especially after moving out on the right from where Villa don't seem to like to attack. Did seem to defend well on the few occasions he had to.

Michael Drennan was better up front than he has been in the past couple games I saw him, won a few balls in the air and linked up well with the midfield. Had a good chance to score off a Johnson cross but wasn't able to convert it (some decent defending as well).

2nd Half:
More of the same from Williams and Stevens. Carruthers stayed in the middle and came in to the game more including another great chance that was just saved by the United keeper. Grealish was brought off after 65 or so minutes. Drennan faded a bit as the match went on.

Robbie Brady came on for United Reserves around the 48th minute and made a huge impact. He was playing on the right (he's usually plays on the left) and caused some problems for Johnson and Stevens (who didn't do too poorly).

In the end United won on penalties after a 0-0 draw, Carruthers was the only Irishman to take one and he had his saved.

Nope, they didn't mention him (I suppose its possible McLeish wants to give him a run out Sunday, but I doubt it). He's looked OK when I've seen him.

Carruthers played for us in the 1-0 defeat to Portugal tonight with the under 19's and was be far the standout player. I would definitely be moving him up to the under 21 team.

I don't mean that to be insulting to anyone per se, I mean i have been to Talladega to watch Nascar so i really can't talk...
