No idea if I am right but Villa fans seem like...the American equivalent of rednecks? Any truth to that?

Not sure why you think that. They're from Birmingham, West Midlands; not Birmingham, Alabama.

Just from some Brit tourists I have met here that offered up wives for the night, etc...(to my shock)...Probably just a small sample.
I dont even know where west midlands is. Birmingham howver is really nice, with a lot of RTJ golf courses. I was surprised.

West midland is fairly self explanatory, to the West of the middle, which is more than you can say for
the American mid-west, which seems to be in the North East!!!

Ah.
The NE? I think of Iowa for the midwest. One of my least favorite states by the way, right behind Illinois and Indiana. (Nebraska taking the cake.)
And Hawai'i is not like people think it is, if you venture inward from the hotel.
What is the most under-rated place in Ireland? That's what i would like to know. Like if somone was traveling to Ireland and said, I want to do something totally different off the beaten path...what would it be?

I've stopped taking those fans forums seriously. Knee-jerk reactions are the order of the day. It's almost impossible to guage how a lad is doing. Just check out the Sean Scannell thread on Down at the Mac forum. Half of the posters reckon he's rubbish and can't beat a man, the other half think the exact opposite. I check a good few others and they're all the same. The Hibs forum, half of them were calling for Butcher to replace Nutsy last week. Then they beat Celtic.
I'm pretty much convinced foot.ie is the sanest fans forum in the world at this stage.

Completely agree, Yard of Pace.

As an experience, reading club fan forums is what I imagine it must be like to visit Eamon Dunphy's mind, such is the bluster and consistency of opinion contained within. Occasionally you'll be treated to something genuinely insightful but I have my doubts whether it's worth the effort. I must admit, the McClean poppygate saga provided some wicked entertainment for the discerning trainwreck voyeur though.

I share your high opinion of foot.ie also, which I would liken to a wonderful voyage through the cerebrum of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg.

Alberts or Hibs?

(sorry, an "in" joke)

EG is most definitely in on that one.
I think he's an Alberts man like sixesandsevens, if memory serves me correctly.

You were unwilling to nail your colours to any mast. :)

Carruthers featured in the second half of yesterday's friendly with Shamrock Rovers, the only other Irish Villain on show being Ciaran Clark.

"Samir is offensive, that's his strength," said Lambert. "There are a lot of good players in the side at the minute that he will have to try and dislodge. He's a young lad learning about the workings of the game but he's done fine."

Just scored his first senior goal to draw MK Dons level at home to Bristol City. His Ireland U21 and former Aston Villa teammate Derrick Williams is one of three Irishmen in the City defence.

Scored a terrific goal against Oldham on Saturday - great turn to beat his man, followed by a Grealish-esque diagonal run across the defence before cutting the ball back to the opposite corner of the net - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t47pkys4Kyw&list=UUCuo5VY346080kg6D3Fz3-Q&feature=c4-overview - goal at about the 1:00 mark

quick tip if you want to link straight to a specific time in a youtube video you add "&t=XmYs" to the end of the link where X is the minutes and Y is the seconds so to go straight to 1 minute 1 second the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t47pkys4Kyw&list=UUCuo5VY346080kg6D3Fz3-Q&feature=c4-overview&t=1m1s

Dammit!!! Another crocked international/potential international  - and he seemed to be doing well for them - his recent goal for them was class. Let's hope he gets well soon and either breaks into the Villa squad or gets a good move, maybe to a Championship team, next season.

Bit harsh to say he's crocked. He'll miss the last two months of the season.

Hopefully it's a sign that Lambert is seriously considering him for the squad and not just one last look before offloading him - would be nice to add him to our growing list of midfield options - he got a couple of very decent goals for MK Dons last season

Carruthers has been left out of the first team who have made the trip to Texas. However, what is a surprise is Enda Stevens' inclusion and our Jack is included too. Carruthers, Drennan and Burke to possibly go out on loan?

there were rumours a few weeks ago that MK Dons had bid to sign him on a permanent deal - http://www.football-rumours.co.uk/astonvilla-rumours.php (scroll down to 23 Jun 2014) - but nothing since
also it's not the most reputable of sources.

It seems league 1 or champsionship are a black hole for promising young players.

Managers tend to go with tried and trusted leagues in Europe to bring in players rather than buy from the lower divisions.

Take Stephen Gleeson he seemed like a cut above the rest anytime I saw him in midfield but yet he hasn't got a chance anywhere higher. Same goes with hoolahan only got a chance because of norwichs progression, but again no one came in for him.

it's worrying because he seemed like a decent prospect a year or two ago, but now more than likely a life of destitution awaits in the lower echelons of Englands football leagues..

Charlie Darwin
05/08/2014, 12:31 PM
Take a look at who Stephen Gleeson plays for, Paul. Grealish has advanced from League One too. It's fair to say Carruthers' situation might be different had he not gotten a season-ending injury while at MK.

paul_oshea
05/08/2014, 1:32 PM
Ya i know he moved from MK whats your point? He is still in the lower leagues of England and unless Brum go up, which I don't see happening this year he will be still in the lower leagues come next year.

Premier League.

Dv 1/2/3 = lower leagues.

Stuttgart88
05/08/2014, 1:34 PM
Leagues One and Two.

Premier League and Championship = upper leagues :)

Charlie Darwin
05/08/2014, 1:56 PM
You said Gleeson hasn't got a chance anywhere higher when clearly he just has. Fact is players have to work their way up the leagues unless they have outrageous talent, so calling the lower leagues a black hole is a misnomer as the only players who get sucked in are those who've found their level.

paul_oshea
05/08/2014, 2:08 PM
That could be true, but I was saying all these young prospects that are maybe capable of playing in the Premier League are dwindling in Champsionship and league 1 and 2..

To counter your point hoolahan spent all his time down there but was well able play in premiership, so i wouldnt say they found their level necessary, its more that managers in pl as i said earlier go with the tried and trusted.

Charlie Darwin
05/08/2014, 2:22 PM
Found their level as in it's more or less where they should be at that stage in their careers. All credit to Wes and he did take to the Premier League well but the reason it took him so long to get there is because he was never setting the lower leagues ablaze with his performances.

Olé Olé
05/08/2014, 2:37 PM
Shaun Williams went to Millwall in January. Gleeson to Brum. Judge, Douglas and McCormack are coming up to Championship with Brentford. Lee Frecklington is coming up with Rotherham and has garnered interest from other Championship clubs, apparently. As regards Wolves, well that is clearly a strange one.

I think with Wes, he's comfortable at almost any level because of his style of play. He did have that season in League One where he managed to bag plenty of goals and that was, in a way, his breakthrough but Lambert seemed to find that Hoolahan was more than capable of translating his ability to find and create space and use incisive passing at any level, regardless of who he was opposing.

Samir Carruthers was told he’d be given the chance to succeed Dele Alli in central midfielder and his performances in the later stages of the last campaign would suggest he’s more than capable of doing so, while Darren Potter should be partnering him.

Seemingly going a little under the radar so far this season, Carruthers appears to have settled into Championship football pretty well so far, starting all three of MK Dons' games this season, setting up the winning goal tonight as well as having a shot saved.

Is he playing as a centre mid or winger? I see Diego Poyet has signed on loan for them from West Ham and he's a centre mid.

Thought it worth noting that Carruthers got his first Championship goal yesterday in the defeat to Blackburn Rovers. He has established himself in the MK Dons midfield with 34 appearances this season, although with 10 yellows and one red, he might want to work on his discipline

Er...Call him up Trap? Seriously, though, this is frustrating (as well as totally gross) - he gets released by Aston Villa but starts to build a reasonably decent career at MK Dons, with the result that he could be brought into the Senior international squad in the not-too-distant future...and then he does this. I hope he knuckles down and realises that he could yet be a reasonably talented player with a fine career rather than being a reasonably talented player who knocks around the lower leagues, because he'd rather indulge in regular drunken horseplay (sorry, couldn't resist). Interestingly, one of his partners-in-crime at Cheltenham was former U-21 international James Collins, who seems to be fully committed to bouncing around Leagues One and Two.
