Had the pleasure of being with 4083 other hardy souls in England's northeast on Saturday as I watched Wednesday score 5 for the first time in my life as they beat Hartlepool. I suppose you could say Owls spanked the Monkeys :D. Lovely 5th goal by Clinton Morrison who only came on as a sub. Nice compact ground. Result left Wednesday top of the league. Last time I saw that was when they were in the Premiership and they lead the way after 4 games under Pleat, Just avoided relegation though at the end of that season. I didn't see it, but I believe Jeff Stelling didn't take the result too well on Sky:

Ipswich going well in the Championship. Be prepared for the media frenzy here if it continues. Leeds also getting back to where they belong (for the moment).

I've been following Gillingham myself for a good few years now, ever since 2 of their players were on loan with Longford a few years back. Want to see Colchester do well as Dave Mooney is now playing with them, and he was a hero in Town colours. I've backed John O'Flynn for top scorer in League 1 as well so will be shouting him on for the season. Would like to see Ipswich go up, just to see Roy back in the Premiership.

Pardew had to leave West Ham after a difficult relatonship with some players, especially Carl Fletcher. I wonder if something similar has happened in this case.

Rumours are awash that Forest might go into Admin; Billy gets the sack; a possible take-over - there's no end to it and there is no statement from the Board - which doesn't help and only creates more speculation. Rumours pointing to the appointment of Martin O'Neill were doing the rounds a few weeks ago and this might stack up if an Irish backer came in.
Whatever happens, all is not well at NFFC.
Just wondering if anyone here has heard anything re an Irish consortium/possible investment or take-over?
Haven't heard anything but these sort of rumours often have no basis. There was a rumour of a Wednesday take over for the best part of a year and it came to....nought.

I've not heard anything solid regarding Forest and an Irish consortium.
I think Doughty and MO'N (plus families) were spotted having a meal together and somebody put 2 and 2 together about MO'N replacing Davies. It got the fans a bit excited but Doughty and MO'N go way back apparently and are good friends.
I can see why Davies is annoyed. He needed to build on last seasons successful league campaign by buying a few players to help bulk up the squad but the acquisition panel take about 3 months to decide on something resulting in Billy boy getting frustrated and running to the local rag moaning about the lack of progress.

Darren Ferguson sacked by Preston. Alex Ferguson takes back the 3 Man U players the club had on loan at Preston. Hardly a football decision and I'd say the players are none too pleased.

Tony Pulis (another fully paid up member of the Fergie Fan Club, see also Allardyce) has now demanded the re-call of his two loan players, Danny Pugh and Michael Tonge, from Preston back to Stoke. Obviously for footballing reasons, and nothing to do with his friendship with Baconface.

Wednesday sack their Manager, Irvine. I suppose when you're leading three times against Peterborough and lose 5-3, it had to happen.
Hmmm, please God not Roy Keane. Roy Hodgson or Sam Allardyce would do or will it be someone who has been on the threadmill for a while like Ian Dowie.

Hodgson isn't a bad manager. His few months in Liverpool weren't anything to write home about but considering the detrius he left by Rafa and his previous career, I'd take him.

I'm sure it is the award that a manager would take most pride in, being voted first by people that actually know about the game.
I see Danny Wilson is the only non-PL manager to have won it, or at least to win it for a season outside of the PL.

Danny Wilson! Made a pig's ear out of managing Wednesday but then who hasn't (Big Jack, Big Ron and Howard Wilkinson aside). Shows Ferguson is not particularly popular among his fellow managers and by and large the award seems to go to those who did well with a so-called lesser club.

He's obviously doing a good job there, but isn't it a bit early to be getting carried away? Can't blame you I suppose, it's been a while since ye've experienced the dizzy heights of 6th place!
Just asking Owlsfan a question never said anything about getting carried away! Kenny has said since the start one game at a time and that we won't win all our games obviously but we will try. I agree with him totally as what's the point in getting carried away and saying for example we will go unbeaten this month when there's a chance we won't! Anyway going off topic now.

I'll try to redeem myself a bit. Heading over to Derby in a couple of weeks, going to their home game against Barnsley. Things are very rocky over there at the minute I hear, I think the fans are having some protest before their match against Leicester at the weekend. They don't seem to be happy at all with their American owners, who don't seem to have any interest in giving the club money to progress, a situation you'll be familiar with Rafa. They had their lowest attendence of the season on Saturday, just over 23,000, which is very poor by their exceptional standards. Suppose it doesn't help that their main rivals, Forest, are on such an upward spiral and even Leicester are experiencing more exciting times under Sven.

So you're judging Dalglish on a few matches? Alan Irvine won his first 4 matches for Wednesday. Some fans were calling him "the Messiah" and...the club got relegated and he was sacked this season. Let's judge him after 6 months.

Sometimes you wonder why you're interested in this game. Sitting snugly in front of Soccer Saturday with Jeff Stelling and his panel of Alcos. Your eye watches the video printer. Big match today. The proverbial 6 pointer against local rivals, Huddersfield. Step out to put on some toast. 0-2 down when I arrive back. Ah well, that's that then. But suddenly 1-2 and then 2-2 at half time. No more channel surfing for me. This is going to be a tense 45 minutes. Ignoring "Unbelievable Jeff" Kamara and Phil Thompson almost having apoplexy in excitement everytime the ball goes near the goal in Bolton vs Fulham, screams of "Chance!!" from Charlie Nicholas, my eyes are glued to the scores coming in. Twice more Jeff Stelling brings us to Hillsboro. Wednesday now 4-2 up. "Unbelievable Jeff!!" that's what I say. 10 minutes to go and of course another visit to Sheffield and it's now 4-3. I start to eat my thumb nail. No more visits, no more visits please!! The final scores start to come in. The Blades win. Stelling says it's a great day for the Sheffield clubs. Is the other game over? Still no sign as I watch the scores coming in. They're nearly all in now but the Wednesday result remains in blue on the scorecard. 6 minutes overtime now surely it must be over. Jeff Stelling screams as only they can scream on Sky: "THERE'S BEEN ANOTHER GOAL AT HILLSBORO!! BUT WHICH WAY HAS IT GONE??". My heart sinks. The reporter relays the news as one can hear the referee blow the final whistle in the back ground. The 7th minute of injury time. 4-4.
Is there a worse feeling in the world than your team conceding a last minute goal? The result hangs like a cloud over my head for the whole weekend.
Sigh. What torture will the rest of the season and Euro 12 bring? Who cares? Bring it on...

Sometimes one can get such a boost following a team, be it big or small. Last night it was the turn of Chelsea fans. A friend told me the odds on that result when Barca were leading 2-0 was 900-1. Hence the eternal attraction of the game.
One of my few moments was last weekend. Blades and Owls fighting out for automatic promotion spot in Division One. Owls have a history of conceding last minute goals (who will forget Brian Kidd on his two knees on the pitch at Old T when Man U scored the last minute winner all those years ago against...Wednesday). They were also leading Huddersfield 4-2 and drew 4-4 this season, conceding in the 6th minute of injury time! The list is endless.
So Blades 4 points ahead this Saturday but tricky away game against MK Dons and Owls at home to their bogey side, Carlisle. Possibility of getting gap down to one point. Things going well as I still in front of Sky. Owls winning (1-0). Blades losing (Alan Smith once of Man U scores for MK Dons). Adds on Sky in the 80th minute so I go to BBC. Why oh why? Carlisle equalise in 82 minute. Wife leaves the room as she doesn't like to hear me cursing and swearing at Gabby Yorath. Back to Sky.
All the results come in in dribs and drabs. "Please please score". Only one result out of them all still left. Jeff Stelling says there has been a goal at Hillsboro and.....

Oh indeed but sometimes not. Wednesday had won their first 6 games at home so I went to see the 7th (against Brentford). A turgid 0-0.
On the Championship front, it is interesting that for the second season in the row a team may may bounce from Div 1 to the Premiership (Norwich and now possibly Soton). Although I have a soft spot for Leeds, not displeased that Warnock hasn't made much of a fist of it so far. Coventry say hello to Division One for the fist time since the 1960s and Forest, who looked doomed a while ago, are now safe.
