histronut this cup was caledd The Murphy Cup not the Tuohy Cup which is a Limerick City Cup.
Rathkeale are 50 years in existance this year.
I dont think any desmond league team would have played in any of those competitions.

BIT OF HELP PLEASE
Note from viewing Tralee Dynamoes thread, they have a team photo from 1968, titled Desmond League Tuohy Cup winners.
Was this a knock-out cup or the trophy for the then league winners. Aware the league website does have a detailed honours board from the early 1970's, but the prior period dating back to the league formation is undocumented. As the league history states league commenced mid 60's. Known that Tralee possibly Killarney participated in Desmond prior to establishment of Kerry League in 1971.
Can only assume that any Desmond clubs in existance (Askeaton, Adare NWCTWest) prior to commencement of Desmond League would have participated in the Limerick league, would anyone know of any successes in the Limerick league ? eg Prem League , Lawson Cup winners.etc

The founding teams were Askeaton, Killonan, Newcastlewest and Tralee Dynamos. In 1971 the clubs from Kerry left the the Desmond League to form the Kerry League however as new clubs emerged in the Desmond catchment area the League expanded to four separate divisions. These four teams contested the first league championship which was won by Killonan. The Munster Football Association presented the league with a junior challenge cup. The first winners were Newcastle. The original management committee comprised the following:
[SIZE=2]Liam McKenna, J.P Walsh, Joe Downes, Jack O'Rourke, John E. Barrett, Sean Fitzgerald, Ed. Moloney and Michael Mulcair.

Newcastlwest and Foynes played in the Limerick league for a few years as I can recall

Does anyone agree that the standard of the Desmond league has deteriorated greatly over the last few seasons?
lets face it shannonside who are leading the premier are a fairly average team with less than average players...........is this team really going to represent us well in the munster senior if they win?????????????

All junior teams are gone from the Munster Senior cup now they have formed another cup just for Junior teams.

Yes the standard is slipping and with the ammount of lads who have left and are planning on leaving for Australia doesn't help but I suppose every league is having this problem. The youths league is a shambles and doesn't look good for the future teams giving walkovers week in week out makes the future look bleek.......

if your saying that shannonside are a very average team then what are you saying about all the teams below them .remember they are unbeaten this year in league and desmond cup so they cant be that bad.
any one got any idea whats the story with league cup ,games are starting to bad up a bit, they should run it off during the week in clonreask pitch, its wasted there not playing any games on it.if they had a couple games there during the week t wouldnt take long to run it off for all divisions

Glin Rovers 1-0 Newcastlewest

Went to see this game as a neutral and to be honest thaught Newcastle should have won it only for some very poor refereeing, dont like to be hitting on the refs again but he was very poor should have allowed advantage to newcastle when the ball was at Powers feet and he scored only for the referee to bring the ball back for a free kick instead he should have played advantage. Some of his decisions throughout the game were baffaling...

Newcastle had plenty of chances but nothing really clear cut. The Glin Keeper was solid throughout. Glin scored from a counter attacking move and the ball was played to Kinsella who finished with a great shot to the far corner. Glin were reduced to 10 men mid waythrough the second half for a tackle. Newcastle had a few late chances and one of them was fired over from close range. Its Very though place to go and get a result the pitch is terrible full credit to Glin really have turned there season around and will probably take more points off the top teams

The 3 teams imediatly above Rathkeale picked up 7 points today while Rathkeale were away on Desmond cup duty. Serious times for the reigning champions.

Where in Askeaton in relation to the main road going from Limerick to Tralee through the town, is the Askeaton ground ?

Every club loses players. Plus they have a B team so it cant be lack of players. It would be a massive shock for them to go down but they seem to be in big trouble with all the teams around them picking up points.

The ref was a disgrace..worst iv ever seen him in a match. I'd say he knew from the start that he was gonna mess with Newcastle west and give them nothing..scored 2 goals that weren't allowed for offside... Newcastle won a free kick which was crossed in and ncw player buried it with a bullet of a header but given offside.ref turned around and told the player that he was on side but thought the ball was going to another ncw player so he blew the whistle..in all fairness like..his decisions on the day were unreal..glin goal came from a player who was at least 4 yards offside..only thing he did get right was the red card on glin player for a very high tackle..someone said a ref could have ruined shannonside te title for giving a penalty to glin for nothing..looks like another ref has ruined ncw chances also

Lads get over the whole ref thing, no ref wants to screw a team over, what do they have to gain from it. Maybe players and managers should have a good look at themselves and the level of abuse they give during games, I agree the refs are rubbish, but every1 should also remember that both players and managers in Desmond League are also rubbish. If anyone was any good, then the wouldnt be playing in Desmond league because they would be in England, refs included. If players are going to start comparing Desmond League refs with Howard Webb then they should be consistent and compare themselves to Stephen Gerrard

Well said Leon. A lot of fellas have been giving out and getting personal about referees on this site and on their facebook pages too. Ive been on the wrong side of referees decisions but ive also been on the right side of decisions so i think it evens itself out over the years. You have to remember that these referees are human too and have wives and families and some have young children as well. If the guys who are giving out made half the mistakes that they do in a match they would still have made more than the ref. Also is it just me or does it always seem to be the same players from the same clubs who slate the refs? They dont seem to be doing their clubs any favours

Well if Killeaney were the better team against Askeaton ive heard it all now, Askeaton had as much if not more chances, it was a good tough game played in good spirits and a draw the fairest result.

Speaking of rubbish managers Clearly, the reason I watch JUNIOR soccer is because I'm not exactly living next door to Anfield am I? I take it so that you condone abusing referee's.

I happen to agree with you (for the 1st time in my life) re: the abuse referees get, but I just dont understand why you bother when you think as you said on your post you rekon players, managers and referees alike are all rubbish! I just wouldnt watch...
