I really can't believe this is the same lazy, unfit and overweight Paul Byrne I saw at Sporting Fingal, Bray and towards the end of his UCD spell receiving such rave reviews, he looked a mess destined for junior football over the past 3 years
Mahon must have given him some kick up the hole at Pats
His knee was in bits for most of that time, to be fair. This is the first decent few months of fully fit football he's got behind him in years.

I've been criticial of Bolger before (great technique not always matched by concentration), but he thoroughly deserves his place in the squad. A revelation for us this season.

Yep, standout player for UCD in game V Bohs at Belfield (before silly red card). Bolger has impresed me in any other bits I have sen of UCD this season.
Appreciate its a game of differing opinions but by and large would be happy enough with Doolins squad

Anyone know the XI tonight?
Or even the score or how the match is going!
Seniors were 1-0 up when I left just before half time, keepers fault.
Stokes got the goal for the Oirish. Finished 1-0. Good result for the U23's.

I thought Stokes was due to start on the bench, or did he come on early?

I was at the game.Dissapointing performance from the Ireland u23's.Passing was poor, free kicks, corners all underhit or overhit.
Seemed over anxious. The English players were a lot taller than the Irish, none of them were smaller than 5'10.I'm sure when they
saw little Gary Mc Cabe coming on as a sub they were quaking in their boots.
We had a chance to get an equaliser at the end when little Padraig Amond broke through all he had to do was square it
to little Paddy Madden but chose to go for glory and missed.

Great win.
Anybody know the stats from the other groups.
I think we need Portugal to beat Northern Ireland and the other group to work out as well to qualify. Any links to tables etc?
Note I realise a 2-1 win for Estonia in England will also eliminate us.
Its as is if this tournament doesn't exist. There's literally no mention of it anywhere. Does it even have a name?

Isn't it just the Challenge Tournament or something as bland?
Edit - it's the International Challenge Trophy. No dead link even on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_C_national_football_team).

OK I have some results
Portugal have hammered wales and drawn with poland. poland have lost to Northern Ireland and beaten Wales.
I make it
Portugal 2 4
NI 2 4
Poland 3 4
Wales 3 1
If there is a winner in Portugal v NI then we are OK.
Other group is more of an issue
Belgium have won both games v Romania and Malta. Italy have drawn with Romania and beaten Malta.
Belgium 2 6
Italy 2 4
We need Belgium to beat Italy in Brescia in November - probably a big ask as a draw (or an Italian win) probably sends both team through.
My understanding is that the best runner up is decided on average points per game so we have 1.5 so Italy need to get to 5 points
to pip us eg 1.666

What players do the north and the welsh pick for their teams?
Is it domestic u23's as well?

I think it is domestic U23s in both cases.
Italy use Seria C, England the conference and Belgium use domestic U20s I believe. Estonia had full Internationals in their squad for Tuesday night.

Portugal beat Northern Ireland 2-0. This means Portugal are through and NI are out.
We need Belgium to beat Italy in Brescia next month and we qualify as best runner up. Any other result (draw or Italy win) will see
Belgium and Italy through.

If a draw is good enough for both teams you can be sure that'll be the result (especially with Italy involved!).
