So what you are telling me is that when the indo says MAY HAVE TO , you read it as ARE TRYING TO OFFLOAD HIM ?

So what you are telling me is that when the indo says MAY HAVE TO , you read it as ARE TRYING TO OFFLOAD HIM ?

its absolutely what I read into it. Clubs do it al the time. Saying something like "we haven't had any firm offers yet" is basically saying "please, someone make us an offer!!!"

Fingal aren't the first club to do it

The Lep
03/11/2010, 2:13 PM
Maybe so Dodge but its not what is being said is it. The Indo suggested that Fingal may have to sell Williams rather than Fingal saying that they are selling him.

Dodge
03/11/2010, 2:16 PM
Well it isn't spelt out, but there you go. We'll find out soon enough if I read it correctly or not

The Lep
03/11/2010, 2:22 PM
Its the same with anything in the papers Dodge, you can read it and come up wth your own thoughts on it regardless of whats printed. In this case, one jurno saying that THEY MAY HAVE TO just means thats his view only.

I agree, we will find out soon enough .

Dodge

You're either naive (which you're not) or disingenious if you believe that journalists only give either direct quotes or their own opinion. Most stories are leaked and written in that vague "may happen" BS prose

The Lep
03/11/2010, 2:45 PM
Jurnos always put their own spin on their articles just for effect. How many times have there been posts on the board during the season about the media not reporting on league matters accurately ? Im not saying that Fingal wont try and get rid of players under contract but just saying that at the moment the indo journo is only putting his own spin on it rather than saying that Fingal ARE trying to get rid of Williams.
Its like if a paper suggests that a club MAY have to go part time next year, it doesnt mean that club has said that its going part time.
People believe what they want to believe and sometime read between the lines.

We are waiting...
Hopped in here thinking that you were making the fabled announcement.
Ah well... we live in hope.
But seriously, b2bw, ye do play a variety of attractive football, but give over your talk, you make it sound like Arsenal are playing in Morton.

The closest thing to Arsenal we've got.

The impending implosion of Fingal is being discussed on Newstalk just now.

Apparently Roddy Collins thinks their prospects are "dire".

"No fans", he says.

What's the craic with Tolka Park anyway??

There was talk earlier in the year that Shels mightn't even be in there next year and now there might be two teams in there??

Now that Roderik reckons they're doomed is it safe to assume they're pretty safe??

Did you get that from the minister of the bleedin obvious? :) The same goes for every club and also every business hence why a lot of people have lost their jobs recently.

Sporting Fingal will be around for a long time yet so dont get too worked up over it :)

lessons on business administration from a Limerick fan?!?!?!:p

As a mere Limerick fan I had no hand or part in some of the financial nonsense that went on in the recent past.*

We'd have to have had some members club style set up and consistently voted for some of the nonsense to be able to take our fair share of the blame.

*Just to clarify the club is being superbly run at the moment. Also sorry for the three posts mods, merge or whatever if you wish.

Extreme zimmerframing. This could be the hook that takes the LOI to the next level.

You're waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too positive. There's a stench of FF and that "sound fundamentals" spiel.
Positivity is not what LOI supporting is all about. Where's your pessimism and fear for the future?
We were right Forting Spingal aren't right for the LOI.

Though to be honest I'm worried you're right.

Too be honest, many other clubs are funded by their fans.

Its the fans who keep the club alive when any easy money that came the club's way dries up.

On a more serious and important and life changing note, the caramel squares in Roses are no longer square and they've been elongated into rectangles. I was not a happy bunny on that discovery.

Ah ha, but maybe you wont be in europe, remember its the FAI who will be nominating the clubs that can particpate and this will depend on 2011 Licences.

Pats will be next in line then to take their place in Europe if they do run into serious trouble, pity we didn't finish 5th again :curse:

So childish! No Smiley for that.

True, but its still classed as funding .
Yes but if one fan stops supporting the club, the likelyhood is that the well supported clubs won't go bankrupt. But if Gerry Gannon pulls out (or is rightfully forced to stop funding the club with money that shouldn't be in his pocket), then Fingal will drastically have to cut back or go very quickly go bust. Fingals success has been artifical, they have achieved what they have by using tax payers money.

For what its worth I have great respect for fans like Lampers and the Lep who go against the grain in a way and obviously love their club. I have had digs at Fingal in the past as I feel they bought their success as opposed to earning it. I sincerely hope they manage to stay afloat and their growth in the future is organic, through increasing their fan base. they play great football and have a decent skin at the helm in Liam Buckley. Best of luck to them and hopefully they manage to keep the show on the road.

One of the country's leading construction companies, Pierse Construction, has asked the Commercial Court to appoint a liquidator.

Lawyers for the company said the position had 'materially disimproved' since an interim examiner was appointed last month, and the company no longer wished to proceed with the examinership process.

It appears that bad debts from the benefactor of Sporting Fingal has brought down one the the country's biggest construction companies.

Personally I hope you are wrong.

I havnt been able to post lately due to problems with the computer. Probably a good thing.
I have to say that if selling these players and letting others go means the club can keep to what looks like being a smaller budget then thats fine by me. Its probably time we started to focus more on the club itself rather than big signings.
Iv loved every minute of the last 3 seasons including bringing in these players but at the end of the day, all i care about is the future of the club. Nothing else.

There's no need to be so defensive. I appreciate the temptation to be in denial. However, any news relating to someone who has subsidised a club to the tune of at least €1.5m is relevent.

Perhaps you prefer I quote from this article:

[Pierce] which employed 700 people at its peak but now has 211 workers, cited the economic downturn and cashflow difficulties caused by bad debts of about €30 million on completed works as the reasons why it has sought the protection of the courts. Counsel said €16m of those bad debts were owed by Gannon Homes for works carried out at the new town centre at Clongriffin in Dublin

You're not following the thread closely.

Gannon (your benefactor) was quoted in court when Pierce sought an examinership. However, Pierce told the court today that they can't save their business and all the jobs are lost. The fact that Gannon was not quoted in this article is not relevent as he had been mentioned in the earlier application. The article you take exception to is relevent as it is an update to the earlier action.

This is relevent to Sporting Fingal as Gannon pumped a lot of money into your club:

2008: €500,000
2009: €750,000
2010: ?

It could only be considered "derailing" by a person incapable of joining up the dots.

Yes, you've very good at connecting dots. Unfortunately, these are dots best joined in another forum.
