From yesterday's Fingal Independent (http://www.fingal-independent.ie/premium/sport/gaelic-football/sponsor-talks-on-hold-as-fingal-return-to-training-2500755.html) -
Anyone with a subscription able to reveal more?
I heard the exact opposite from a very, very inside source. Somebody has an axe to grind, a former GM anybody?

Is this the same source who told you Cowan would resign on Monday?

No, he'd be gone, never said from where though :-)
But I called it almost right, my buddy working as a FG assistant in the Dail said that there'd be a vote of confidence within FF, which was right, but she thought he'd go. I just hoped he would.
I think this "leak" from SF bears closer scrutiny, especially if it's who's been named previously. Sad if it is.

I know this is the 27th time its been speculated but there was speculation last night that this time it may be the end for Fingal this week? The word is the new financial backing to replace Gannon hasn't materialised

that was the exact reason why Alan Kirby only signed for Sligo Rovers last week. He was awaitin this offer from fingal once the backing went thro. He got tired of them and went to sligo instead.

There's alot of contradictory speculation out there because I've read this week on forums about the likes of Boco and Oman definitely signing for them. Kirby's situation would fit in with the uncertainty Fingal have had with their supposed new finance over the last 2 weeks

It is strange to say the least. The signings of Greg Bolger and re-signing of Gary O'Neill indicates, at a minimum, that Liam Buckley and these two players believe that funds will be in place. Considering that Buckley spoke to just about very decent available player in the league, along with the absense of other signings to date - indicate that this funding is far from certain. The fact that the Shaun Williams transfer has not materialised to give a cash injection is another worrying sign if these doubts prove true.
With Setanta Cup looming in a fortnight for Fingal, Buckley would surely be very anxious to complete his squad.
One effect of his "offers" to players is the wage inflation created by demand for players, or perhaps inertia by other clubs and players waiting to see what happens.
The worst of all possible worlds is that Fingal do a "Bohs" and offer big contracts based on hope rather then expectation of income

Have you any sources for these at all? Cos otherwise it's just unsubstantiated allegations.

Also, back kind of on topic, what sort of squad have Fingal got at the moment (total numbers-wise)?

Kirby lives in Longford, as far as i know, so playing for us made travelling easier.
For what it's worth I've heard they won't make the season.
Only yesterday they announced a new Commercial manager so its a quick turnaround
Trying to get it confirmed now. Have they friendlier lined up? Any soon that may need cancelling!

False alarm maybe?

It would p**s me off if Fingal got players like Bolger and couldn't afford to pay them because it makes the competition unfair and in a way its cheating as it was well documented that Foster wanted to sign him and couldn't because Fingal could offer a better contract.

Sounds like they're going to have a much lower budget than they hoped for, at the very least.

They were due to play Parkvilla yesterday, and they pulled out of it.
They've no money

Sporting Fingal has been seeking to restructure over recent months ahead of the 2011 campaign.
It had developed what it believed to be a viable business plan on a reduced and prudent scale having secured new investors and some sponsors. A number of commitments which would be crucial to its viability have, in very recent days, not materialised.
The club has regretfully, for the first time since it’s inception in 2007, not been in a position to pay players’ wages at this point and are urgently attempting to resolve the issue.
The FAI and the players’ union, PFAI, have been informed of the situation.

Sounds ominous.

And they were paying transfer fees for players last month? Ridiculous situation.

That sounds like it's going to be fatal for them alright. This supposed funding was being questioned by just about everybody so not surprised it's fallen through. As Macy points out it could have implications for Bohs too with the potential income from rent lost.
Never nice to see a club in a position like this but it's not like Fingal weren't warned of the dangers of their model. The concept had some potential as a community venture but it was *******ised into something very different.
Would hope that maybe they can survive just to prevent yet another reshuffle of the league.

Nah; isn't it Bohs and Fingal to be replaced by Dundalk and Pat's in the worst case?

This situation just shows the stupidity still involved in the LOI, relying on "backers" and "investors" to run a club has never and will never work in the LOI unless there is a firm fan base and a steady flow of income into a club, yet another club to go bust due to stupidity!!!

Look on the bright side; if Fingal are gone, it's the last of the big spenders gone. The league had to reach this position.

right so whats gonna happen to the league if fingal cant sort out there mess???? monaghan or drogs to be promoted? 11 team first division???

Drogs don't have a squad either and no word from them on how their critical fund raising efforts ended up so Monaghan would seem the most likely candidates to go up?

Waaaay too much logic in your thinking there dude.
Surely "Merger" with Shels (or Bohs) now on the cards ...
Fingal name, crest and colours droped ...
Shels back into premier / or Bohs get new mgr and a few players ...
Bucko saves face and Lusk plans survice to fight another day with Shels or Bohs as anchors ...
Win win for either especially Shels if you ask me ...

No sympathy for them what so ever, they where out bidding clubs for players even when there main backer pulled out and by the looks of it they where gambling on getting a new sponsor/backer in times when the bigger clubs in the league with much fan bases and histories are struggling for sponsorship. Hate to see a club go bust but this was writing on the wall months ago, all of us could see it. Personally I think Fingal add nothing to the league and went about there business all wrong. When they had money they should of putting into developing the club in a much more sustainable manner, instead they spent big and now are found wanting.

In fairness to them, I don't think they can be accused of ignoring the promotional role altogether - they were out and about in the community, had a CPO and did promos to get people to games (pay what you want at the UCD game last season for example). They just spent money like idiots.

Dundalk should do this every year. Don't spend a lot on wages, finish two places off European qualification, watch two clubs go bust and then qualify for Europe!

It was inevitable that it was going to end in tears as they were nothing more than a now formerly rich developer's plaything. The League will be better off without them and their squeaky voiced 13 year old delusional fan(s).

How and why did they give Gary O'Neill a 2 year contract - unheard of now in the LoI - if they even had an inkling that they might have to restructure?

Drogs playing Pats in a friendly on Saturday.
Waterford & Monaghan are first in line to replace Franchise & Bohs in the Premier Division.

They also agreed to pay a fee to UCD for Bolger. Only yesterday they announced a new commercial manager (Pats old one)

Current LOI player who has been previously a teamate of some Fingal players. I was informed they would be wound up by Friday but I guess the FAI have to told them to release today's statement in order for a last throw of the dice to lure somebody with enough disposable cash to save them, the FAI are already up to their neck crapping themselves about Bohs and Drogheda and Fingal going bust would permanently destroy whatever credibility they have left. They play Lisburn Distillery on Feb 14, so their participation in the Setanta will have to come to a head in the next 7 days. They could pull out of that competition now to buy a little more time until the end of the month to source another backer with the FAI's help this time.
I don't know whether the new backing was a solid lock or not, the indications was that it was so maybe Fingal have been screwed over here but either way to outbid Dundalk for Bolger, Shams for O'Neill, promise Bohs rent and appoint a commerical manager without the funds lodged into your bank account is a f-n disgrace

I hope the hell we got a draft for Greg. And then give him all our Setanta Cup prize money to play for us this season. :)

Wut? How is this the FAI's fault? Why would SF going belly up particularly damage them?
