Is it possible to change the skin and are there no more 'thanks' posts?

dahamsta

I'll be installing a Foot.ie skin in a day or two. I'll reintegrate the Thanks thing as soon as I can.

is there a list of the changes anywhere? I noticed the thread URLs are using a different style now
also, clicking on the "new posts" link for a thread brings you to the last page of the thread, not the post added since you last read the thread

dahamsta

There isn't a list of changes, no. Generally, the big change is the addition of the Content Management System, from where we'll be running our blog/news, and full integration of the blogs.

Forum functionality should be generally the same, but yeah, there are a few annoyances like that. The colours are crap too, but I'm working to rectify that.

I'll file a bug report about the threads issue if one hasn't been filed already.

Now I come to think of it, this is as good a place as any to create a list of what IS new.

Any chance of getting the forum to be shown in a different column when doing a new posts search?

dahamsta
01/02/2010, 11:59 AM
Not out of the box endabob1, no. I'll add it to the laundry list of things to look at.

a minor annoyance, but the url for the forums has changed from foot.ie/forums to foot.ie/forum so now my bookmarks are all wrong!
will this be changed back, or should I just update my bookmarks?

dahamsta
01/02/2010, 12:09 PM
Because vb has a content management system now, and we don't need a separate blog, I moved the whole thing down to root so the URLs would be shorter. So you'll have to update your bookmarks, sorry! ;)

All links to threads in posts from before the update don't work anymore either.

All links to threads in posts from before the update don't work anymore either.

Yeah was just looking at that on the December POTM voting thread, each link brings you to the forum rather than the part of the thread concerned. Which is not a bad thing for most of them in fairness. :)

dahamsta
01/02/2010, 12:23 PM
They wouldn't have worked anyway lads, sorry. The URLs have changed to improve search engine access. Such is the price of progress!

dahamsta

also, clicking on the "new posts" link for a thread brings you to the last page of the thread, not the post added since you last read the threadOk, this is a known bug that'll be fixed in the next minor update, in just a few days time.

Just letting you know there's ads showing on mine at the moment Adam, I presume it's the same for other members.

Where is the 'jump to'?

Don't like it it is harder to navigate.I'd agree with some criticisms, but not that. It's exactly the same.

Where is the 'jump to'?In exactly the same place! CTRL+F "Quick Navigation"

I don't know if this is a site thing or my computer maybe but I can't see a lot of the avatars. I can see some people's including my own, mostly those who are members I think. Not a big deal just curious as to what the story is.

My search new posts (and exclude the feeds thing) won't work. No, no feeds turned up in first search but no doub t they're lurking...

I'll miss the jump to forum scroll navigation thingy too

(Sorry for blinding people with technical terms like thingy in this post...)

Only major gripe I have is with the colour scheme as it kinda makes me want to stick my face in a fire to hopefully stop me from taking a carving knife to my wrists but you've already pointed this out yourself so carry on :)

I think the post_new should be a brighter colour, very hard to distinguish between posts you read and have not read.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but images aren't showing up in mine. Avatars are grand, but in thread images aren't there.

Avatars are grand, but in thread images aren't there.Actually avatars for non-members/moderators weren't showing up, but they're back now. Can you give me an example of images not showing up in threads please? (Is it attachments, images from remote locations, etc?)

Sam Heggy's post at the end. I can see his Avatar but his two images aren't working. No wee 'X' or anything, just nothing.

"The following posts have not been updated since your last visit" - that was a handy extra on the New Posts bit which I think is gone now.

Also, the smileys all look exactly the same now. Even on the old version, they were colour coded, which was handy.

dahamsta
02/02/2010, 10:14 AM
That's because he's tried to embed images from Facebook. I've updated the post to just link to them, but even that's not working. Wonky copy and paste I reckon.

It might be related to the go to new posts problem mentioned earlier but the View First Unread link at the top of a thread doesn't work if the first unread post is by someone on your ignore list or if it's been deleted.

dahamsta
02/02/2010, 2:08 PM
I'd guess that's hard to prevent, as it would require more sql queries at load time.

Schumi
02/02/2010, 2:15 PM
It worked before the update, certainly with someone on your ignore list.

pineapple stu
03/02/2010, 9:55 AM
Couple of other random things I've noticed -

The New Post search now doesn't distinguish between threads you've posted in and threads you've ignored. That was very handy.

The main forum index page doesn't seem to have the option of double clicking the icon beside the forum name to mark all threads as read.

Maybe I'm just missing something, in which case, let me know.

Schumi
03/02/2010, 11:13 AM
I have a little green arrow on the icon of threads I've posted in. The double click works for me too.

pineapple stu
03/02/2010, 11:47 AM
I have that green arrow in the forums themselves, but not on the new posts search.

I don't have icons on the main screen. Maybe a refresh is needed.

dahamsta
03/02/2010, 12:58 PM
Yeah, both work for me too.

John83
03/02/2010, 6:22 PM
The search function only works for threads since the update.

dahamsta
03/02/2010, 6:26 PM
Yeah I noticed that, I had to interrupt the indexing because it was taking forever, however I didn't realise it was that bad. I'll try a reindex tonight when ye've all gone to bed. :)

BTW, the 4.0.2 update has been postponed, for about a week. At least one issue in this thread is fixed by it though, when it comes.

Can't delete posts for some reason...

I can't see the last post on ANY thread. I can see the user name and sigs, but no message body. Random other posts are also missing, including the first post in this thread. Massively frustrating.

Edit to say that now I can see pauro's post, but not my own in this thread. Odd.

Refresh did no good for me, and I also can't click on any of the subforums. All very annoying!

Is there a recommended browser for this upgrade?

passinginterest
04/02/2010, 9:10 AM
I've definitely got the same issues as Stu using very old Internet Explorer in work. Not sure if it's the same on other browsers at home as I didn't get on last night.

dahamsta

Can you try a hard refresh stu? (CTRL+5 on Windows)

I think part of the reason they held back 4.0.2 was to fix IE bugs.

pineapple stu
04/02/2010, 10:51 AM
CTRL+5 just selected all.

CTRL+F5 did seem to refresh, but it's changed nothing. I'm on IE7 by necessity unfortunately.

passinginterest
04/02/2010, 10:58 AM
I've done that ctrl F5 thing and it will show that I have posted in threads if I go into the individual forum but if I just hit new posts or what's new they don't show. I'm on IE 5 or 6 that should have been replaced long ago in work.

If this is not in relation to the post missing problem I mentioned, apologies.

Hard refresh does nothing for me. I'm using Google Chrome. First and last messages on almost every page are missing.

Bizarre. Leave it with me lads, I'll have a look at it with a few different browsers tomorrow when I'm back in Cork.

Thanks for the feedback by the way, keep it coming.

If I click on go to first new post on a thread it brings me to the last page in the thread as opposed to the first new post and my own posts don't appear in new posts when I post them.

EDIT-I had a look and this doesn't appear to be there in new posts.

I keep getting automatically logged out. It's damn annoying!

On Google Chrome 5.0.307.1 dev, Mac.

It's seems to have settled a bit now...a whole 4 hours without it logging itself out! Whoo!

Maybe it has already been mentioned, but clicking on the "go to first unread post" and "go to last post" buttons send me all over the place - occasionally to the last post, but more often to the top of the last page, or even to the top of the second-last page.

It seems to bring me to the top of the page that the last unread post was on.
