Did the dirt on you by moving to Longford for a pittance?

Thought your no 7 last night (JP something) looked a good footballer. Centrehalves knew what they were doing too.

Happy enough with our performance. Early days but lots of optimism about (for a change)

A few out of the crowd were thrown out (some were stopped going in too). Disgraceful carry on from a few drunk teens.

our no 7 dodge is John Paul McDonagh we signed him from Newbridge Town where Tony Cousins younger brother Andy is manager there..hes a good footballer he should have being in loi sooner only for McDonagh wanting to stay as he has a good job workin at god know what? A Kildare Co fan posted on our forum that a lot of the clubs were after Mcdonagh before so we are delighted we have him now..

I heard from a Boardroom member that Freeman was joining one minute and not the next and then he was joining again!! Apparently he kept changing his mind so maybe Cousins got tired of been messed around and told him he wasn't interested in signing him anymore. What positions do the two lads from Athlone play in? I could be wrong but is O'Reilly a striker?

Dead right from Cosuins if that's the case. Freeman was probably holding out for a better offer, I wouldn't think he'll be inundated with them however. Wouldn't be at all bothered if he wasn't around, frees up space for another player.

Theres a good mix of young and experienced players in the squad, I never read to much into pre season hopefully we get a good start to season and we will start to see how we are shaping up then

Just checked out the Athlone Town website and Niall O'Reilly is down as been a right back. It must of been Noel McGee I was thinking of!!

Lost 4-1. We were pretty competitive for most of the game just gave away some stupid goals. We used 19 players in all so there was a bit of a disjointed look to them in the second half in defence but they were trying to play decent football and could have had a couple more goals. Glynn got our goal which made it 1-1. The only trialists were a lad called Darren Forthy (that's how it was spelt on the team sheet anyway) and Niall O'Reilly.Ian Byrne was there too but Im guessing he must be signed at this stage given he's been playing in all of our games. Cork had a strong first eleven including George O'Callaghan and Kudozivic, Greg O'Halloran and Dave Rogers. Don't know who scored for them but I think Kudozivic may have got at least one. They only had three subs including a Liam Collins who is probably a relation of Roddy's.

with the lack of a stadium announcer it was very hard to fathom who was playing..To the best of my knowledge the first team were:
shanahan, tyrell,k cronin, deans,p byrne, lester, brady, mooney, hynes, glynn, mcdonagh subs: Ian Byrne,Conlon,Justin Perrin,Clarke, darren forthy(assume the big tall fellow up front for us wonder is it Darren Forsyth Niall O'Reilly.. Didnt see Darren Forthy on the teamsheet though?

Daisy took his goal very well.. I was talkin to Mickey Lee at the game and he confirmed to me that hes making a comeback next weekend against UCD... I get the impression with him that he wasnt going to comeback so soon but he must have his travel arrangments sorted for goin to Leixlip... I was delighted Justin made his senior debut in flansiro.. thought he played well when he came on.. Conlon was diabolical yet again when he came on as sub and was to blame for at least one of their goals..

The sporting fingal game isnt finalised as of yet for next weekend as fingal are waiting on FAI approval to host the match...

Longfordian
14/02/2010, 6:38 PM
Yeah he was wearing 14 when he came on. Could well be Forsyth spelt wrong alright but it's definitely spelt Forthy on the team sheet, I took a photo of it for reference purposes. Team according to the team sheet was Shanahan, Hyland, K Cronin, Tyrell, Philip Byrne, Lester. Brady, Mooney, Hynes, Glynn, McDonagh .Subs were Ian Byrne, Darren ?, Niall O'Reilly, Conlon, Deans, McArdle, Perrin, Clarke.

To add to more confusion on the Freeman saga I was talking to another lad at the game Sat and he said Freeman has definitely signed but has been out of action the past week or so with a cracked rib!!! So it all remains to be seen!!!

Have to agree with you Martinho. If Shanahan gets injured or suspended during the league we might as well hand the opposition the points or at least do what we did in Kildare 2 seasons ago and put one of our outfield players in goals!!! That third goal Cork got was hilarious!!! He would of got it only he pulled out of the tackle!!! Seriously he can't be that bad can he?!!!! He could just be letting on he's the worst keeper we've had since Kevin 'Bobo the Clown' McCormack and be an absolute legend with the club for years to come!!! Sorry lads wasn't in the country at start of last season to compare him to Brendan Murphy.

Was there many there?

No one from Cork at it from what I seen. Would of been between 50-100 people at it. Probably closer to the 50 mark from where I was standing!!

[QUOTE=Martinho II;1319779]darren forthy(assume the big tall fellow up front for us wonder is it Darren Forsyth Niall O'Reilly.. Didnt see Darren Forthy on the teamsheet though?
If its a tall floppy haired dark headed bloke it has to be Forsyth, he recently released by Gateshead, he is utterly horrific with the ball at his feet but good in the air on the end of crosses

.

forgot to mention that I heard that too about Freeman..So the only person that I was out was Thomas Hyland for Chris Deans... You couldnt miss Deansy when he came on he was givin Dean Clarke awful grief in defence... I dont think I would agree with that sort of carryon...

in other news Mark Sammon who played for us against Pats played for Bray in preseason over the weekend.Ex town player Gary Curran played for Galway Utd up in the Brandywell.

Ya im after hearing that,Whys it changed? That keeper we brought on against Cork Is useless. he needs to be got rid of, or else get his eyes checked and learn when to swing his leg when hes kicking the ball. Thats the second time thats happened. i know it only pre season but it not good enough!!

were playing sporting fingal saturday in leinster senior cup id imagine thats why its changed, id give conlon a bit of time he is still young and never played at this level before. Cronin didnt help him against cork with ths ridiculosly poor back pass

It's better to have a few days between the games anyway for the players sake as much as anything else. Less chance of injuries.

I am surprised nothing has being mentioned on our forum but a big well done to our club for getting the Premier Division licence.. Its a step in the right direction.. It has being a top class job by the exeutive committee and I would like to congratulate them on their feat as its not an easy thing to achieve these days so well done all!:D

Dunno about that Marty, Cork are doing their damndest not to get a Premier Licence but their manful efforts in that regard will probably come to nothing before they're saddled with one...

True not the easiest for a club they don't care about to achieve might be more accurate!. Well done to all involved though I know it takes a fair bit of work at licensing time and throughout the year to keep things on track. And a fair bit of crap to be listened to from those in Abbotstown who continually miss/ignore the big problems in the league.

at the supporters club agm last nite I got a list of the squad so far for 2010 and their last club plus their playing postion:

Philip Byrne Sporting fingal defender
Derek Tyrrell Mount merrion midfield
Stephen Conlon Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper
Thomas Hyland ditto striker
Craig Mooney Kildare Co
Gary Cronin Bray left full
john Lester St Pats midfield/defender
chris deans bray midfield

the eldest statesmen of the team this year are: Cronin and Freeman who are over 30. the babies are: mick lee and stefan mullins.. how i know is that I have got their dobs as well..

Signings rather than squad? You've left out K Cronin, Shanahan, Glynn and Lee if it's the latter.

Martinho, Chris Deans Midfield your having a laugh, he could n't spell midfield let alone play there, not a bad centre back though end of....

Longfordian

Yeah he's a centre back, that's where he's played all pre-season games. Hyland is a midfielder/defender as well I believe not a striker.

Ryan McEvoy must be on loan from Bohs : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_McEvoy

its not confirmed as of yet that Ryan McEvoy has signed on loan.. But with the potential signing of Aaron Greene from Galway Utd for them hollocaine it will free space for mcevoy to go on loan thats what one paper said today but it didnt mention us as being linked with him.. It will be good news if both him and Forsyth join us on loan.. I was pretty impressed with Forsyth when he came on he caused the UCD defence a lot of grief...

Longfordian
18/02/2010, 4:41 PM
Forsyth isn't contracted to anyone is he?. I wasn't hugely impressed with him personally, he's pretty slow and awkward. A handful in the air though alright. McEvoy looked a good player.

LTFC away to Sporting Fingal
Today, 12:54PM

Longford Town will play their first competetive match this Saturday against 2009 FAI Cup winners Sporting Fingal. Kick off is at 2:30pm at the NDSL Oscar Traynor Complex, Oscar Traynor Road, Coolock, Dublin. Take the M1 exit off the M50, head toward Dublin, take the Coolock exit which leads directly onto the Oscar Traynor Road

its sayin now that the game has switched.. did anyone hear that news at all?

Must not be. He was a decent footballer but he's a bit small and weak. Mark Sammon played for us again for those that weren't there, he did pretty well. Alan Mathews was there last night apparently and he was recommending Sammon. There's still a possibility of Don Cowan coming in from Rovers as well I believe depending on if they sign another striker or not. I would think two or three more signings will complete the initial squad.
