Im delighted to announce Chris Turner is training in Strandhill with Rvs this morning. Along with Jay McCartney a new striker from Liverpool. No Butler or Ryan... About 15 training in total. Training very hard in bad conditions but great facilities at Strand Celtics ground!

Great news if it is the case! It baffles me why he would go to Galway, even considering his love thing for Sean Connor going on.

. Along with Jay McCartney !
I thought he'd agreed to play with Longford next season? Could be only keeping fit.

I now understand turners stance is that he wants out and is only going to play with us if Rvs & Shams cant agree a deal. I believe Rvs want 20k for him and Shams arent willing to pay it so make what you can of that... Galway not in the picture at all...

They can f off back to their slums in Tallaght so. Turner's worth at least 80k. If he was playing in England he's be going for around the 80/100k amount.
If Turner doesn't want to play for us, no point in having him, ala Faz,Raf.

It's possible that Humpty is the only manager Turner can play for. It's hard to believe that Pat Fenlon, who has forgotten more about coaching that Steve Bruce's love child will ever know, dumped him sharpish and that he couldn't hack it in Scotland for two clubs. We'll see. I still think, with Deegan gone, that he's the best midfielder in the league.

I presume its the Jason Mc Cartney that was here before?...if so he's not worth signing even as a squad or back up player IMO...dont mean to be harsh but defo not a Prem Division player...ive seen him in action for both Longford and Athlone in the first Divsion and hardly made any impact in that division.

Everyone is aware of the rumours that have been flying around about Turner for some weeks and its about time that an official clarification should be issued so that the long suffering supporters would know one way or another what the actual position is. Personally I hope he settles in with us as he is quality and most exceptional players tend to have a little baggage.

Why would we pay 20k? If there is a problem with the contract I presume he is not your player and any other club could get him for nothing.

The thing is, as I understand it, he IS our player as he has signed a 2 year contract. How could any club get him for nothing?

Your right. It's only been media speculation that the situation is anyway different. if there was a problem with turners contract he wouldnt be training with us, and from what i've read here he's turning up to train. I dont believe Cook with stand for bringing a player in with some half baked clause in it. pparently he turned down shams before signing for us so why would he want out now. I'm biased but i think the best thing turner could do is to play with us and have a good settled 2 years on the field.

That's true, but i was coming at it from the point of view that if there were contract issues then he wouldnt even have to train with us. If he's going to training then there probably isnt an issue with the contract. Also, If Cook knew he wanted to leave then he wouldnt have him at training i'm sure.

Having read that Connor has admitted speaking to Turner about the possibility of a move to Galway isnt this a case of "tapping up" a player who is under contract (if of course the contract is valid) and are there any laws in the game against this?

Yes there is and tapping up is a serious offence if proven but remember Turner's famous 'Sean Connor' clause so that probably allows them to talk.

I can't believe the club and Paul Cook would sign a player with this type of clause in his contract did they not read it first before he signed and who wrote it up for him Sean Connor and Turners agent just sounds a bit un real if you ask me. Sounds like Connor has been telling porky pies instead of eating them.

They were quite comfortable with the clause because no on believed that any club in it's right mind, would employ Humpty.

Heard today that Turner is still our player and there is no clause in his contract. Shams want to sign him and we are looking for 20 k for him but they don't want to stump up the cash. Wether its true or not I don't know but it seems to be comin from a good source so make of it what you like i suppose.

Stall the digger, Alan. If Turner is gone to Shams it's for the same reason that Raf went to Bohs - money. If he was made an offer that we couldn't/wouldn't match, well that's that. Not good riddance though as he is the best midfield player in the country. Mind you, it's odd that he has only been able to show that when playing for Humpty

Still an awful lot of ifs in this story, but if he is gone, then I'd be inclined to agree with Alan, as it would seem that despite signing a contract with Rovers Turner had little interest in giving 100%. I somehow doubt he was going to starve on what Rovers were paying him.
Best midfielder in the country? Potentially, but if a lad is on the field for you, but constantly wondering how to squeeze out an extra few bob by moving elsewhere, he's not worth the hassle.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I've always thought that the "professional" in the description "professional footballer" should mean a bit more than simply "getting a full-time wage". This kind of messing wouldn't reflect well on him.
Maybe it's all a false alarm, but if he's gone under these circumstances, good riddance, and better to be shot of him now.

Perhaps there are developments today that I am not aware of, but this is getting ridiculous ......... he is training, no he is gone to Shams, will he, wont he. The sooner it is sorted we can move on one way or the other. If he goes then perhaps hopefully we can focus on signing some player who may want to genuinely play for this pretty decent club of ours before it is too late. He is a good player, no doubt about it, but personally I am getting a bit pi**ed off with his attitude.

It is sh1t talk. Do you really believe that the board would let Turner go for 200 yoyo a week - especially if that was what was agreed in contract?.
