LIMERICK GOT THE LICENCE FOR ONE REASON THE LEAGUE WOULD BE UNEVEN. YOU CANT HAVE AN UNEVEN NUMBER OF CLUBS IN THE LEAGUE THAT MEANS ONE CLUB WOULD OF PLAYED ONE LESS MATCH AND THAT WOULD EFFECT THE STANDINGS AND EVEN THE PLAYOFFS. SO SOME POOR CLUB WOULD NOT OF BEEN PROMOTED BECAUSE OF LIMERICK DEMISE. WHY DO YOU THINK THE REPLACES ST FRANCIS WITH KILDARE? IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO HAVE A LEAGUE 11 TEAMS.

despite the capital letters, all you do is give each team a weekend off every series of fixtures. it's not ideal, but it's easily managed.
i doubt that even and odd numbers made the slightest difference to the independent body the FAI have retained to implement the UEFA licencing requirements.

sean from what I can make out what you say is rubbish. Loads of major sporting events have a week were one team doesn't play. To say that the FAI awarded Limerick a licence just to make the league even is nonsense.

Turn off your caps.

The 1st Division had an uneven number the 2001-2002 season when Drogs came up.

Its a disgrace if Limerick were awarded the licence for that reason. They didn't meet the requirements so should not have been awarded one. It may seem harsh but whats the point in us in Derry trying so hard to get one for yous to get one by default?

If that was true I'd agree with you Brendy (and that would be a first in itself) but it's pure speculation and highly inaccurate. It happened in the 2001/02 season when we had 21 teams for a year between St.Francis leaving and Kildare coming in.

If Anything Limerick going would solve a headache for the league. It would leave clubs playing 30 games instead of 33 and an even number of home/away games...

And while I'm at it, most of the League Cup groups have three teams giving teams fixtures off. Makes no difference.

How have Limerick passed the infrastructure section of the licencing? Surely the Pike Rovers ground not good enough for the 1st division?

Anyone know what changed to get them their licence?

We haven't been told yet... I would imagine that the words Thomond Park and/or Market's Field were in there somewhere though.

It makes an absolute joke of this UEFA liscence scheme if a club with no Team no money and no ground which is operating as a limited liability company that was set up a few weeks ago can get one. Thats the real own goal scored by the F.A.I ,who is going to put money into getting the improvements needed when all you have to do is point to Limerick look at that shower.

This is a major embarrassment for a great sporting city.

Well in the leader JP said that "the next step is to get an emphasis going towards getting back to the Markets Field" - so we're basically back at square one again. BnaG won't be leaving the Markets Field any time soon, not for a few years anyway, so I can't see how Limerick could have anything sorted out there by April 2005, when the license is up for review. The Pike will not be suitable for league football next season, according to the article, so that means that the club is in a race against the clock to find a suitable ground by that time. New season, same old story.

Furthermore, Mike Kerley has only six players so far, all from last year, and is struggling to get quality players in.
