View Full Version : Tuesday fixtures
Bray Head

Why is there a full set of fixtures on the same night as the champions league fixtures. Surely matches should have been played tonight to avoid a clash. I know Rovers and Drogheda only played on Saturday but they could have moved their fixture to the Friday. It's hard enough to get people to go to the games without clashing with the Champions League.

why should we pander to the champions league or anyone else?..fans who want to go to the games will regardless of whats on TV..should we change a set of fixtures for the very few people who might have went to a match if there was nothing better on TV???..no way...i'd be more concerned,as you should be,at having to play a vital league game a few days before a cup semi although i think ye have an extra day or two to recover.

I agree with CarrickFan. You can't just postpone games coz there's more flash footy on the telly. It would be a ridiculous situation - League postpones games due to English and Scottish clubs playing on TV.

you could put the midweek rounds when there's no CL though.

Any league fan that would rather stay in or go to the boozer to watch a CL game instead of going to their own team's home game down the road is no fan at all.
Crowds are generally down for midweek games.
They're down even further when there is CL on TV.
Therefore scheduling a round of games clashing with the CL is totally stupid.

Slightly off-topic, but in Brazil, midweek games are often played with 10PM kickoffs, so as not to clash with popular Brazilian soap operas. Crazy wha?!

For me this is a bad scheduling, many people prefer to watch the Champions League. I'm not from Great Britain, but here the matches are always in different day than the European tournaments.

Because the Fai Cup Semi finals are on this weekend.
EDIT: forgot there was a full set of games on friday also, thats just bad planning.

Do Newstalk do goal updates as they go in? may have to bring a radio to tallaght to keep an ear on things in Dalymount.

Pats will lose :)
Whether Rovers win or not is another thing..
Hence I said 'generally'.

Yes, but didn't we get only about half that for the first Bray game (which was also midweek)?

It was just a bad combination of Champions League Football and terrible, terrible weather that night.

We're gone tonight anyway. Last week's win against Derry looks invaluable now.
By the way, Rangers are losing 4-1 at home to Unirea Urizeceni, imagine if this year's league winners could pull off something like that next year!
