In fairness this guy had/has ability. We don't no for certain why he has not fulfilled his potential . Maybe he wasn't good enough. Maybe he couldn't cope with that sort of life.

It would be great to hear the views of the lad himself. You would imagine that he himself should have a better idea than most others as to why he didn't reach the level that so many thought he could.

I probably posted it earlier in this thread but I saw him live in 2009 or 2010 and a superb delivery aside, he didn't seem anything special. But he did have a great delivery.

Saw him play for Ireland and thought he had real ability. Shame. Although it's good for the league

Good article on him in today's Indo. About being homesick and moving back to Ireland

Lazy git, he had the talent to play in the top division and become an Ireland regular. I always lumped him in with Alan Judge and considered Treacy to be the more exciting prospect. To be around the Ireland squad so often too........bah.

What a waste, as Ian Dury once sang. (Good for the League though....possibly...he sounds desperately unfit. Could he not leave the bloody golf for 5 years and make a go of his huge talent.......kids these days, I don't know)

Whatever floats his boat I suppose.

Keith Treacy: I'm a lot poorer but I'm a lot happier (http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/league-of-ireland/im-a-lot-poorer-but-im-a-lot-happier-former-ireland-international-treacy-on-new-life-in-league-of-ireland-34503576.html)

Did you read the article?

Allardyce said he was the most gifted young player he ever managed.

Doesn't always translate as Whelan's graft will attest to.

Funny reading the posts here on this page affirmed what I had thought on reading the article in the independent. I really didn't take treacy as a legit character witness...:D

To me it reads more than homesickness. He was depressed for a period and got so low that he had to start from the bottom, taking it bit by bit and had to pick some activity that he could use to get moving again and it turned out to be golf. And he talks about his wife, in the way a depressed person talks about a supportive spouse.
And yes a player like him has unused talent, but what do you do when you lose confidence, hope and ambition? And anyway, it's his talent to use in whatever way he wants. He probably had worked hard for years as a kid to develop his talent, while most of us would be sinking a rake of pints after a game. He owns his own talent.
Good luck to him.

I think it was well-known that Treacy wasn't happy emotionally over there and this was the cause of some of his footballing problems.

i didn't know that but there's a good space between emotionally unhappy and what he's expressing.

Well by that token(and the aforementioned ability) he should take the LOI by storm then this year.

A lot of players are expected to take the league by storm and don't. Clearly Treacy's nowhere near the level he was playing at, and he'll need to step it up if he's to make it in this league.

Couldn't agree more. That was originally written in a hurry but anyone who knows the slightest about mental illness/issues will see he was obviously depressed. Fair play to him for making himself happy again.

The one where he lay naked on a bed and exposed his chocolate starfish to the camera.

how do you manage to quote Charlie's post and replace his name with mine?
Not that I am put out to be the named person on a quote that did originate from Charlie but that's seriously fcked up. And for such an action, who else but paul o shea could manage that.

this was the Charlie's post

Paul is a natural admirer of you but once he gets in with that YBIG he realises he needs to devote himself full-time to being a real fan of going to away games.

The admiration under other circumstances might be truly flattering, but this particular expression of admiration has a sarky stalker feel about it.
I suppose that would be the YBIG influence.

i see Keith was an used sub last night, how long will it take for him to get up to scratch?

Great interview. Speaks candidly about how he never liked playing football matches and how much he used drink as a crutch in living life as a football player. He's off it a year and still only 30 but reckons he couldn't go back playing competitively.

A real "what could have been". Comparing him to Stokes is a little unfair IMO, Stokes didn't hit the heights that were expected of him, but he did still have a reasonable career

Did Keith Tracy actually have more ability and therefore possibility ? ?~ ~ Stokes lacked the pace for the higher levels. It didn’t help that he seemed to be a bit of an eject as well mind.

Sure there are 1000’s if not 10’s of thousands of “ “ What could have been, if only “ "

I know that's it all part of Sky's narrative to frame the story/comeback in as tragic a manner as they can but it irritates me more than it should that they've airbrushed out his earlier effort to cut it in the LOI in 2015 and 2016 with Drogheda and St.Pats.
