View Full Version : FAI Intermediate Cup 2009/2010
fanad is a tough place to go and get a result.... strong team, always a big local support, big community!
its a long trip for any MSL to USL tie, but Fanad is approx 2hours from bundoran.
Anybody know much about Fanad? Nasty Trip for the Dale, possibly the worst draw for themThey've been there before and won, Dale are a very experienced team and have a lot of winners medals.
Although its a remote place by al accounts

Bonagee United 1 - 2 Drogheda Town
Shocking how Bonagee lost this one, they should have been 4 or 5 up by half time. Missed a penalty, hit the bar and missed a few one on ones. 2 chances for Drogs and they scored both.
Bluebell 2-0 Belgrove
Revised Draw
Fanad United FC v Avondale United FC
Bluebell United FC v Crumlin United FC
Rockmount AFC v Dublin Bus FC
Tolka Rovers FC v Drogheda Town FC
to be played week ending March 7th

Glenvilel 0-4 Crumlin Utd
Bonagee made pay for poor finishing. Drogheda the opposite. 3shots, 2goals.
The reaction from the Drog camp was definitely, 'got out of jail'.
Quarter finals will be interesting all round.
Will be good to see Avondale in action in Donegal

Tis no wonder Mount are favourites after another soft home draw.
Avondales current form is awful, they'll need to improve bigtime to get a result up North.

Why would it be rockmount park? It would be turners cross if it was in cork

Billy, if you had read earlier posts, there was a joke made about Rockmount always getting home draws and Razor mentioned that it would be in whitechurch if Rockmount could get away with it.
So i was just carrying on the joke.
Thanks for your input though

Fanad are a cracking side too, should be a good game.
I might stick a few quid on Fanad at 11's because if they get past Avondale their odds will be slashed.

Am I right in saying that these 8 sides enter the FAI Cup 1st Round proper where another draw is made? When is this draw for the 1st Round proper made? I think the Eircom/LOI sides enter at the 2nd Round stage. I could be wrong though...

I think you are correct.
Last year the 1st and 2nd round was made at the same time, with some clubs recieving byes for the 2nd round. The teams in the pot were 16 FAI Intermediate clubs (4th rd. participants) + FAI LoI 'A' Championship first team clubs + Junior clubs.
The ten winners went on to compete against the First Div. and Premier Div. clubs of the LoI in the third round.
Timings 1st round last weekend in April, 2nd rd. last weekend in May.
Is this changed?

Could be wrong but,
1st Round of FAI Cup is made up of:
Last 16 teams from the Intermediate Cup.
Last 4 teams from the Junior Cup
The 5 A League teams.
The 22 Senior clubs enter in the second round.
The numbers don't add up though, so, Harpojoyce could be spot on with 2 rounds played before Senior clubs enter.

Fanad Utd 1-2 Avondale Utd
Dale were 1 up after 15 minutes through Mark O'Sullivan but then lost a player on the half hour when John Cotter was sent off.
Fanad equalised with 15 left but Andrew Knowles got the winner with 3 minutes left.

Haha.
If I had a penny for every team that felt the could have got more from Rockmount... but didn't.
They have been the masters of the 1 nil win for years. Good luck to them.

Dale didnt deserve the win yesterday and it was a very uneventful game so a draw was probably a fiar result... tough trip in two weeks time for them. Thought Mark Horgan and Micheal Kiernan were Avondales best two players. Disapointed with Sprattys and Nolsey's input and it was no surprise they were substituted.
Any report on the Rockmount game?

Great result for Avondale though Tolka always seem to bottle it when it comes to big games. Never seem to have a team to match their fabulous facilities.

Anybody from the forum going to the match tomorrow?
How are Crumlin looking..
Bookies have them as favourites and with Avondales recent league form i'm not surprised.
Fingers crossed that the trophy returns to leeside.
I've also heard that Mick Welch's is gone at the end of the season with Ballinhassig his likely destination.
Would be a massive shock if this happened after the current Ballinhassig manager won the league recently.

I put my money on Avondale tomorrow. You've heard it here!!!!! not playing well this year but like the Rockmount team of the early 2000. not good in the league but have it in the cup. They have the best 13 players in the Cork & are well experienced. Crumlin a very hard working team who also have great quality & a huge squad.
Mulconry for man of the match tomorrow!!!!!!!
