So basically they have put the most westerly team and the most easterly team in Europe, that are in the competition, in the same group. ffs

Its not the worst draw for Bohs. Looking at the team there are a few Bundesliga rejects playing for them so they would be a fairly ordinary outfit apart from Janko.

It's a tough draw for the stage they're at. Also, Salzburg have Red Bull's millions behind them.
Here's their European record (http://kassiesa.com/uefaclubs/search/fm.php). Not great by any means, but they're very efficient against the lower echelons.

I see what you mean but looking at their squad they seem to make a lot of changes to their team each season and although they do have Red Bull's millions behind them the only players they do attract are form the Czech and Slovak leagues and a few players from the lower placed German Bundesliga.

So its based on the coefficent then - How is it that they can put malta (the worst of the unseeded teams) in our group.

Extra votes for UEFA at the FIFA table seems to be the primary reason, along with the Kazakhs getting the hump with the Asians.

for travel hell, imagine going to Atkobe, Kazakhstan from iceland for that champions league qualifier

It was the only reason. The original proposal was to exchange Kazakhstan for Azerbaijan, in the end UEFA retained both.

It's an awful draw for us. Artificial pitch to boot, loads of money pumped in by Red Bull. They were one of about 3 or 4 I didn't want to get so gutted really. Only positive is we're home second leg. If we win we'll be the highest ranked non seeded team again so of all the bigger teams in it it was a bad one from that point of view as well. At least they're winter football and we're home 2nd leg I suppose.

They split the seeds up into pots so basically the top 8 seeds are seperated, then the next 8 go into those pots, then the next 8 etc etc
So you could have a pot with one fo the 8 seeds, one of the 9-16, one of the 17-24, one of 25-32, and one of the 33-40 and so on.
Thats the way it was for us in the first round last year, and it looks that way here

Albania it is...
Edit - that's not too bad logistically. Assuming they play in Shkoder, it's almost on the border with Montenegro. Fly to Dubrovnik and drive, or fly via Vienna to Podgorica.

After they'd knocked out a Slovenian side though. Another tough draw.
(Those Bert Kassies links don't work. Go to his site (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/) and click on search; it'll show up their European history, excluding the TotoToto Cup.)

meanwhile, linfield have a 20% chance of drawing a danish team called randers fc.
I bet that would throw a few of the less literate types in the village, who would turn up expecting to see the scottish champions.....

I presume our IL brethren will be approaching their fixtures in their usual professional and cosmopolitan manner, with half of their players on holiday and the other half trying to avoid the local police.

We really don't want to get Qarabag:
"Garabag Agdam
City : Agdam, Azerbijan
Travel : Agdam was a city in Southern Azerbaijan. Today the city which bustled with life just 15 years ago is under Nagorno-Karabakh control, completely deserted and in ruins; it is known as the "Hiroshima of Azerbaijan" and is under Armenian control. Officials of Nagorno-Karabakh advise travelers to stay away from the city, due to its close approximaty to Azerbaijan border."

Do they share a ground?
UEFA have a grave adversion to two matches going on, in the same mid-week, in the same city (nod to fionnsci) or sometimes the same region. Mobilisation of four separate club fans and the permutations between them, stretch of local resources (incl. emergency services, specialised or elite security.) are some of the reasons for it.
So UEFA usually (it happens alot) makes one, almost unseen, movement and reverses one of the ties. Easy.
Obviously there are occasions when there are three clubs from the same place involved so there is little advantage to a change.

Would put distillery to colma in with derry, and last named team to winner match 4 in with pats

Nope. 5 seeds in with 5 non seeds, then a draw. Some of the winners of the first round will be seeded in the second round

I knew that. What I was asking, badly, is how are those groups matched. Is it the 5 highest seeded team will draw 1 of the 5 lowest unseeded team and so on.
If so then pats would be looking at Juvenes/Dogma through winners of match 4.

As I said above, I wouldn't wish Lurgan on anyone. Even the away fans from Nagorno Karabakh would go back feeling more positive about their situation.
Andorra or San Marino please!
