First clash with Waterford/cobh ramblers this season. Yet again, we will be without the services of Jason Hughes who will miss his sixth game of eight this season due to international commitments. Hopefully Tierney or Cummins or both will be back. I think a 0 0 is in the offing

Looking forward to the game Friday.
I am hoping to ablitorate the horrible memories of that defeat last season.
I fancy us to win. I might leave a prediction later in the week.

Me too. They are after beating Monaghan 6-0 last week so I don't know what to expect. A draw would be ok. All depends if either Cummins or Tierney or both are back.

The way Waterford are going a draw would be a good result at this stage of the season. With a full team i would be looking for a win but at the moment a draw would be great.

I too am looking forward to this game. Getting the train from Waterford and crashing on the couch for the night in a mate's gaff.
We have a tough defense and our forwards are on fire, especially Graham Cummins & WJ Kiely. Waterford will be at full strenght and if Limerick are too, it should be a cracker of a game. It will be close. 2-1 Blues. However i wont be too disappointed with a 1-1.
Lads, whats the latest from the Lims squad?

Lads, whats the latest from the Lims squad?
Both our first choice strikers are only back in training this week so doubt they will start but hopefully Cummins and Tierney will be in the squad.
Other than that we have pretty much full squad to pick from in the last week or so expect Jason Hughes and Ian Storan who are playing with the Irish Schoolboys team on Friday.

This is a tough one to call. If our lads play like they did 2nd half at Shels, we'll win for sure. On the other hand, a Monaghan/Wexford/Kildare type performance wont be enough v Waterford.
But they always seem to turn on the good stuff for the big games so I am, as usual, optimistic :)
0-0 draw with Scanlan up front, or a 1-0 win if Cummins and Tierney feature :ball:

After our last two games I'd be quite hopeful of a win, and a good one.
But that 5-1 still looms large in the memory!
Like Partizan, I think when all is said and done I'd be fairly happy to come away with a 1-1.

Thank you Mark Gough for ruining another Limerick game.We were well in the game till Gough did his usual trick and decided to let any official from the FAI know that he has no bias towards Limerick. What a C**T!

Mate are you having a laugh, yes the penalty was contentious but we had one shot in the whole game, we simply didnt compete with a bigger more physical side, that is not Mark Gough's fault. Very few performed up to scratch and where is the football we played on the deck last season. I was dissapointed for the big crowd and i feel like we will strugle against the big sides this season. Good to see Cummins and Tierney back, we badly need guys with an eye for goal, hopefully they will be back to full fitness soon

Yes, but even a draw would have been a reasonable result and their first goal was offside. And it is beyond me how that was a penalty. The ball bounced up off his upper arm. It was a great match up until Mark Gough ruined it. On the plus side it was great to see a big crowd at the match, hopefully they will keep coming back.

We didnt deserve to win this make no mistake but did Waterford? what did they do only score an offside goal and convert a peno which wasent. We were poor in fairness but this business with Gough is gone far enough, every single time he refs a Limerick game he does his best to screw us but tonight was a disgrace. I know the referee standards are poor in the league but this fella needs to fcuk off back doing under 10s games.
Only good points were getting over a thousand in and the return of Tierney and Cummins during the game.

I was disapointed with the standard of fooball played, having said that wayne colbert looked a class above.,,,,,,,,davy ryan was man handled by the full back and gave away a lot of ball, danagher was very keane to stick the ball out for touch and imo didn't look the grade at all,bad points aside the atmosphere was fantastic the lads in the shed were top class,i

A draw would have been a fair result, the first 15 minutes was the only time they were on top, very evenly matched after that. We were very unlucky for the first goal...miss hit shot and an offside...and the penalty was an easy one to give he moved his arm to the ball. Wayne was unlucky in the first half if we had went a goal up we wouldnt have been beaten.
No17fan how can you slate Danagher? His distribution may not be perfect, whose is in this division, but he's a very good defender

We are playing a very different game this season note the change in manager. As for struggling against the big teams, I don't think we will, the team as a whole is very well organised, watch how quickly they get back in position after conceding possession, our problem will be how quickly we support the front man

The back 4 looked solid (as you'd expect from a P.Scully team)and were more so when Brian came on,his reading of the game is second to none.We look like we're going to struggle to score however.don't know what game your were watchin Seniorblue but apart from the first 15min Limerick controled the game,as other poster here agree.Gough is a very poor ref and if thats the standard their churning out from the FAI this game will always be stuck in the duldrums.
A big crowd last night with a lot of first timers will not be impressed with that performance.

I was watching the one where Limerick had one shot in the whole 90 minutes, the one where Limerick were physically shoved off every 50/50 challenge and the one that seriously exposed the same weaknesses of the last couple of years. Wake up and smell the coffee, we don't have the resources and we don't have the players to play the kind of games Scully is trying to impose. Stop making people believe things about last night that quite simply aren't true, we were very poor last night and the season will be one of mediocrity but i accept that and i will continue to go to the games to support the lads coz they give it their all, just because they are not competing at the top doesn't mean you have to defend the club everytime someone makes a constructive comment
thats not how it works here, see if you have an opinion different to a select few you get branded a wum and a juniorballer, they then get on to their mod friends to dish out infractions, bit childish really...i went to Limerick matches for years but stopped going 2 years ago because i was sick of wasting my money,it was the same story every year, this is our year,we have a new chairman,we have plans for Jackman,we have a new manager, now i still look out for results and the current regime seem to be doing a good job and best of luck to them but Limerick FC is going nowhere until they get their own ground(not some second rate hovel with dressing rooms you couldn't swing a cat in) and spend some money on proven LOI players(easier said then done i know)now i must sit back and await the backlash

However like you say you can't have an honest opinion on this site coz there are guys on this with an agenda. Like i say i will continue to support the club, they are doing the best with the worst resources in the league so at least senior soccer is alive and we have games to go to

Hate to break up your lovefest Oscar/seniorblue but at the game last night that i was at Waterford had 2 attempts at goal ,one offside and one a very dubious pen. other than that they never looked like scoring. i agree with you that we did not creat many scoring chance's ourselves but to write off the club as you are is crazy.there were many positive aspects to Limericks approach and with Cummins/Tierney on the way to full fitness things will get better.

Waterford did control the first 15 minutes but Limerick got into it then and played some nice football. It was pretty even then and looked like the game would probably finish all square, that is until Waterford got the first goal. Limerick where still there or there abouts in the game but when the penalty was given (which was a joke, Deady swung at the ball at the edge of the box to clear it and it bounced up off his hand. Very harsh, especially where he was placed in the box. The ball hitting his hand in no way infringed on Waterford going for goal) it killed Limerick off. Even when Limerick had posession they wasted it which poor passes and awful long balls. Walshe over all looked very good as did Purcell. Scanlon is really struggling when he comes up against big strong defenders i.e last night and also against Monaghan. He chased all night but was easily pushed off the ball and was second to everything in the air. In saying that Gough seemed to miss numerous pushes in scanlons back and was awful overall in the game.
If Wayne had converted that early chance when Limerick where ontop i think it could have been a different game. Improvement is to be made but once again it looks like it will be next season before Limerick are really challenging unless they can get 4 or 5 wins in a row which doesn't look likely at the moment.

Due to doing some work at the shop, I didn't see the first goal or the penalty decision, so can't comment on either, but I otherwise thought it was a pretty even game. The lack of any kind of cutting edge after Waterford went 2 up was disappointing, and it will kill us if it continues all season.
We are obviously a team which won't concede many goals, but we don't look like scoring many either. I can see lots of 0-0 draws. The team as a whole is not tall enough or strong enough.

dont think we can blame gough for this defeat.not sure about the first goal,2nd was a pen..harsh but defo a pen but simply waterford were better than us,played better football and were always composed.scully has us well organised and when we do lose the ball we quickly find a good shape, which is the scully way but going foward we dont seem to have a decent plan A and when we went behind he eventually went to 4 4 2 but that too did,t seem to have been worked on.was waynes first half shot our only one on target...waterford exploited obvious weakness,s like o callaghan at fullback overweight, slow, both paddy and dano were quite poor cummins and kiely caused them plenty problems and the fact we get so many bodies back after conceding possession saved us on a few occassions.walsh and wayne both the bright sparks in a poor performance.there might have been a thousend in the grounD but plenty non paying kids and how can so many kids get in without their parents and lets face it half of them were right little knackers who hardly helped the ordinary punter enjoy the game.a group of us were offered loads of tickets before the game by kids outside for a fiver, also we counted at least 20 getting in over the railway wall into the game...the whole thing was a disgrace.....one group of supporters near us left after halftime because they had stones thrown at them...with 2 stewards nearby doing nothing.

That was a sickener, we did not deserve to lose.
First 10 minutes or so it looked like Waterford were going to rip us apart, until we made our first meaningful attack, and then had three attempts at goal in the next five or ten minutes. After that things settled and both sides seemed pretty evenly matched.
I didnt see what happened with the first goal thanks to the pillar of the shed obsuring my view, but by the reaction of the crowd I can only assume it was offside.
Then to concede the penalty put any chance of a draw beyond us because after that, Waterford "parked the bus" as they say.
It was definitely a penalty, to me it looked like he controlled the ball with his arm. Shame, he was only a yard inside the box, with plenty more back to defend had Deady not got to it.
I'm not too disheartened with the way the season is going so far - just comparing with the poor start we had last season. Our first Waterford match last year, we lost 3-1. As I recall we were very fortunate not to have conceded five or six, and our goal was a highly dubious penalty for a Wayne Colbert dive in the last few minutes. Contrast that to Friday, where we should have held them to a draw but for an offside goal and a penalty. Its sickening to lose a macth like that, but lets be honest, they didnt play us off the park and create two goals - they got lucky, in fairness.

and we welcome you back soon for the next games. I thought it was great the other night but for about 20 ikkle nacks who dispite being thrown out can just walk back in through the unused flats back into the ground. Over 1000 ppl in the ground to see a muck game??? ill take that anyday knowing how short on cash we are.
The stewards are volenteers lads and i wouldnt ask them to put their heads in the line of anything. The **** thing about these kids being in the ground was.....their "olds" were with them i **** you not. Many a time leo had to ask them to control their kids to which he got.."steven, steve put down that rock" steven was about three.
The fact is we are in the worse ground in the league, a ground where anyone can pick up a stone, most grounds are stone free, and throw it. Most of the little kids are only in the ground to go chasing some young one around the place anyway so we should offer them beer or something outside the gate to get them to leave. ;) i say continue with the free kids but yes somthing has to be done about the flats and the endless stream comming over the walls.
New car parking vacilities are available on match nights btw at the cash and carry car park across the road from 6 -10 and there will be stewards over there watching the place

When I saw all the little pikeys about the place I went to the far side to watch it. Free tickets are a good idea but it should be kept to "accompanied by an adult"
osarusan
27/04/2009, 11:23 AM
I saw the steward being "assaulted". He chased and caught a kid who had jumped down over the wall, then was hit from behind by another kid (about 10-12 maybe?). I chased the second kid and he eventually jumped over the wall onto the pitch and ran across the Waterford penalty to the other side.
Outside the ground there were loads of kids asking random adults if the adults would pretend the kid was with them. Giving tickets to kids is good, but they really need to be accompanied by an adult, or else they need to be herded into one place and kept there (say on the side opposite the stand, create a section from the end line to about the halfway line and barricade it in some way - of course the problem will be keeping them there).
