Limerick 2-0 mervue, home debut goal for cummins and one from walsh. Hopefully it'll be a 4-4-2 this week. Bringing up a few extra lads for this match to try get them hooked. Hopefully more people can convince a few more bodies in the gate.

We should all make an effort to bring some extra bodies to this match.A big crowd and a decent performance would help the club big time going forward.I'm bringing 2 newbies.:D

Good squad assembled this year. All fit and injury free we will be one of the better teams in the league i'd say. If we perform like we did at the end of last season we will be one of the teams noone will be looking forward to playing.

Best of luck to Waterford too, its going to be a tough season for all teams but hopefully the entertainment value of it this year might get more bodies in the gates for all clubs involved.

Have not seen Wunch does he deserve to be in instead of Colbert. No Purcell or Barrett ...;acks a bit of experience.my Limerick team would be Ryan Daly Purcell Callaghan o'brien,or storan,(dont know deedy)carroll colbert, barrett, walsh, cummins and Tierney (is Hughes still injured?)play him if he is fit maybe.good bench options this year manjo hayes ryan and lyons to name a few

1-1. Limerick to struggle against an 11 man defence with only 1 up front, Walsh to get sent off for fouling the ref and Manjor to get arrested for crowd disorder.

Oh joy. :D

Us 8/13
Draw 5/2
Them 4/1

May I suggest Mervue +1 @ 6/5 in Hacketts.

Played for CBS in the Munster Senior Schools Cup Final. Hopefully he'll be starting friday. They won 1-0 by the way, Champions 5 times in a row.

One thing you will get from Mervue is plenty of chances especially from midfield. Their back four is solid enough with Keady at centre half. Up front they had nothing against us and only had 3 shots in 90 mins, two over the crossbar and one straight at our keeper. Our pace on the pitch killed them and I am sure that Limerick will do the same to them. We could have won by 6 with all the possession we had

From that video they look pretty weak down the right side of their defence, athlone got plenty of chances working down that wing, hopefully walsh can exploit it. Athlones finishing was very poor but barr that they do look a little better in attack than last season, created plenty of chances.

Bit worried about this one but think we'll scrape it 2-1. From the sound of it the lads were strugglin due to a lack of pre season v UCD. This basically so is our second game! Which means some of the new faces need to adapt to the style of play and the existing player still need match sharpness. Should overcome Mervue though but still see a tight match here. Here's praying its not a five man midfield again!!!!

Where is the best place to park around Jackman.

jebus

Probably the train station. It's only a 2 minute walk around the corner from there then

Think a lot of the city centre car parks are open late but if you get there early enough you should get a spot just outside the ground. Now I know some people think this as being risky but iv never heard of any problems with parked cars outside since we moved back to Fort Jackass.

Anywhere along the peoples park is always good to park. That is where i leave the motor and is always safe. Loads of spaces around there but you could also just park in town and walk in. Jackman easily reachable from town!!:D

I always park my car up near the park. A friend of mine always parks his skoda up near the wicked chicken. As long as we've been going we've never seen anything happen related to cars.

Hi folks,

Am going to head in for the match tonight too. Never been to see Limerick before, but am going to try and make an effort this season to get into Jackman Park and see what it's like.

Looking forward to it - hopefully will be a good night.

Thanks. Any players in particular to keep an eye out for? And any idea roughly how many might show up tonight?

Crowd of about 600 I reckon

Keep an eye on Wayne Colbert in the centre midfield, and Walshe out the right wing. Our brightest prospect Jason Hughes (centre mid as well) is out injured at the moment but he's one to keep an eye on in future games

Really enjoyed it in at Jackman Park tonight. Great result, good atmosphere in the stand with the drum and the lads up the back singing - Think I might come back next week for the Athlone match! What is it with kids running around the place though?!! There were 2 young fellas trying to squirt a bottle of evian water at eachother whilst weaving in and out of everyone in the 2nd half, and a bunch of girls playing a large scale game of tag in the first. The old lad close to me was getting very annoyed with it all at one stage :D

With regards the players, the number 3 I thought was very good. His set piece deliveries with the left foot were usually excellent and whipped in with pace.

Lads,
Just a quick comment on one of yer players Martin Deady.
This young fellow is full of talent. Always has been.
Watch out for him he is a class act.Wouldn,t belong before other clubs come looking for him.

Was a strange line up tonight but limerick did the job that had to be done. I hope Cummins getting carried into the dressing room isn't bad news, he showed some good touches and was able to beat a man. Nice little one two for Tierneys goal. Looking forward to having Hughes, Purcell and Colbert back hopefully for next week.

1. We were poor
2. They were awful
3. Tommy disinterested
4. Why no Danagher from the start?
5. No yingyang beer samples...for shame

1.No(trying to play a passing game-will take time)
2.Yes(always going to struggle 1st season)
3.No(was playing out of position)
4.Dunno(cant say the 2 centre halves played badly)
5.Now thats a shame(hopefully see some soon)

3. Not slating him just saying he looked disinterested and isnt he playing out of position for almost 2 seasons

LK37oldskool
14/03/2009, 2:28 PM
True, he's been a bit of a "jack of all trades" recently but he is carrying a knee injury. He was'nt going to sign a contract till it was cleared up but seems to have been persuaded otherwise.

BTW Wallace up to his old tricks in Wexford last night. He would'nt let Waterford warm up on the pitch and the back pitch light was crap as usual. When Waterford forced the issue he relented but told them he would'nt give them food and drink after the game. What a tit!

Agree we weren't great last night but with no pre-season it was sharpness that was lacking. I didn't think Tommy had much to do last night but what he did he did alright. Was shouting and encouraging the team throughout so i wouldn't say he was disinterested. Hopefully the team will be a little sharper next week, which i expect they will. Look on the bright sie, we are 4th in the league and ahead of fingal:p

LFC-Zulu
14/03/2009, 9:10 PM
Well in fairness, after all the uncertainty of the pre-season, can you honestly expect an ace performance from the players? I was fully sure we were not gonna get 3 points last night, but yet again, I was proven wrong. As for Tommy, that man is Limerick FC personified, not a hope is he disinterested. However, I would feel a lot more confident with Garry Sheahan playing up front with Paul or John. I still expect a very strong challenge for playoffs this season. :D

While i was initially dissapointed to lose sheehan i was very impressed with Cummins on Friday night. He has the pace of Sheehan for sure and looks crafty with the ball at feet.A few goals will do him the world of good.I think we'll see a lot better from this squad as the season progresses and they get match fit.Lack of pre season games very odvious at the minute.

LFC-Zulu
15/03/2009, 10:55 AM
Yet again, Paul looks excellent, but I still miss Garry to be honest, I'd rather have him there. Now, the main point here is that no matter what players you have playing, the key is getting them geed up. Now, we have a core support, anyone would've seen that if they had stayed on for a good 30 minutes after the final whistle on Friday, but we need numbers. Between myself and a few lads, we hope to do a quick round of te pitch boundary where the majority watch from, and encourage people to come up and have a laugh while singing with us. Now, this will be planned for the first big home game of the season, Waterford in April. I know you can't force this, but any extras always helps. [ Quoting Tesco there?] So hopefully, we get a few people hooked on the shed, and the noise level up. End of rant! ;)

15/03/2009, 12:12 PM
LFC Zulu - Good on ya. Will be class if we can get a few more into the shed. Myself and the lads always stand next to the singing crowd and join in more often than not. Would be good if we could get the whole shed to contribute.

As on the match I thought we would stuggle and to be honest we did. If we were playing anyone else we would have been given a stiffer test but three points is three points. Few positives though, Cummins up front looks handy. O Callaghan altho poor on the ball looks solid enough back there and also got a goal. Team looks very small though and when hughes comes back it will be even smaller.

Final Question - Why was Dannagher put up front at the end

jebus
15/03/2009, 12:57 PM
Lads a 4-1 wins a 4-1 win at the end of the day, no need to look for major negatives in our second game of the season after a very short preseason.

Especially in a game we completely controlled bar that 20 minutes spell between us going 3-0 up and 4-1 up. O'Callaghan's positioning was excellent and his experience will be essential, I was behind the goals for his one and he completely sold his marker down the river to lose him for the header. Tierney and Cummins look good up front, I'd still prefer to have Sheehan obviously as I'd rate him as the best striker in this division and if we had a selection headacher between those three we would be doing well, so here's hoping he gets sick of the travelling to Wexford and resigns in the summer. We absolutely killed Mervue down the flanks as well, Walshe could easily become our player of the season in my eyes, he has everything you need to be a quality winger and the commitment is there as well, so I'm expecting big things from him this season. As well as that I think Davy has started very well in goals for us this season, he's always been a good shot stopper, he's looked more confident defending set pieces and his distribution has improved a lot.

Good start all round at home and here's hoping for more of the same next week against Athlone

Well I was at Ballinasloe in pre season and Dano played up front there as well. Very handy with a cross in the box, but my god, bit of pace? Haha. Yet again, you can't say he wasn't quality last season.
Just got news that Paul Cummins broke a bone in his foot, out for 6-8 weeks. :(

Okay lads yet again, I will say, Manjor is slowly becoming a good lil player, saw him in pre season against a full Galway team, dominated.

Jofspring
16/03/2009, 8:57 PM
I'm sure manjor is improving as he gets used to playing eircom league football but i'd say carroll is the best candidate as he has experience. Pity about Cummins, would have liked to see him get a few games played early on, i'd say he's sickned he's picked up the injury.

I hope you guys were dry in the shed, cause I was soaked moving around on the station side trying to make it look like there was more than 500-odd:D.
I don't want to get carried away with the match, a good result, a good performance, but look who we were playing. A decent junior side at best, it will be a long season for Mervue I'm afraid.
Don't get me wrong, we can only play what's put in front of us and we did well, I'll take it, but there will be tougher games than that.
