Looks quite good actually, the dark green flashes work well. Wondering why they have Kiely and Noel Hunt doing the modelling duties though.. just the eircom logo spoiling it.

Ya you'd see the odd fella around without the eircom logo on their jerseys though, how do they manage that one I always wonder?

This is a constant source of irritation to me. AFAIK we are the only international team that has a sponsor's name on its replica kit. I know it was a way to get Opel and Eircom to put up the cash in the old days but surely the FAI could negotiate a deal without having to splash an orange blob in the middle of the shirt.

I was lucky enough to buy the Euro88 shirt before Opel signed up so that is the last Ireland shirt I had without a sponsor. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me now (Ahhhhh - I remember when I was a Medium).

I have yet to buy an Irish jersey because of the logo. And yes, we are the only country in the World who cannot but the shirt our national team wears.
I have an unsponsered shirt that was used in a match.
Only way to get them.

Stupid FAI..

I managed to get an Ireland World Cup 1990 jersey in the North with no sponsor on it when I was younger (and no it wasnt a fake "replica"). It must be possible to get them somewhere. Is there an Umbro factory shop or something?

Yah Euro88 was the last jersey without the sponsor's logo. The Italia90 one was on sale from some UK mailorder shops without the logo but was much more expensive than the one here with the logo.

It is amazing how much these jerseys shrink in the wardrobe over the years.

There was a guy on here selling the jerseys without a logo a couple of years back.

Bull****.
It's the likes of you are to blame for this rubbish. Money money money, makes me sick. The fans deserve the right to wear the shirt. The real shirt.

Well they are losing out of my 60/70 bucks anyway and many more down through the yrs. I wouldn't buy one with the logo, it's horrible. I know its not a fashion show but I wouldn't waste money on something I'm not happy with, I'd prefer to just ware a green t-shirt or something

oh really... how do you work that one out?
i think Irish football has far bigger problems as to whether there is an orange blob on the front of the national shirt or not. all that matters is how the team play in the shirt not how much the fans look like the real thing wearing them

Bigger problems??
Such as what exactly?
Even the most lowly, poorest, and corrupt countries in the World have the ability to sell the right bleedin shirt to their fans?
I can buy a San Marino or Vietnam, or even a Faroe Islands shirt online right now, but not Ireland. It's disgusting to be frank.

You're entitled to your opinion, but remember the revenue the FAI get from Eircom filters it's way down to the schoolboy clubs and junior leagues, the first drop in revenue hits these people first.

Ive no problem with the logo, not that i like it, but i'd much prefer to see it and see the money invested into schools and junior levels.

And do you honestly think that all that will come to a halt if they take the thing off the shirt???
Rubbish.
Just look at Mercedes with Germany, Nationwide with England, Coca Cola with Argentina. Their fans wouldn't stand for their shirts being defaced, but Irelands???
Unreal..

What is it that you have the problem with? Is it that the Eircom logo is on the jerseys that are on sale for the fans and not on the actual jerseys worn by the players and are therefore not 'real', or are you annoyed because you feel that the placing of sponsors on national kits is wrong whether its on fans jerseys or players?

The objection is that the Eircom logo is on the shirts sold to the public when the ones worn by the players don't have it. We just want to wear the same shirt that the players do. Afer all, we don't have a problem with wearing Celtic shirts Carling on it, Man Utd ones with AIG, Liverpool with Carlsberg etc.

It is possible to buy the old away jersey( as worn against wales in the millenium stadium under stan) without a logo.

If these jerseys were made available previously, i dont see why they cannot be made available for the new one.

i think we should all turn up to the next match in Zanzibar shirts in protest.

definitely the coolest jersey i've ever seen.

also, as to the logo, not only is it shameful, but my home jersey one, the logo fell apart after 100 or so washes, it looks crap now.

also, do we bring out new jerseys more often than other countries? are there any rules regarding how long 1 particular jersey has to be kept for?

As much as a lot of us dislike Eircom, I actually think, as logo's go, it looks well on our jerseys. Maybe at this stage we could at least get Eircom to remove to letters and just leave the logo (if the FAI won't drop the shirt sponsor). It's not as if we don't know what the logo is at this stage.

Wonder why Zanzibar has its own jersey, when its a part of Tanzania? Regardless, that's a hell of a jersey, very cool. I'd actually prefer just the eircom lettering rather than the orange blob.

Its only ok IMO, nothing particularly new in it. There were a number of home jerseys for sale a year or two ago without any eircom logo on the front, but it had a players name and number on the back, think it was pretty much a choice between Keane and Duff and that was it but def looked better than the big orange in the front.

I recommend a book called "Outcasts - The Lands That FIFA Forgot"

Great read about national teams like Zanzibar, Greenland, Monaco, Gibralter, Northern Cyprus, Guernsey etc

In fairness i think that Umbro ony change them every two years, so its not too often. It appears they change the home/away in alternate years, so it appears theres a new one every year. It isn't Umbro's choice to have the logo on the shirt.

The shirt will look very well in South Africa next year. Even if we don't qualify there is always a good contingent of Irish supporters in attendance. If we do qualify then I can see thousands of those things on the streets of Cape Town.

Yeah, the Wild Cup and VIVA Cup are the main ones, along with the Island games. The book shows some interesting things, like how FIFA contradict themselves so much on certain contries refusal and how big a part politics play, especially with Greenland & Gibraltar's applications

I've just realised something. Don't Ireland shirts contravene FIFA's ambush marketing regulations at the World Cup?

They can be very heavy handed in stopping anyone prominently displaying the logos of any company that is not an official World Cup sponsor.

Theoretically, if we all turn up at the stadium on match day in South Africa next year wearing any current Ireland shirt, we won't be allowed in. Does the FAI know this?
