Another twist according to today's star, apparently we have given two players paycuts they hadn't agreed to, it's well past ridiculous at this stage.

It seems to me that the FAI will only act once the season is actually underway. Mr Coughlan will run City into the ground if this caper continues. If I were a Cork City fan I'd be very worried at the minute. I'd give it one month before I'd reckon there will be a major dispute at the club.

pay cuts? Were they just not left short?

Call it what you like being left short, or a paycut. It still amounts to them not being paid in full which breaks regulations. If I were one of the players in question I'd now demand a pay rise as they have Cork over a barrel.

What will actually happen to Cork? A ten point deduction (at most) and a slap on the wrists?
I'd be surprised if they even got a slap on the wrists.
If nothing else, CCFC/Coughlan are giving Alan Matthews plenty of evidence of their poor regard for their paid employees for use in future court action.
If I were a Cork City fan I'd be very worried at the minute.]
In the immeadiate short term there is very little City fans can do.

Cork should be automatically relegated today and allow Shels take their place in the Premier....end of.

Because unlike Cork they have learned from their mistakes and have a very sustainable wage bill and if ever a reason was needed....Doolin is a tosser spending silly money of other peoples like he did at Drogs and look where they ended up....... and just like Catchphrase years ago on the tele Keely says what he sees!!
Um.. the small issue of having sold out your future to pay wages still haunt Shels though- where are they going to be based in the future? Is there any credible plan? How long can they stay in Tolka?

Wind up? Or are you a shels fan?
Id imagine the obvious team to come up would be Harps.
Trying to blame Doolin is pathetic. He'l spend as much as he's given, it's not his job to look after the finances.
Shels fans are like a reformed smoker. Getting boring now.

Cork were given a premier licence on the basis that certain financial conditions would be met before the start of the season. Were they given a date to meet these conditions by and what exactly were these conditions? It seems to me like the licencing committee were never seriously going to withdraw the licence if these conditions weren't met..

How can Harps be even considered as they have slashed the wage bill to almost nothing and have all kids in their squad....not that its the kids fault or indeed Paul Hegarty but they are no Shels who would be ideal ahead of minnows like Harps/UCD or Cobh for that matter....lets be realistic here boys.....and as for Doolin, time will tell......he will bleed ye dry down there!

Do you even understand how licencing works and how teams are ranked?

According to some FAI quotes last week, the deadline was Friday, and we met the conditions.
Paying players mustnt have been one of them.....

You must be a shels fan alright....
They shouldnt be considered because they cut their budget to make it sustainable....right
And shels should because their team is good?
but they are no Shels
Something we are all thankful for every day....

Why start now?

Yep...he's making up his own budget as we speak....

Does anyone expect that the FAI will make an official comment on this matter?
There are bound to be spokesmen about for the league's launch tomorrow so I hope some news hounds ask them about this.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the way I see it is that CCFC have papered over the financial cracks in order to get their licence for the 2009 season and now that they've gotten in there's really nothing the FAI can do about it.

I think there are some fairly tough measures for any club that has any sort of problems with wages this year

Can't or won't?
I dunno. I do think without a doubt that relegation would be the end of us but at the same time I dont see how we could have any argument with whats being going on.

Why would it though? Lots of clubs have been relegated and survived. With a fan base the size of yours you should be able to cope more than most.

The FAI said there would be but as far as I know they didn't actually give any details. Are we looking at things like 40 point deductions (i.e. the difference between Europe and relegation)?

If we lost the license it would be relegation to the A championship rather than first division. With our contract commitments a 5 month season would see us in the same mess as last season but we would go straight to liquidation this time.

I'd imagine with the situation the club was in that they had the foresight to put clauses in the player's contracts that they could be ripped up if the club were to drop to the A Championship. You don't have any debts though as far as I'm aware so the players contracts would be the only thing that could get you into trouble?

I've no clue. I just know that some clubs were pushing hard for something along those lines. Thinking back on it, I don't even remember whether ANYTHING was agreed

I wouldnt be presuming that. We've had 6 months to be building up debts.
I don't know though, no one but TC does Id imagine
