I've heard it described as a Pump it up/Only fools and horses re-make. I haven't had the pleasure myself yet.

Its taken me quite a few listens to get in to this song. Its definetly not a U2 classic but it has something about it.It sounds like a rock n roll funky pop song.
From reading reveiws about the forthcoming album its seems that the rest of the new songs are different than Get On Your Boots.

'White Snow', 'Ceadors of Lebanon' and 'Unknown Caller' are meant to be the 3 best tracks on the album. IMO 'Mercy' is their best song....hasnt been officially released on an album or as a single though.

U2 have kicked off most of their last few albums with an up temto song that hints at a new direction.

The Fly
Discotheque
Beautiful Day
Vertigo

This falls in to that category.

Kind of a Joy Division feel off Mercy. Its meant to be on the new album as another title I think.

Think i heard they would only release it if they could cut it down, its 8/9 minutes long. They have a habit of doing that, sure Ultra Violet, Lady With The Spinning Head, Until The End Of The World and The Fly are all from the same template!!

Seems strange that someone who obviously hates U2 would go to the bother of starting a thread about their new song.

Reminds me (verses at least) of 'We Didn't Start the Fire' ...that most popular of dittys with wedding bands* -and co-incidently my most hated song in the history of all music ever -yes ...even surpassing Yazz and the Plastic Populations' 'The Only Way Is Up' and Fairground Attractions 'Perfect'.

*...ah Bless 'em -still pushing the envelope 30 years later. Heard they were on the radio in recent days upping their Northside Dub credentials. Where's it they're from again? The mean streets of Howth?

the album cover has something to do with in front of Bono's house, all he can see is the horizon of the sea meeting sky. Thats where he got the inspiration from, or so he says ;)

Is that where they built portholes for Bono so he can gaze out across the bay and sing about mountains, maybe?

Thats what I was thinking but it sounds like a very bad QOTSA, bono wrecks me head these days with all the self proclaimed rock star bull and were gonna have to listen to him for another 2 years with this album.

THe Northside Dub stuff came out at the Obama concert. I was watching it live and found it cringeworthy. Very close to we grew up in a cardoard box and look at us now.

Am I missing something here?
Doesn't that article state the album cover is based on work by a Japanese photographer?
Which I just read is this one (http://www.artnet.com/artwork/425914200/396/hiroshi-sugimoto-boden-sea-uttwil.html).

Given U2 have admitted as much, isn't Deupree more guilty of plagiarism then? His is even more of a rip-off.

Actually they are from

Larry - Artane

Bono - Glasnevin

Adam and The Edge are from Malahide.

So they are all from the Northside. He never said they were poor on the northside. Just that they were from the Northside of Dublin.

Now if we are talking about major d*cks he must go down as one of the worst offenders in Irish music history. Where is he now I ask. A bitter twisted sad git is Fearghal McKee. Whipping Boy were a decent band but I saw them about 2 years ago in the Olympia after a long lay off and they were rubbish. One of the worst gigs I have ever been at.

It's like a psychedelic Bond video. Watch out for the funny bit at the end - Bono punching through a concrete block.
