I just rang Boylesports and tried to place a bet on clubs winning the premier division and first division this season. They checked with their football department but don't have any prices nor could they tell me if or when they will.

I check paddypower's website and can't find anything either.

I don't normally bet at all and my small stake would have been a bit of support for a league sponsor more than anything else but am I being unreasonable in expecting to be able to bet on a league sponsored by a bookmaker?

Anyone know any bookies taking bets on the league?

Sure they don't know who will be in th e top division yet and even if there will be a top division. Wait a few weeks after teh Drogs affair etc is over and then you may see prices.

Who do you fancy by the way?

I'd imagine they're waiting to see who'll be in what division before releasing odds.

A couple of years ago a number of British based bookies were offering Drogheda at 7/1 shortly after Shels were demoted. Since then they seem to have just lifted their odds from PP

As has been said until they know the make up of the league, and the likely squads for each of the teams, there'll be no odds

Whos the guy here who last year ran a simulation thingy and then said Bohs would walk the league and they did???I know the person has to wait till leagues are sorted etc but i wonder is he going to do it again?

If bohs retain most of their squad they would be strong favorites 5/4 otherwise I would rank Derry next 4/1 , then pats 7/1 with us 20/1 and shams 25/1 as dark horses.

First divsion looks like a straight shootout between Fingal and Shels.

Last week I said my money would be going Derry and Shels if things remained the same (obviously they wasn't going to happen). Still plenty of things that will change however, but I'd go with Derry and Fingal now.

In the week after we were promoted Boylesports brought out some specials on Dundalk FC - to win a cup, to win the league, European qualification, finish ahead of Drogheda, etc.. They've all been removed from their site since then though.

Relax Gary. You will be able to return to your favourite pass time soon! :)

Mods! Shouldn't this be moved to the ST. Pats players forum

First Division favourites have to be Fingal with the squad they are getting together. Anything short of promotion for them would be a disaster I'd imagine

Reminds me of the Shels fans who were offering odds this time two years ago that they'd finish ahead of us in 2007. :)

On a similar note - first asterisk of 2009?

Bohs get my vote, followed closely by Cork.

UCD. For bringing out a sparkly blue shirt that blinds opposition players. 5 successive 10-0 victories spark a furious inquest that ends with the team playing in onion sacks, and Roddy Collins as manager.

i think Pineapple Stu should get a gold asterisk for being so right on!

No quote on Drogheda :D

http://www.boylesports.com/betting/?gi=4&sID=268.1&sltc=44642.1&sl=sltc

Bohemians 5/4
Derry City 5/2
Cork City 9/2
St Patrick's Athletic 8/1
Sligo Rovers 16/1
Shamrock Rovers 16/1
Dundalk 16/1
Bray Wanderers 100/1
Galway Utd 100/1

Fair play to them for having it up so early but they ain't giving much away either. Would love to lay Bohs at that price ;)

EDIT: Over round = 121.94 %

Boyles are a disgrace of a betting firm. 121% on an ante post market

CMcC

What are they paying e/w? Is it 1/3 odds first 3? Think Shamrock Rovers may sneak into 3rd place considering the turmoil surrounding many of the other usual challengers.

5/4 Bohs is a disgrace when you read the papers today.

I wonder what price Fingal will be in the 1st? On paper right now they look like good things.

Is it anything to do with there being one more contender to add in?

swano
23/01/2009, 6:04 AM
When they add in the 10th team it will increase the margin and offer less value to punters.
As RR said, laying bohs at that price would be a great bet.

I think 16/1 Rovers is too big. Improved squad, Tallaght, a lot more full time players and serious question marks over a few of the other contenders.

seems they've been reading this thread

Bohs out to 11/8
Rovers into 12/1

1/5 the odds 1,2,3

brianw82

1/5 the odds 1,2,3

At the prices above I'd say Sligo Rovers, Shams and (to a lesser extent) Dundalk would all be good outside bets for the top 3.

KUFCMan
23/01/2009, 10:51 PM
Bohs at 11/8 still has to be the bet considering how far ahead they were last season, and keeping most of their squad. If they have any money they will make more signings with a few new players already training with them!

I would have agreed with you in November on those two but not a chance now.

On most forums everyone is talking about Derry and Fingal, won't be much of a price on either with the other firms now :(

Fancy Cork and Fingal as a couple of bohs best players are leaving this week , if Cork are refused a premier licence is it safe to assume that your stake would be refunded.

I bet on St Pat's to win their Setanta group in 2006 - Shels, Portadown and Dungannon - knowing that Shels were going belly up. When Shels withdrew and were replaced by Cork, my bet still stood. To be safe, you may as well wait and see who's in what division.

That’s a lie. Pats were actually Shels replacement in the Setanta Cup (having lost to Derry in the FAI Cup the year before)

Rovers and Bohs neck and neck in the tally so far but I have not finished running all the models yet. Another week or too and I'll make you all rich again.
