Big news during the week was Setanta are going to lose the rights to show the premiership games. Setanta are running into huge difficulty at the minute as they paid over the odds to get the premiership games last year and outbid Sky. They are now supposedly in a big mess, it is as serious as going out of business i am told.
So with cutbacks in Setanta will we see them pull the plug on the league?

It could be an opportunity for the LOI.

You're confusing about seven different stories there

As of this season, all Setanta Sports Games will be played at weekends, and will commence next August

No mention of when the fixtures are out so? Think attendences will improve for weekend games.

it will all be sorted once this league realises it must move back to winter football if it wants to survive. Everything is pointing for this league to move back to winter football.
I hope your wrong red&whiterover because we seriously could do with the benefits this cup will give us for the season: More gates, higher advertising, etc.

Its going to create awful havoc with fixtures. Midweek league games will be the norm for a while. Also, for those playing in Europe it will be awful messy, game every few days

If the league knew about it it was easily avoided. As were any games that clash with europe

But they never, ever think.

Looking forward to playing in the North on a saturday afternoon myself...

Most teams will be out of Europe at that stage will they not? Your right about the fixture congestion and the league though, don't know how our club will manage it with the small squad.

Only need to win one round for it to go to August...

Well maybe you're right but with it starting in August you wouldn't know. I would be expecting Derry to do well in Europe, and likewise Bohs, Sligo and Pats. I just think it will test squads to the limit, especially the teams in Europe who seem to have fairly small squads

Certainly something which needs to be raised at the next Fans Forum.

There were definately aware of it Dodge, as Michael Hayes is on the Setanta Committee and is also heavily involved in the League fixture list.

It will turn the second half of the season into a complete shambles for successful team, with the League coming down to who can get out of the competitions/keep their players fit.

It's happening afaik. Games will be played on weekends, every 4th weekend iirc.

Yeah, the "if" bit was kinda rhetorical

In theory it's a good idea to have them on the weekend but when it involves pushing league games to midweek then it's just stupid. Clubs that aren't even in the competition will be affected by this.
