Its unfair to pick on old shows as thats like saying old football teams useless compared to todays.

So, who's going to be watching An Audience with Katherine Lynch?, the highlight of everybody's Christmas I'm sure..

gustavo
22/12/2008, 1:45 PM
only if the audience members are a pack of ravenous wolves who've been starved for a month

Longfordian
22/12/2008, 2:07 PM
I'd love that but unfortunately they're "Irish celebs". Should be a right laugh I'd say..maybe we can get the wolves to take them all out. Where could one source 50 wolves I wonder?.

*Please note that this a hypothetical scenario and should any unfortunate wolf related accidents occur on the day in question then any similarility to events described in this post shall be entirely coincidental and unintentional*.

I've seen ads for "Nightlive" and "Project Ha Ha" over the last week or so, and they look like dead certs for a mention on this thread within 5 minutes of first broadcast.

If they took Andrew Maxwell off that show it would be alot better!. Worst comedian i've ever seen, yet some people love this man.

Anyone have the misfortune of watching the new comedy on RTE 2 last night,
1. Nightlive: is a **** pull of TV3 news xpose i think, it turns out the actual TV3 news is funnier.
2. Dead cat bounce: No comment, all i can say is it didnt make me laugh once, i felt embarrased for Ireland as i watched.

Needless to say last years TV license money flushed down the jax

Did anyone see the show "Your Bad Self", the other day?

Think it was a once off...but for an RTE sketch show, it made me laugh at times...

New Entry for the title....I'm posting this 15 minutes into Lucy Kennedy's new talkshow and its the TV equivalent of scraping your fingers down a blackboard.

I can't wait 'til it finishes and I can get out from behind the sofa.

Did anyone else share my pain in watching this absolute heap of dung? Anyone....?

Had it on in the background. I'll second that nomination. Standard RTE strategy for when can't come up with new shows is to do another talkshow - sure there enough people hanging around Montrose to fill a season

It was woeful , on the plus side to give them a wee bit of credit I thought Dermot Gavins "Irish Blood" was very good especially liked the bit where he confirmed what most of us already knew that 1 in 5 harps fans are inbreed and related to Daniel O Donnell :-)

I'll add Nightlive for nomination. Surprised to see it on TV again this week. I thought it was bad enough turning a 5 minute sketch into 30 minute show but now RTE have made a series out of it.

I saw this last night I think it was back to back with something called project ha ha, it was all very confussing I don’t know if it was just really intelligent humour that I just didn’t get or utter garbage but I ended up in a bad mood after it.

When will they loose this “you have to be Wacky” concept in irish comedy

I'm amazed nobody can remember "Eamon High" a music show in the 70's. Hosted by a guy wearing an imitation space suit driving a golf cart which was covered in tin foil to make it look "space age". It was so bad it was hilarious. 70's Pop music clips with no live bands.

I'd be quite interested to see what the city versus country/town breakdown is when it comes to comedy or entertainment in Ireland and the regional divisions therein. People should indicate where they are from when they post what they think is or isn't good as I am of a solid opinion that there is a major 'culture' divide when it come to mirth on this island. Northern humour is a class apart from Western comedy. Southern wit (Cork hurlers on strike!) is way different to what tickles Eastern funny bones. Dublin has a category all of its own. This is firmly demonstrated by the fact that Dubliners for example hated the likes of Upwardly Mobile because they could not stand the fact that fun was being poked in their direction through that show. I loved this television programme and would relish seeing it again. Likewise city folk who are 'oh so sophisticated' are so out of touch with reality in this country that they don't understand the humour of Killinaskully but on the other hand think a foreign made show like Father Ted is brilliant. Just because people on another island think this is funny it does not automatically entitle people across the sea to also assume it is dazzling. Killinaskully is to me 100 times better than Father Ted.

Some shows mentioned here that I like are Katherine Lynch's wonderwomen and Nightlife. Nightlife is brilliant - it has me rolling around the place with laughter.

Project ha-ha is terrible in my opinion. The verdict is still out on the Lucy Kennedy effort. I cannot believe no-one has mentioned Questions and Answers - the most doctored and vetted programme of any that I have ever watched. Fair City is dismal as the complete lack of any humour in the plots shows how of out touch the screen writers are or perhaps how stifling the main broadcaster is. Dublin is full of characters and humour but RTE will not display this trait because when it comes to humour on the box Dubliners have their heads stuck up where the sun don’t shine. Or to put it more plainly most natives of the capital are so serious and full of themselves they think that their sh*te doesn’t smell! ;)

I live in Athlone Town - for the record and I’m proud of it!

If Athlone Town had not broken the Dublin stranglehold on soccer then none of the other teams outside the pale would be in the league of Ireland today!

No cultural divide. You're just a weirdo. ;) :p

Everyone hated Upwardly Mobile, not just Dubliners. Because it was shash.

Killinascully has some funny moments, but it shows one of both Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny's biggest failings which is that, when the one isn't around to reign in the other, they've a tendancy to flog the living sh!te out of the same joke, over and over again, until it collapses and dies writhing in agony. Most people's opinion (that I would hear I mean) would range from an OK to a poor enough show, but far from the poorest which is why it hasn't been mentioned here til now, but it's fair to say it is more popular in certain areas of the country. To say it's 100 times better than Father Ted though will just mean nobody will take anything else you have to say seriously. I know I won't. Father Ted is one of the top 10 or 12 sitcoms ever. Almost by default it is the best comedy ever to have come of Ireland in any form.

Katherine Lynch, as comedy, has no redeeming features whatsoever. She is painfully, mortifyingly, unfunny. And I'm a culchie too.

I edited the post until I was happy with what it said, not in response to any replies, as you can see. If you can't wait until I finished that's hardly my problem! :p :D
I can see how your wife's maiden name being the same would raise a giggle, but it's not a very big demographic for Ms Lynch to aim at, that one. :)

IMO Kilinaskullys just Pat Short doing the same old jokes and gags he been doing for years, It was funny for a while but got old very quickly. Father Ted is classic comedy proberly because there was only 3 series it never got old.

One of the major problems I have with Father Ted is that the show uses the gimmick of audience laughter added to the scenes. I don't need someone's else's laughter to tell me what I think is funny or not. Pat Shortt's scenes in Father Ted are great however!

What shows I like are a matter of preference and as someone who supports Athlone Town I have had to develop a special kind of humour to enable me watch them - especially over the last few seasons.:D ;)

Yes it from around the late 70's, was a quality show, much better than alot of crap were seeing now. As for Rab C (Rab C Nessbitt is the full name) I havn't seen much of it myself, its about some Scottish man from what i've seen, its usually on Paramount Comedy 2.

Cobh Town Council are on line 2. They want to know if they can use that hole you've been digging when you're done - they've been looking one big enough to use as a landfill site, and they reckon that'll they'll get ten to fifteen years into what you've already managed in this thread.

On the remote occasions when satire bites in this country, you just have to sit back and laugh at the fall out.

I've not heard the show and am unsure of its questionable quality but its certainly wound them up.

This is why any decent comedy and satire will never thrive in this country - its strangled at birth by politicians and their frenzied local constituents.

DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!!!!

Oh dear, oh dear. How wrong can one person get ?

Killinascully better than Father Ted - :D (Oh, and Father Ted may have been "made" by Channel 4, but it was created, directed and acted by Irish people - proof that we can do it - just not on RTE seemingly.)
Upwardly Mobile - Only hated by Dubs, because it was poking fun at them ? (No, that would be because it was unfunny crud.)
Fawlty Towers - Timeless classic. The best sitcom ever made. Absolutely not dated in any way.
