good point joe. this could be the way forward. better then the way it is. I would put it down to 3 matches. if a lads needs a game from the A team after injury it would give him a chance + 3 game out to push for his place back in the A team.

Its official. NO promotion to superleague if b teams finish in top 2 places. Worst decision I have ever heard.
So if Celtic B finish first and Westport B finish second then we stay in the super league...even if we finish last with no points! Doesn't sound plausable...
Good news for fahy & kilmore

is there going to be play off for the bottom 3 in super league then

If top two teams in premier are b teams, there is no promotion and no relegation from superleague. Clubs have just been informed of this.

that is bull****. all you have to do is watch the leagues and if you are not in trouble then sit back. who signed off on this rulling?

Why does the league need to sign off on it ?.

how can they pass a rule like this without all clubs agreeing to it? surly there has to be control on this activity. this rule has a knock on affect on all team outside the super league

I really dont know how they came up with it, but clubs outside the super league should stand up and be counted in their opposition to this drivel.

i agree totally with that this should be battered out the door. should there not be a vote on this throught all clubs involved.

Agreed, Super League clubs should complain too. Nobody wants a situation where halfway through the league, teams with no chance of winning the league or getting relegated are rolling over week in and week out and
lowering the standard of the league.

So if say Castlebar B and Westport B finish in the top 2 places in Premier no one will get relegated from the Super League. Crazy. What if one of the super league teams keep getting hammered? They will lose many, many players.
This seems to be a Manulla driven idea. The question has to be why though. Were they prompted to suggest this when the Mayo league get together in November.

ohh lord what going to happen next? are we going to have a super league where no-one can go up and down. when will this rulling be sent out? in the league book in the middle of may? bit late then

It was one of the proposals along with 1 team being relagated/promoted from/to the Super league and the idea of a reserve league.

this is my opion only, why dont they have an 8 team super league, westport, celtic, ballyheane, manulla, ballina, erris, s&f , the boro. these in my views are the best 8 teams in mayo, maybe play each other 3 times, this way there are competitive games week in week out, then 1 goes down and one comes up in a 1 day play off.
i think this would improve the quality of games in the SL.
maybe this season 2 teams should go down, no one comes up, and start fresh for the 2010 season.
but with regards to this season ahead, with b teams finishin 1st and 2nd, this might push other clubs in the prem league, knowing that finishing 6th wont get u to the SL.

Reserve league is the only way to go if their not happy with the current system...to say that no team from the premier division can take their place in the super league is out of sorts and to say that no team in the super league can get relegated is unfair too.
Who's to say Ballyglass, Urlar, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Achill wont turn the corner and be better sides than ur super 8 in the future. Ten or so years ago Ballyglass were one of the best sides in Connaught...

i not sure a Reserve leageue is the way to go,celtic, westport and manualla all have C team's and if the C players played with the reserve team and the B players played with the C team. at least 2 off the above team's would be back in the premier leageue within 2yrs and the problem would started all over again.

Not sure we are on the same wavelength, reserve league means no B teams or C teams in the ML proper, they all play in one reserve league? So really you'd have 30 teams, 3 divisions and a competative reserve league of B and C teams!
Could work in principal...

Is it time for the Connaught senior league to return? I know it’s not the mayo leagues decision if it starts up again, but they could certainly get the ball rolling. Top teams from Galway, Sligo/Leitrim, Mayo and Roscommon form a 2 division league and then the B teams could take the place of the A teams (except in the case of the likes of Ballina Town, where their B team could not go straight up to the Super)
I know this might bring down the standard of the county leagues but going on this debate there doesn't seem to be any simple/quick fix.

We're not on about 10 years or so ago, and i think u have missed my point was we start off with those 8 teams before named, with 1 going up from the permier and 1 goin down, if the likes of the ballyglass's, urlaur etc turn a corner then they would move up into the SL forcing other teams out.

there was 15 b or c teams in the mayo leagues last season. you could split them into 2 sections of 7 and 8 teams still giving them football. this league would be a very compeditive league as well.

Leinster have that going, but the strong teams play in both. Ballymun and Kevins in DDSL and the likes of Wayside in the LSL. It wont have the effect you think it will. Some teams will want to play connaught senior and others wont therefore it will just split into 2 codes. Negative for Mayo League I think

I play for a lower league club and i would agree with most of what you are saying except it does not explain the unfairness of a small club playing a promotion or relegation game aginst a B or c team who play players that have played in the Super league most of the season but are signed B or C.
Sport is meant to have fair play at its core, there should be no place for these sort of anomolies in the league, but the M. L. could not care less. What do other leagues do, there has to be a more equal system. Fair play to the big clubs for having such resources but if they have so many players why cant they name each squad at the start and use the squads named not pick and choose as they please. Comments?
i think there was a "naming a squad" thing a few years ago, where you could play only a few games with a higher team. Anyone remember it?seems to have changed because it was hard to police it. teams like ballyglass (i think) got deducted a lot of points one season, 5 games AFTER an illegal player was discovered, with no notification given after the first offence. (apologies if incorrect. can someone clarify?) this new free rule eliminates the above possibility.
I agree with you about the ML. they want an easy life, and this helps them, but i cant blame them for that. They are a well-run, voluntary organisation, and put most other leagues to shame.:ball:

This is crazy. Why did they only decide this now, when westport and castlebar were winning these leagues the last few years and couldnt get promoted? Baffling stupidity! what about all the other divisions with b+c teams? Do they not get promoted to Div 1 or Prem? I dont doubt you don, but This cant go ahead:ball:

Its not a bad idea, but it would take a longer transition than 2 years. There would need to be some promotion chance in 09 for a prem team.
Also, do you mean that the 8th place team is relegated automatically, and that the 7th place team gets a play-off with a prem div team?

This wouldnt work due to the standard of some B teams being way above other clubs B teams. Its not a level playing field. it would be dominated by a top 3/4, and a lot of total mismatches.:ball:
This has been an enjoyable debate.
as some posts have said, there is no ideal solution, and no one proposal is going to please everyone.
The over-riding fact is this: Any team that wants to get to the top division has to earn it, and that means that they have to beat ANY team put in front of them, even if that team is another clubs c or b team.
If you cant beat a clubs C or B team, then you dont stand much chance of beating the clubs A Team in a higher division, or the top division, and dont deserve the right to be there.:ball:

I agree, if you cant beat a B team you've no chance against an A team. Teams will earn their position in the super league from now on.
Glad we beat the rush though ;)

Heard that all games are going to be Saturday evening for Super League? Maybe thats why its starting in May so theres enough light!
Also it gives a break to the SL teams still left in the conn and fai junior cups. I'd say they'll play a couple of rounds of the super cup and Mayo cup in April maybe?

According to the papers mayo seemed to control the game, fair play to them, would be good for mayo soccer for them to go on and win it. Looking at the squad picture in the CT they have a very strong squad. Is the semi fixed for the 15th of feb or is that a predicted date?

One sided affair alright, Mayo should've been about 3 or 4 up at half time. Very strong squad with the duffy and dessie injured, neary, mcdonnell, walsh, hoban and ryan in reserve.
Dont think that UCL league is that strong from the look of the pick of players. All the better players probably play in the LSL or AUL leagues.
Think its set for 15th alright, wont be a walk in the park against AUL though!!

strong bench alright, and if you add dessie and mick duffy to that as well for the next game. AUL will be a different game by the sounds of things.
