Cant' see a thread?

Anyway, win this game and we are in great shape. Having said that, I think we NEED to win it. The 2 draws yesterday were ideal and we need these 3 points to be in the driving seat. This could be the decider in many ways.

The 1-1 v Czech Republic on October 11 06 was touted by Stan as a good result...complete bo!!ocks and a huge opportunity missed.

I'm going to be optimistic, go against historic letdowns and a 1-1 gut feeling and go for:

Eire 1 Cyprus 0

My hope is that Cyprus will come and try to win the game, if they do try and don't just sit back then I can see a nice victory by a couple of goals on the cards, however if they come for a draw(which is understandable) I could see them holding out for a point.

I'll say 2-1 though.

I am looking forward to see what Cyprus has to offer up front . I do think it will be a tight game and I do see Cyprus scoring at some stage of the game but if I had to put money on it I will go with 2-1 with Doyle and Forlan to score after he comes on as a sub , makes you wonder what the odds are at the bookies for that one .:)

I heard he has Irish grandparents.

I'd say the odds are absolutely massive.;)

Ireland 2 Cyrus 0. Doyle header and Keane slips one in from one on one against the keeper

This Cyprus team has a few handy lads but I think this country has built them up to something grander than they are based mainly on the two most recent encounters when we were being criminally mismanaged.

I'm going to stretch to 3-0 to us ...provided we play as efficiently and tidily as we generally have been doing in the previous two competetive games under Trap.

Securing the 3 points is all that matters... I'd take a sloppy 1 nil win but would obviously like to see the team build on the last 2 performances... There certainly seems to be a shape to the team now that was never there before... possibly due to the fake that we are no longer managed by the man who collected the cones after Walsall's training sessions!!!

I think what Trapp has done is bring composure and organization to the team, we are no longer headless chickens. It will be tight but we should get a win. 1-0 will be fine.

I think we will lose because we have no established central midfielders available for selection.

2-0 Cyprus.

2-0 Cyprus.

when is the last time anybody beat us by that much at home in a compeditive game... even when we were at our lowest with Staunton as manager it didnt happen. If you really believe that will be the score get yourself into Paddy Power and make yourself a fortune because Im sure the odds will be huge

Hard-fought 2-0 win.

We owe this holiday resort a 5 or 6-0 walloping, but chances are, it will be a cagey approach, and a low scoring win.

If we can't beat the holiday resort at home now, with a mega winner in charge, when will we?

Hibernian

i have feeling that cyprus will score but i think Ireland should and will win this one.

Half the battle in international football is organisation and this Irish side is nearly complete too being organised they way they should.

I have much more confidence in Trap then under Stan (surprise surprise i suppose)

Ireland 3-1

Any win will do for me. Cyprus are the kind of side will get a point if we are not on the top of our game. Going on recent performances from our players in the league, i'd say that a 2-0 win shouldn't be too difficult.

Hopefully with Keano getting on the score sheet

good news in that one of their best players; charalampidis picked up his second yellow on saturday and misses the game.
I'm going to be nervous about our central midfield pairing, who ever trap goes with. He is trying to instill a strict work ethic and structure into this...lets face it, limited side. Based on this and them losing c'idis, I'm confident we'll be disciplined enough to hold out for a 1-0 win. :ball:

A win by the odd goal would do but wouldnt it be nice to come out comfortable for once. Anyway I'll say 2-1

I'm going to go with 2-0 with Dunne and Keane chipping in with goals.

I actually think this is going to be an easier game than we expect. I don't think the Cypriots will be too strong away from home.

Stuttgart88

I'd worry if Miller starts. He's going to have to put in a really solid performance, showing a willingness to get on the ball and use it well throughout the game.

Still, I think there's more purpose & shape to this Irish team since we last played them and I think we'll probably have enough to win it. Expect the customary 20 minutes or more of loss of composure though.

ya ill go for a 2-0 win, last 2 times we played them we were a shambles. this time we should put it right.

2 -1 or 1 - 0 to us. don't be too expectant lads, anyone (not those on this board) who thinks we will win 4 - 0 or 4 -1 hasn't a clue about interntaional soccer, cyrpus are not the same as 5 or 6 years ago. They are very well organised and good on the counter.

Duggie

i think our memories of that 5-2 defeat have us thinking there better than they are. no doubt there a decent side but we should win this one at home. we have to win it.

Cyprus are only average, we will win 2:0. We are not set-up to score many goals, if we get more than 2, it will be down to individualism from the front four.
Expect the usual lst 10 minutes of panic.

Stuttgart88
13/10/2008, 5:38 PM
Cyprus may only be average but I tell you this right now: if we play as well at home to Italy as they did I'll be very happy.

shaneker
13/10/2008, 5:53 PM
I'm saying 2:1, along with plenty of others.

We are getting better but we can't forget how poor a side we were for such a length of time (Kerr and Staunton). We should win this game, I reckon Trap knows how to pick up 3 points at home against limited opposition, but we will unquestionably be beaten if we are not 100% professional - this team has been mentally so brittle for years and this is the single most important factor to our success.

Hopeful, but nervous. This is the biggest game we have had for years - a win and stage 1 of Trap's revolution is complete, in a great position in the group for the massive games against Bulgaria and Italy. Lose it and we're back at square one, and we won't qualify.

they will score, thats their game, they cant defend, its all out attack. so i say 2-1 to ireland. when really i think there might be more goals than that.

brianw82
13/10/2008, 11:01 PM
Either 2-0 or 2-1 I reckon, Trap will absolutely not let them take Cyprus lightly. We must win this if we're serious about qualifying. I read somewhere that the Cypriots' best midfielder is suspended for this game, so hopefully that'll help us.

I would be certain of a 2-0 or 3-0 win, nothing to fear, they will cause problems in Nicosia but not in Dublin this time.
