Either 2-0 or 2-1 I reckon, Trap will absolutely not let them take Cyprus lightly. We must win this if we're serious about qualifying. I read somewhere that the Cypriots' best midfielder is suspended for this game, so hopefully that'll help us.

As I was saying before, Charamaldidis is suspended after picking up his second yellow versus georgia.

Ireland 1 Cyprus 1.

Cypriot football is improving every year. If Cyprus can back up home form with some away results can challenge for second place.

A bookmaker phoned me up and gave me a free £5 bet (loss leader I presume!!) I
didn't have much time to think so I put it on an Ireland win at 1.3 (100/30 on). very poor odds. I would never have made the bet with my own money, too much risk for too little profit. You can get 1.46 now which is more reasonable.
I can see this goaless going into the last 20 minutes.

This is no sleight on Cyprus, who are quickly developing into a serious footballing nation, but this is the sort of game we have to win if we're going to qualify.

I think we will, too.

With the form that our attacking players are in at the moment, give or take Keane, who is top quality anyway, we should be putting them under pressure. Having watched the Georgia v Cyprus match, they really panic under sustained attacks, so we have to look after the ball going forward. Their full backs looked particularly vulnerable.

As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, for whatever reason they are incredibly potent going forward and I back them to register a goal in this game. It'll be an interesting test of Trap's "30 years of coaching experience" if we're losing at some stage during the second half.

I said it after he was appointed and I'll say it now, at least if we don't qualify it won't be because we've got a duff manager.

Ireland to win 3-1.

after our opening two performances, and how we hassled georgia and montenegro around the place, I dont think we'll allow the cypriots a ****in inch to play their passing game. An early goal (first 20 minutes) and I think they'll cave in. Ireland to win by 2 goals.

2 nil. Doyle and Hunt (comes off the bench and impresses).

Must win game and I have every faith with the Trap, even if he persists with Miller.

2-1 after going behind 1-0 through early nerves and a failure of midfield to gel together (gets better as the match goes on)

2-1 to Ireland with Andy Reid coming on to totally change the game.

2-1 to Ireland with Andy Reid coming on to totally change the game.
If we need a bit of creativity then surely Andy will get his chance.

Away from home they're a shadow of the team they are in Cyprus.

I think you'll win 3-1.

2-0 to Ireland with Gibson and Doyle scoring!

Gibson will be eager to justify the faith shown in him by Trapatoni!

2-0. I don't think they'll trouble us too much. I think it should be a solid victory tonight, although I can't see us slaughtering many teams whilst Trap is in charge.

3-0 or 4-0 Ireland. It will be an easy victory tonight. John'Shea or Richard Dunne will score.

3-0 Robbie Keane to score first. Cyprus the most over rated team in Europe at the minute.

2-0 Ireland
Doyle and McGeady

Gonna stick a tenner on 2-0 with Doyle anytime.

Who do you think will be on set pieces tonight?
Corner left(McGeady)
corner right(Duff)
Same for free kicks on those flanks
Gibson to shoot.
Penalties(Robbie)

I think they'll score, but I think we'll win.

Ireland 3-1. I've a feeling Gibson will score, and Dunney is overdue a penalty box belter. McGeady to score one would go down well too.

Can't wait now.

Far too much praise given to Cyprus here, they have improved a bit alright but still brutal away from home. Seen the Swiss destroy them 4-1 at home not too long ago and the team isnt much different.

3-0 Ireland, Doyle to get 2 and Keane a peno.

I reckon the Italians could have a hiccup tonight, the national side is in a messy situation at the moment.

A nervy 1-0 to us. Their performance against Italy was better then anything we've shown so far.

Although I'd be a lot happier with the 3 or 4 nil victories people are predicting !

i prefer it closer score with a win result. Two reasons, gives cyprus confidence to go further, also shows that we can come through tight games at home and still win, most important though cyprus still have something to play for and think they are improving.

Hmmm, 1-0 or 1-1 ? Let's go 1-0 with Cyprus missing a peno.

I will go for a 2-0 win, an early goal that will set us on the way, then we will become cautious and get a relieving late breakaway goal to seal it. I reckon Doyle will score, and a late Duff goal. But as someone mentioned earlier we will have the customary nervy 20 min ........after half time. Cyprus will have about 2 (max) good chances...we are well soild now!!! For the post match g-up im going for some Rory Gallagher......

Hope A Reid gets a run out at some stage, if we are comfortable he may? he will get a massive reception if he gets on, the public like him and we will let Trap know...C mon the boys in green

Sadly - but correctly - I doubt Trap will care what the public thinks.

2-0 Ireland. Both goals scored in the last 8 mins. Debutant Caleb Folan to score in the 82nd minute after justing coming on. Keane to score second with a header in injury time.

This Cyprus team has a few handy lads but I think this country has built them up to something grander than they are based mainly on the two most recent encounters when we were being criminally mismanaged.

I'm going to stretch to 3-0 to us ...provided we play as efficiently and tidily as we generally have been doing in the previous two competetive games under Trap.

That's what I'm going for al well.
Revenge will be sweet tonight.

Cant' see a thread?

Anyway, win this game and we are in great shape. Having said that, I think we NEED to win it. The 2 draws yesterday were ideal and we need these 3 points to be in the driving seat. This could be the decider in many ways.

The 1-1 v Czech Republic on October 11 06 was touted by Stan as a good result...complete bo!!ocks and a huge opportunity missed.

I'm going to be optimistic, go against historic letdowns and a 1-1 gut feeling and go for:

Eire 1 Cyprus 0

I'd say there were a lot of gut wrenching thoughts of a 1-1 throughout that awful disjointed game...or 1-2
