Just 2 hours to go to the big kick off.

I wonder what formation Pats will go for. I will guess teh following:

-------------------------- Ryan

Lynch ------------- Gavin ------ Harris ------------ Rogers :o

Guy -------------- Dempsey ---- Fahy ------------- O'Brien

-------------------- Murphy ---------- Quigley

If he goes for an attacking up the middle 4 3 3 then there will be goals  but Im not sure who will get the most. Its most likely that they will use a 4 4 2 like above.

Predictions 4-1 Pats :D

i think if Pat's sit back and try and catch them on the break they'll be in for a hiding.

if they try to match them by playing football they'll be in for a hiding

i think the best way to beat them would be to play a high pressing game and rattle them early. If they can rattle voronin which won't be difficult then i think they have a chance. If the crowd can make an intimidating atmosphere ten who knows

I've wrote it in a other thread also, but I think it's suitable here too.
I want to give you the tenor of germany to the match. The german football magazin Kicker wrote on monday in a article:

Favre: "It could expect us a hurricane"

At first the elimination in the 2. round of DFB Pokal and than the defeat in the last bundesliga match against Cottbus: Hertha BSC stand under huge pressure before the ireland-trip.
"We have an advantage, we are 2:0 in front" say Hertha coach L. Favre. "But St. Patrick's Athletic will show a other performance as in the first leg in Berlin. It could expects us a hurricane tomorrow. We must be able to abide mental the pressure." [...]

So you can see, Hertha BSC is nervous and affraid because of the last bad results. They aren't in a good form. I think Pats have a great chance to beat the germans. But if it will be enough to achieve the next round is a ohter question.

You know I'm a german and I live only 250 kilometers far away of Berlin, but today I'm absolutely for St. Patrick's Athletic. I hate fu**ing Hertha BSE and was already to the match in Berlin at the guest area to support St. Pats...

I worry that the attendance could be terrible: 5 o'clock kick-off, match live on TV and perception that the tie is over. I can imagine people catching some of it on the box and being very unimpressed at the empty spaces. Reminds me of my brother-in-law (typical Man United fan) catching a glimpse of Pats at home on TV in Europe some years ago and remarking 'There's nobody there!'. 'That's because everybody is like you and only watches the Premier League' I (should have) told him.

Well its great to see football fans in another country supporting Irish footy. It is usually the other way about. :D

Good luck Pats. Do Ireland proud.

I honetly think they can do it. 2-0 at full-time then win on penalties.

I think they had sold 3,000 tickets in advance, and sold out the two middle sections of the grandstand. Plus plenty of people seem to be planning on getting tickets tonight. A lot of people working near by who might pop in out of curiosity. A good few from here seem to be heading and I don't think any have bought tickets yet. I know I haven't. Hopefully get at least 6,000.

Anyone know a website I can watch the match on.

Look here: http://www.rojadirecta.com/

There you can find one Soapcast and one tvants link. Hope fr you they will function. Other possibility: Go on http://zattoo.com/de , Donwload the programm, take the registration as a german and if you have luck, than you can watch the german channel DSF - wich will show live the match.

By the way: It's fu**ing brilliant to see german TV Live coverage from Dublin, Ireland. They speak all so respectful of St. Patrick's Athletic. That's absolutely great. Also good for Saints: Pantelic will not playing because of a injury.

Crowd is shocking. They would have been much better off holding it in Dalymount or even Tolka. At least then they'd also get floating eircom League supporters from around D3 or D7... D4 is hardly a hotbead for LOI fans... A packed Jodi stand whould have looked much better on tv too.

0-0 Pats doing well. Playing the ball confidently around midfield and winning frees in the Hertha half but their end product is letting them down. May have to rely on setpieces if they are to make a breakthrough.

Should of been 1-0 Pats. Gary Dempsey missed with a close range header.

Bloody umpire flashed his tits at him, he was put off, and he fisted it straight at the goalie. Missed out on the 45 as well.

4 mins to half time best chances have been to pats so far

paul_oshea
30/09/2008, 4:45 PM
still they need to be scoring from them. they were very unlucky to have conceded 2 in the first leg, that could haunt them yet.

bad feeling two clubs are going to feel very hard done by and unlucky come the end of the season look back.

Denied a blatant penalty............the clowns in the EL would have seen that and they see nothing!

There playing well. Goals are a definite possibility in the 2nd half with the wind.

Only saw couple of minutes at end of the half. Seems both section behind the goals empty & Germans on the far side. Any idea what the crowd is? 5k?

Can only speak for myself but would definitely have gonne if ko was 6.30 or later.

What did they do with the real Hertha Berlin, Pats played them off the pitch!

Only for the ref missed the penalty Pats would have been 1-0 up. If Pats don't concede they will score the 2 goals to bring it to extra time.

paul_oshea
30/09/2008, 4:54 PM
ah thats a pity penalty there and they would have had the goal before half time and were in with a serious shout then.

ya the wind should help the ball sail over the bar!

robertob
30/09/2008, 4:56 PM
Really good first half. Pats playing well and make a lot of pressure but forgot to shoot on the goal. Shame that the referee didn't give the penalty. It was absolutely a hand-ball! Now it will be very hard to make the important two goals. Hertha is save in the defense and I didn't believe that Pats are strong enough to give the same power about 90 minutes like the first half.
