s at the game, it had everything from goals, sending offs , disputed goals and pens, great entertainment.
First half was poor enough with not many chances but the 2nd half it really took off. Wexford took the lead but a great run down the left by Derek Varian resulted in a penalty and on rising off the grounnd he was struck by an opposing player. Wexford had aman sent off but from everyone on the line it was the wrong man. Derek McCarthy stepped up to make it 1-1. but down to 10 men wexforg kept coming and with Brian O Sullivan playin poor they always looked in with a chance, it came with about 10 to go 1-2 to Wexford. Cork had brought on both Paul O mahony and Shane o Neill at this stage for John Betts very quiet it must be said and Figo. 2 mins to go and a great ball through by Delea and O Mahony held his cool with a great finish 2 all.
extra time started an first half was a bit of a feeler, On the restart Broadfield was brought on for Keegan who was playing very well. Cork took the lead through O Mahony but with less than a minute to [play The wexford no 7 got the ball outside the box turned in out and in again lokkin for a pen and Peelo duly stepped up with a trip. 3-3.
Pen were very good with neither keeper saving any till the end.

well deserved victory for Cork they were robbed on their own turf but managed to get through, the performance of the officials was laughable.
Only in Cork would that penalty been given

It's amazing how things can be seen differently. Here's the report from http://www.wexfordfootballleague.com (http://www.wexfordfootballleague.com/)
Oscar Tarynor Quarter Final:
Cork AUL ---3 Wexford Football Lge---3 (Cork won 7-6 on penalties)
Wexford lost out to the Cork AUL for a place in the Oscar Traynor Trophy semi finals, in a dramatic penalty shoot out in Cork on Sunday last. The match was played in Mayfield on the all weather, synthetic pitch. Cork had the advantage of the strong breeze in the first half, but it was fairly evenly contested and the half ended scoreless.
Wexford began brightly in the second half, and on fifty one minutes, a great move opened up the home defence, and Philip Druhan of New Ross Celtic finished neatly under the keeper. Wexford continued to dominate the game without adding to their lead. They were made to pay for their waste on seventy five minutes when the home side winger got into the penalty area, and with a blatant dive, conned the referee into awarding a penalty. When he got to his feet, he was pushed in the back by a disgusted Wexford player, and the ref, after consulting with his linesman, sent off an innocent player in Garret Larkin, much to the dismay of the Wexford contingent at the game. The penalty was duly converted to make it one all, and Wexford reduced to ten men.
It was to their credit that they continued to take the match to the home side, and on eighty minutes, Eugene O Brien looked to have scored a deserved winner, when his shot squirmed under the keeper and over the line to restore the Wexford lead.
The loss of the experienced Larkin proved critical in the final few minutes, when the Wexford defence got caught completely square near the halfway line, being undone by a simple through ball with two Cork attackers having loads of time and room to put through Barry Byrnes goal for a scarcely deserved equaliser.
The extra time followed the pattern of the game, with the first half scoreless, and Wexford having the use of the wind in the second half. It was the home side who took the lead with just four minutes left on the clock however, when a cross from the right undid the Wexford defence for Cork to take a 3-2 lead. Things didn’t look good for Wexford, but a great run down the left by Ricky Fox saw him get into the box and a home defender took him down: penalty for Wexford, which Leighton Gleeson converted with aplomb, and a home defender was dismissed for dissent. The final whistle sounded soon afterwards.
The ensuing penalty shoot out saw a very high standard of penalty taking. Cork went first and scored their first four. Wexford scored their first four: The fifth Cork penalty clipped the bar and went over: Great chance for Wexford to win it with their fifth penalty, but Leighton Gleesons effort also clipped the bar and went over. We were in sudden death at this stage, and Cork scored their next three, Wexford their next two, with sub Emmet Dunning being the unlucky one, when his penalty was saved by the home keeper, to put the Cork side through to a semi final meeting with either Roscommon or the South Tipperary league.
This was a really hard defeat to take for the Wexford lads, as they had put in a terrific effort to qualify for the quarter-finals from a tough group, and they’ll know better than anyone, that they left this one behind them, but, as they say that’s football.
Wexford: Barry Byrne, Stuart Dunning, Garret Larkin, Graham Howlin, David Purcell, Sean Culleton, Leighton Gleeson, Philip Druhan, Michael Grangel, Eugene O Brien, Ricky Fox: Subs Used: Mark Lee, Emmet Dunning and Anthony Hayes.

The truth is there was very little between the sides. Cork just about edged the first half, Wexford controlled much of the second half and looked like winning until the madness started.
Both penos were blatant dives. The Wexford pen in particular was laughable, I imagine the ref was trying to even things up after the first pen!! The sending off was for a push in the chest (the cork player collapsing to the floor holding his face didn't help thigs either) spotted by the eagle eyed linesman who then identified the wrong player to the ref who sent the bemused player off:mad:
Couldnt agree with you more kroc the linesmen were shocking but the ref well everyone knows in Cork that he loves causing controversy i can take a guess what buckley called him:p

Cork AUL in two weeks, home game for the Rossies. Gerry Tully has done amazing things with the team. Donal Warde opened the scoring after 22 with a bullet from the edge of the box. Darragh Concannon made it two up to the break. Paul Kennedy got one back and MArk O'Brien made it 3-1 on 89 minutes. Ros missed a penalty as well.

Held up well yesterday, fully floodlit and they just opened the main part of the clubhouse. some of the best facilities in the country in my opinion. On a dry day the pitch is like a carpet. Even the back pitch is top quality. Has turned into the biggest sports story of the week in Roscommon outshining even the GAA!!

we had to play on the back pitch last weekend, the main pitch wasn't up to a match, the 2nd pitch was in great shape, given the conditions last weekend around Galway. I was surprised yesterdays game went ahead on it

Yes it would be great to see both Roscommon and Mayo reach the final. I think the AUL have seven or eight International players in their squad. The Mayo team will really have to be at their very best to win, but then again football is a "funny old game" as Greavsie used to say.
Roscommon have a great advantage in playing the game at home, and could cause a surprise.

Lads,
My brother is on the panel so I hope they can win the long overdue Cup. 1960 something since we won it. The rest of us always up against it with the Dubs, but lets hope one of the three of us do it. We are missing a few too so it should be close............otherwise we are going on strike in Cork!!!

Brilliant game in Shiven, Cork went in front with an excellent free kick before Roscommon pulled one back. Then Cork were awarded a penalty which looked a bit dodgy but from there Roscommon threw the kitchen sink at Cork. Should have been awarded a penalty but ref missed the handball. Ros also had two shots cleared off the line. I'm gutted to be honest with ye but well done to Cork AUL and the best of luck to them in the final. Nice bunch of lads, met them after the game. Their keeper had a stormer too. Hope ye go on and win it now.

In my opinion, from a non-premier club (First division), our top Premier sides would only struggle against the top 3 MSL sides. No danger of relegation from the Premier, but Avondale, Rockmount and Douglas Hall may be a step ahead. They would stand upto UCC & Blarney ok I believe.
The MSL juniors never really advance in the Oscar Traynor and we have met a few in pre-season and were not out of our depth, so I would liken the top Junior sides to our AUL 1st division.

Sat 7th March
Cork AUL vs Dublin AUL @ Ferncarraig Park Wexford
Just on to say best of luck to the Cork Aul gonna be atough game but as seen in all the previous rounds ye have the mentality and capabality to win.
Side note why in the blue flu is it on here?
Half way??? Tis the same journey if not longer from Cork to Wexford as to Dublin. If a toss was made an Cork had won ther would have been a great crowd at it, lots of local and passing intrest down here for it, I bet the same up in Dublin by having the game here the Fai have taken out a massive intrest
