That was the same the previous year, even with the exodus of some players.

I don't agree with that. As far as I remember anybody I know and others on the eL forums agreed very early on the Drogheda were going to win the league. Bohs, Pats, Derry and Cork were all in transition at the start of that season and very few people that I communicated with expected anything other than a Drogheda win.

This season there were less teams in transition and more teams improved their squads. If you go and look back for the thread that asked people for their predictions at the start of the season there was a lot of punters that had huge variants on who they thought was going to win the league. This directly as a result of the league not being the foregone conclusion that it was the year before where Drogheda started out as the strongest team, quickley overtaking Pats and then finished the strongest team.

Ah yeah, I completely agree with you. But we're not arguing on what predictions we had at the start of each season, we're talking about the league after the games were played.

Agree that Cork, Derry etc were in transition but it still could have been a strong, competitive league. Same this year, everyone thought that it would go down to the wire, but as it turned out, nobody, except Bohs, have performanced well on a consistant basis this season, and now we're in for a flat ending to the season (from a neutral point of view).

OK. My last post on this as I don't want to seem pedantic and we could be going around in circles forever on this. Expectations as I said were different this season than they were for last. The world and his dog had Drogheda tipped to win the big one last season which they duly did. This was in no small part on the basis of the strength of the other clubs. i.e. they were weak.

This season, the money was going all over the place on who was going to win the league. This was on the basis that all of the other clubs had strengthened there squads. QED Stronger league. So while the perceptions (which we both agree) were based on the league being more competitive (i.e. the argument you are making)- which is a different argument to the fact that the league is stronger this year. There is a subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless. And that is that Bohs had stronger teams to beat this year than Drogheda had to beat last year and that is the point I was trying to make.

Reading over it again it does sound pedantic because it probably is. But it is the point I wanted to get across in defference to your orignal point.

As I said when I rang you to wind you up after the game, it is a stronger league this year, the proof in the pudding being that you, with pretty much the same squad as last year are nowhere. The reason we have run away with it is that WE ARE INVINCIBLE! ;)

Still not beaten Derry yet though. Two lucky 0-0 draws and a 4-1 whipping in the LC.

INVINCIBLE!.........time will tell.

So you really are that sad that you think beating us in a competition we saw as a nuisance this year somehow diminishes our sixteen point lead at the top of the league, the fact that we've won ten on the spin, the fact that we are the league's top scorers and that we've only conceded eight league goals?

I think he's just saying you're not invincible. Which, of course, you aren't. As we all know you've been beaten in the league this year. ;) . If you were unbeaten on the other hand - that would give you reason enough to label yourself invincible.

In all fairness BP, he's right. We were indeed beaten on the second weekend of the season. And who wouldn't want to be in the final of the league cup?

Goddamn the féckin' league getting in the way of the bloody league cup. I suppose there's always next year. Ho hum.
