Will changing the cell to Text work ?
Trying to format a crosstable for football results but have come across an annoying problem.
When I enter a result (3-1 for example) it keeps coming up in date format (03-Jan). If I right-click, then format cells and change number to general it then comes up as 39540. Even when I change to 3-1 then it comes back up as 03-Jan and the format has changed back to what it was before.
Will changing the cell to Text work ?
If you're going to run stats from it, try using two seperate cells for each teams' score

What Dodge said.
Or enter '3-1 - ie put a an apostrophe before what you want to enter as text
(but I'd agree with Dodge, gives you more flexibility in the future)
dman i have this done using vlookup so when you put in the results it updates the table automatically hold on let me show you ill upload.
all i ask is that if you update it can you let me know and send it back to me as i would like to get it to a really good point but unfortunately haven't had time to do it since
its actually for Gaelic football but the same thing applies( i was asked to do it for a friend ). let me know if you want it and if you do ill upload it.

Another excel question.
How do you make one or more columns and cells stay in the same place while you scroll through other ones? Like this for example.
http://www.stigonline.com/ucd/appearances.xls
Go to Windows->Split
Select where you want the headings to stay where they are and then go back to Windows and now select Freeze Panes
Cheers.
Is it possible to do it horizontally? That's what I need...
Alt W and F (Freeze I think). That's a tidier way of doing it. Wherever the cursor is, that's where the freeze goes.
