FAI open to running the league in the future

    Interesting piece on extratime.ie.

    Full article here: http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/1160/

The current format for the League of Ireland has seen the FAI undertake the running of the league for the last two - and future three - seasons. However, given the progress the FAI claim to have initiated in the league, Chief Executive John Delaney has spoke of how important this system has been to Irish football.

"I think when we took over the league, the whole thing was to get it into shape, because I felt the league was in a real difficult place a couple of years ago. My only regret was that we didn’t get in two years earlier again," said Delaney.
Personally, I think we're better off having the FAI in charge than returning it to the old system.

    I agree.

The old system was a recipe for minnowism and parochial in-fighting.

Having the FAI in control is better - so long as they have the balls to take decisions that need to be taken.

And the first decision should be to defend itself from the unreasonable media attacks and not to just sit on their hands.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Yep, we're much better under the stewardship of the FAI. They are in a much better position to attract investment, sponsership and tv coverage contracts. They are fairly objective on what the league really needs which can only be a good thing for the development of the league.

Yes, in a similarly back handed compliment type of way.

Doesn't licencing, which was supposed to bring control to the leagues finances, pre-date the FAI taking over? So they have been in effective control for longer on the financial side. They'd want to start growing a pair soon, as there is little evidence of them having any so far.
