    Rule Changes

FAI announce two major rule changes that will take effect this year.

I guess the one supporters will notice is the 7 subs allowed. I guess this is in line with European competitions and most European leagues. Personally I believe its a good thing but will some clubs struggle to fill the bench?

I always found it embarassing when clubs couldnt even fill a 5-man bench, why not promote your Ateam?

It can happen on the day of a game.. somebody gets sick or whatever before travelling for an away match and its too late to get anyone else. Rarely a problem for home games.

Should not make too much of a difference really and may make it easier for younger players to get their chance.

hopefully this is true. But wasnt it Paul Cook (correct me if im wrong) who only put 3 on the bench on 1 or 2 occasion a few years back as if to make a point to his club that he needed more funds? I thought this was a bad move. Unfair on A championship and u20 players. Hopefully it will blood more youngsters into the league

Clubs are struggling enough as it is without having to shell out extra for dugouts that are 40% wider. Another stupid and short-sighted move from the FAI!

You can sit the last two subs on the wall beside the dugout.

The FAI Cup games had 7 subs, so clubs have some experience of it.

Would hope they are reviewing the number of yellow cards and the how/ when it affects suspensions.
Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!

    Exactly what I was thinking!

I say make the kitman sit on a chair beside the dug out, bit of rain will do them no harm.

That was Bohs away in '09. We only had four fit first team players. Brush, Cash (who played right-back), Ryan and one more I can't recall. We had three young lads on bench as three first teamers pulled out in warm up. Rovers couldn't register the other A team lads in time.

Although yes, we did have a tiny squad of first teamers back then.

Not really, clubs wont have to name 7 subs if they dont want to.

That's all very well for you to say when you can just get Gerry Gannon to buy you all the dugout space you want. This is going to really affect clubs like Bray. Not only are the capital expenses going to be prohibitive, it'll make that area of the pitch you can't see behind the dugout slightly wider!

The 7 subs thing is a good idea. When are we going to find out about the structure of the league in 2012 though, and how promotion and relegation is going to work this year?

You dont keep up do you

Bray doesnt have to name 7 subs if they dont want to. They dont have to extend any dugouts if they dont want to so calm down a bit

There will be dozens of games in the First Division this year where one or both teams wont be able to produce seven subs.

What's the point? You can only use three anyway.
