He needed to hold Trapps hand & he is biggets PR coup in years for the FAI. I would be surprised if Trapp has already charmed some Corporate types into buying some boxes.

But it wasn't to do with selling boxes, it was showing up at a LoI clubs dinner, where he wasn't one of the guests of honour. If it was about hobnobbing with corporate types at the Races, why would he choose Cobh v Sunderland on Monday when the races were also on?

It didn't matter whether he was at a corporate fundraiser for Galway United, or was presenting Ballincollig Rovers U12s with their runners-up medals from this seasons league. He had a prior engagement.

If Longford/Sligo had arranged for months for the FAI CEO to attend an important club event, you would expect him to attend.

In fairness to him, the last time we invited him to something he turned up with Stan in tow.

You'd also expect him to know the UEFA Calender, and plan accordingly

Of course you conveniently forget that today, Wednesday, is the CL day. I think no matter what he does will be a problem for some fans. Be careful what you wish for he might turn up at your events in future.

There was a Galway United corporate fundraining dinner in the new stand at the races, Trappatoni and Tardelli were the guests of honour, i assume then it becomes a FAI event aswell. This was arranged long in advance of the C.L draw.

I am Multi millionaire i am the CEO of a major company who is interested in greater public exposure through a sporting medium. We are already looking at the possibility of sponsoring a league, JD knows we may be interested in the league of Ireland as the league is within our Marketing budget.

I am introduced to JD at the Galway Races, i am already a Football fan and the conversation freely flows over a glass of chardonnay in between the first races. He talks about great strides the league has made and how each club are trying to attract more fans to the matches.

I like what i hear and i tell him of my company's interest in supporting the league, he is delighted as we are well known successful company which is highly regarded and the kind of company the FAI would love to have him onboard. I ask him about the Drogheda game is he hopping on a helicopter to make it, "no" is the answer, i make my excuses and leave his company but all the time thinking to myself If the CEO of FAI can't be arsed going to see the biggest game a club from the their league is likely to play then why would i bother sponsoring it, what does that say for the league trying to attract new people as his actions sends out a signal to the general public they can't be arsed with the league.

As i leave the room i shout back at him "that is a serious own goal you just scored JD and give the fingers and say no wonder Eircom pulled out".

Some people around these parts need to see reality before they do themselves some damage. eLOI is NOT the be all and end all of all things football in this country. Of course it doesn't get the exposure it should get but with some fans acting the way they have in this thread, is it surprising? All this makes fans of domestic football do is look very small and bitter, something that will not help things in the long run.

He wasn't "at the races". He was at a fundraising event for a Premier Division Eircom League club.

Fair enough in a way but I just think that sometimes there is this awful 'holier than thou' attitude from some LOI fans. The drogs game was only arranged last week, this Galway event surely was arranged months ago. Galway are in dire need of the money, and the support, as for the drogs, its just one game.

I'm no Delaney fan at all, especially after his smartarse remark about Dundalk fans at the San Marino game, but sometimes people seem to go out of their way to knock him.
