Plucky Failures? I think that's a bit tough on the lads!

To have two Irishmen in a Main Draw Grand Slam is unbelievable - especially when one of them had retired six months ago due to injury.

That these players can produce these type of results with the very limited resources that Ireland can provide them is fantastic, especially when you see Britain having one man in the draw on what's essentially unlimited finances!

The two lads have performed brilliantly to get this far and have been really unlucky with how things went for them in the first round. Its great to hear Louk saying its given him the confidence to go back and start competing in the DC for Ireland and even to have the experience of playing the World No1 @ the Arthur Ashe will be really beneficial during the Australian Open for Conor.

Irish Tennis is coming on leaps and bounds at the moment and lets not look on these defeats/retirements as a set back, rather a breakthrough.
Weaseling out of things is important to learn, it's what seperates us from the animals!! Well... except for the weasel.

It's not at all tough on the lads my friend. I think you construed comment on the perception of Irish tennis unfairly as a criticism of 2 of our greatest players.
I apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Isn't it a pity Britain's finances aren't unlimited in what they can dole out to LTA staff!

I was going to ask, I thought Sorensen had retired. Is he semi-retired instead and doing a limited set of tourneys?

He had retired, due to persistent injuries. Announced his retirement, and within three/four weeks he was taking part in ITF future events in Germany. He obviously had a change of heart after playing in a few of his local events and got back into it from there

yeah a real shame. He was a great ambassador for Irish tennis, but again injuries have forced his retirement. i think he'll continue to be involved in the irish set-up in a big way in the near future.

He's been a great servant to irish tennis and a pioneer in irish sport - we have a lot to thank him for
