Athenry FC Premier League Champions 06/07
Athenry defeated Salthill 1-3 on Thursday evening to win the Galway Premier League .Won it in the best way possible by beating their closet rivals Mervue & Salthill in the final games!

14-5-07 Athenry are League & Cup Champions
Athenry are the new Western Hygiene Supplies Premier League Champions and Michael Byrne Cup Champions 2006/07.
Athenry defeated Salthill in Drom on thursday 1-3 , to win the Galway Premier League title for the first time in the clubs history. Athenry went 3 up in the first half , with goals from Alan O Donavan, Stephen Rabbitte and Paddy Quinn. Salthill replied in the second half but Athenry deservedly went on and took the title from Salthill & Mervue.
In the Michael Byrne Cup Final Athenry trounced rivals Mervue Utd 4-0 in Terryland park yesterday with goals from Benny Costello(2), Ollie Keogh and Alan O Donovan. Athenry went about the task brilliantly to defeat Mervue and land their second title in 3 days. Athenry now look forward to the Connacht Cup Final this coming Saturday.

Well done Athenry and best of luck on Sunday. Athenry had to beat Hibs, Mervue and Salthill in the final three games to take the title and did so with style!! A fantastic achivement!!!
When was the last time a non-city club won the Premier??? When was the last time Mervue took such a hiding?
credit where it is due alright. from talking to a fair few people i don't think anyone begrudges athenry the league and m.byrne cup and i think all neutrals will be cheering them on at the weekend.
Mervue won 2-4 against Hibs , so they finished second in the table.
