Did Cawley or Ciaran Martyn ever play for Sligo?
I was thinking about this after Darragh Ryan signed for Cork.
(a) Is he the first player to play for both UCD and Cork City and
(b) Were Cork the last club in the league to have never had a former or future UCD player? (Wexford aside obviously)
A few examples for each club -
Athlone - Andy Myler
Bohs - Dave Tilson, Niall O'Reilly, Willie Doyle
Bray - Jody Lynch, Clive Delaney
Cobh - Robbie Dunne
Cork - Darragh Ryan
Derry - Ciarán Martyn, Pat Jennings, Clive Delaney
Drogheda - Mark Rooney, Pat Sullivan, Gavin Whelan, Glen Fitzpatrick, Mark Leech
Dundalk - Rob Dunne, Neil Gallagher, Aidan Lynch, Robbie Mac, Philip Hughes
Harps - Might have a second one here...
Galway - Barry Moran
Kildare - Darren Quigley (!), Austin O'Neill
Kilkenny - Willie Doyle, John Brophy
Limerick - Peter Hanrahan, Austin O'Neill
Longford - Andy Myler, John Martin, Robbie Martin
Monaghan - Willie Doyle, Brian Gannon
St Pat's - Anto Murphy, Bazza, Mark Rooney
Sligo - Or a third?
Shamrock Rovers - Andy Myler, Jason Colwell, Glen Fitzpatrick, Bazza
Shelbourne - Glen Fitzpatrick, Alan Cawley
Waterford - Alan Cawley
Wexford - None yet obviously
Any links with Harps, Sligo or Cork?

We're not arrogant, we're just better.
Your man Gaffney (scorer of the less famous goal against Shels) signed for U.C.D. from Sligo. Don't know if he ever featured though.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.
played in a friendly or two i think, not sure though? playin junior league now
I see some players that are on the list are former players at those clubs. In that case you could add Mick O'Donnell to the Galway section.
You can't spell failure without FAI
John Gaffney played twice for us - good call. Leaves only Harps and Cork.
Don't know how I forgot Micko...
Have a look at this thread and see if there's any former UCD players mentioned that played for Cork.
None that I can see.
For what it's worth, Willie Doyle and Andy Myler both played for us in Waterford as well as Cawley. Tidy player you got off us there, BTW.
Lloyd Colfer was with ye at some stage I think, so if he played a senior game you'll have your first Wexford one the minute he lines out for them.

Don't mind me, I was drunk.
Couldn't tell the difference between yourselves and Bray, all ye 'Dublin' teams look alike to me.
Still a tidy player mind, shame we couldn't hang on to him. Sure he went before our temporary demotion too. Ah well.
I'm also sure we had another of your lads with us about eight years back, but damned if I can remember who. Did Derek McGrath ever play for ye?

Cobh Ramblers... Gary O'Sullivan was on loan to Cobh Ramblers for half a season when he was officially a Shamrock Rovers player.
He was a part time player at the time who had to move to Cork for work reasons on a temporary basis.
Finn Harps ... Paul Cullen was at UCD 1988-92 and played for Harps in the late 1990's.
Sligo Rovers.... Aidan Reynolds from the Cup winning squad played for Rovers the following season
Pierce Walsh also played for both clubs, UCD in 1984-85, Sligo later on in his career. Pierce also played for Athlone, Longford and Finn Harps.
Waterford United.. Robert Griffin left UCD in 1998 for Waterford United his hometown team. Andy Myler had a spell with the Blues too.
And the answer to your question is
a) Darragh Ryan is the first player to play for Cork City and UCD
and b) Yes again. In all our time in the League only one player from County Cork ever came up on a scholarship and became a first team regular. Martin O'Sullivan.

Robbie Griffin!!!
Ta CTID, how could I forget.
Fine player but with a stack of blank sicknotes. The only player I've ever heard of to be concussed for three weeks solid.
