    Foot.ie! England Expects

Did anybody watch that programme on Wednesday night, narrated by Graham Taylor, on ITV? I thought that it was a very good programme, and it brought some issues into the open.

Missed it. Always liked Taylor -and not just for the delictable feast of entertainment he served up during his time with England. Oh does he not like that! What was it about ...from the title I'm guessing tab-fuelled hysteria.

The expectancy of England winning trophies at every tournament, the pressure on the players and the management, particularly from the media, the decline in home-grown talent and why the media builds up and knocks down players.

I liked the way every past manager blamed the media intrusion and the fans expectations as reasons why they failed, never mind their own shortcomings. Bringing Theo Walcott to a major tournament before he had played in the Arsenal first team, mind bogling.
