    Political support

    For whatever use it will be this is a copy of a mail I am sending to the Limerick East TDs. Maybe others would like to copy and paste into their own. Their addresses are:

    jan_osullivan@oireachtas.irlgov.ie

    ppower@oireachtas.ie

    minstate@justice.ie (for willie o'dea)

    michael.noonan@oireachtas.irlgov.ie

    tim_o'malley@health.irlgov.ie

    ====================================

    Deputy ?,

    I am writing to you in connection with Limerick Football Club, which is in a very difficult financial position at present. There is a real risk that the club may not be able to continue, bringing to an end 67 years of senior soccer in the city. That a city which prides itself on its sporting traditions would find itself without a senior soccer team is quite alarming.

    The club has been relatively successful in recent years, winning the League Cup in the season before last and this year they are well placed to challenge for a play-off place for promotion to the premier division. The team is a very young local side with lots of potential. It would be a shame if this was not to be realised. The club has been given until July 11th by the FAI to come up with a viable plan to ensure it can continue for the remainder of the season.

    The recent history of senior soccer in the city is a difficult one. The bad will generated by those involved in running the club in the mid-1980s seems to linger and the club has recently been forced out of its home at Rathbane (despite the FAI supporting the club through providing floodlights and seating). The club is currently playing in its third ground in three seasons atthe Pike Rovers Sports Ground.

    Only two weeks ago a supporters club was launched to help the club increase its profile in the city and to support the team in whatever way possible. Therefore, its current plight has been a real disappointment to us. The supporters club, of which I am a member, is trying to mobilise support to save senior soccer in the city.

    I am writing to you to draw your attention to the situation and request your support in activities that the supporters club may undertake to save the club. Thank you for your time.
