dominic foley has signed for potuguese side sporting braga

arent they taking notice of what coming back home can do for you

with crowe and flynny gettint the recognition they deserve,ud think more would follow suit

cant see kerr going out to potrugal to watch him
would have a better chance of a recall if he came to cork city

    Fully agree with you corner.

If Foley came home and started to make a name for himself ( if he's still as good as obviously thinks he is ) banging in goals, I think he would have a much better chance of getting back in the Irish scene.

Crowe is obviously in the spotlight.

Look at what Flynny has done this week, and if nothing else Dolan, with all his shouting / complaining to the FAI about him, will only help to keep John up on the radar screne.

Houlhan also did well for himself at The Cross and obviously figures in Givens's plans.

Foley has banished himself to the wilderness of the Algarve........but I suppose the weather is better!

Dominic Foley had talks with both City and Bohs but no definete offers. The only offers "on the table" were from Oxford United and Sporting Braga in Portugal. He was in Portugal on trial last week and was offered a contract there and then. Afaik it is a 2 year deal. I wouldn't rule Foley out of the picture for City though in the furture. He is getting married to a girl from Ballyhea next Thursday and his long term plan is to move back to Cork.

open to correction, but wasn't he looking for way too much money off city and bohs, didn't he just price himself out of interest from the clubs?

Aren't Braga in the Portugese top-flight? If so it's a good move for him because he's staying in a fully professional league. I say fair play to him for making the most of his career and using it to experience new places and cultures. Disappointing that he hasn't come home but give the guy a break!

It's a good move for him in fairness. The portuguese league is a step above us at the moment. I did hear that his demands were too much for city or bohs though

Foley was on about 2500/3000 sterling a week with Watford. This would be about 4500 euro max. Now I know he wouldn't get that in England now but I reckon City would be offering 700 to 1000 euro tops. Bohs maybe a bit more. As Eanna said Sporting Braga are playing at a higher level than us at the moment so I don't think in fairness you can blame him for taking this offer. Also moneywise he will be on about 2 times what he could have expected to earn here at the moment.

Finally isn't it better than he signed for Sporting rather than the Bohs ?

the portugese league is better than ours but it's closer to the scottish, there's only two or three teams who challenge for honours and the rest are pretty poor and get nowhere. but if the lad can get 4500euro playing ball in the sun, fair play, city wouldn't have matched that.

Good move for him, fair play. perhaps he can resurrect his career at that a la Phil Babb. Anyone who reckons he is a waster for not comning to City is an idiot.

Besides, we probably dont need him, he would probably have been another Liam O Brien, and we couldnt afford him.

good point about Babb, after a promising start to his career, he was ruined at liverpool and porto helped him regain some of what he'd promised.

having said that he was playing great ball in portugal, but it took a move to sunderland to get him back in the irish team.

Yeah and where's Phil Babb now? I think he was released by Sunderland and is now clubless?

In fairness though if, as people have said, he is getting 4000 a week for moving to sunny Portugal then I say well done to him.

I also think we don't need him, I'd rather have Flynn and George, he might be good cover! He's not worth the money.

yeah, i agree, cork city isn't a safety net for has-beens.

what's he going to do, expect a contract when he retires abroad, thinking he can get by because the standard is low. we screwed up bringing in liam o'brien, if foley doesn't come now, i for one don't want to see him here when he's 34.

Calm down boys, he hasn't even suggested that he wants to ever play League of Ireland - just that he wants to move home in the long-term (probably after he retires). So, nothing to worry about!
