It prompts the question of how well the likes of Garvan, McCann, Gibson, O'Toole or even Jamie McCarthy would fare in similar circumstances.

Was O'Hara even getting good reviews at Millwall?

Tets has already pointed out that O'Hara wasn't even eligible in the first place so any questions are purely hypothetical.

I didn't say he wasn't eligible, I said he's already played for England at under-16, under-17 and under-19 levels so any desire he does have to play for Ireland has manifested itself recently. AFAIK there's been no solid proof that he does qualify, only newspaper reports that the FAI are investigating if he is eligible for Ireland.

Tets, I did read this from your post, I thought it was coming from you rather than the Star.
"he was linked with Ireland by the Star, and was later shown to have Irish great-grandparents and was ineligible for the Republic."

You could hardly blame him for that it was a mismatch of the highest order. Blame Ramos or the experienced players for that.

    but

he was left standing the exact same way stuck to the ground when bendtner scored for arsenal. It was a carbon copy of his error against arsenal.

Crazy for him to be picking up Laursen anyway who towers over him.

how many goals has Laursen scored from set pieces this season? - he's scored 5 in the PL so I'd imagine most have come from set pieces. 1 of the experienced lads at Spurs should have noticed the mismatch.

Again, he should not have been paired up with Bedtner either.

Off the subject but what would we give for a Santa Cruz. Like Stapleton or Givens at their peeks. Do we have anyone like that coming through the ranks?

    we wasnt paired with bendtner.
tom huddlestone was marking bendtner til he ran blindly into the back of an arsenal player leaving bendtner free.
o'hara was marking gallas for what it was worth.

There's a big centre forward named Jim O'Brien who plays for the Celtic reserves or youth team or something, I'd say he'll probably break through next season.

He's 6 feet tall and he's only 17 or 18, so he could be our next big man. I saw him score a couple of goals in pre-season with Celtic and was overall quite impressed by him.

I've only seen O'Brien play for our U21s and a couple of times for Dunfermline. He's more of a wide man I think.

Are you thinking of Cillian Sheridan or Diarmuid O'carroll (both big centre forwards) at Celtic?

Why has this been moved. People are only discussing him in the light of the fact he may (however unlikely) be a future Irish player.

I think the fact that he'll be 22 this year, and has played for several sucessive English underage teams without requesting an Irish passport & change of National alliegance before his 21st may have something to do with it.
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

Can I just check something. Is the rule that if you play for an underage team for Country A and then want to play for Country B (that you are also eligible for), you must declare/play for country B before your 21st birthday?

Roughly, yes. O'Hara has played underage for England already, though as far as I know this is only binding in a COMPETITIVE underage game. Even if O'Hara's underage appearances were only in friendlies I think he may need to have had an Irish passport at the time he played for England.

You can change "nationality" once before your 21st birthday, as long as you have not played a full international (even a friendly full international). If you have played a full international or are 21 or over, that's it.
