    What are you talking about??

If you hadnt noticed Bohs are yet to make an appearance in the Setanta Cup.

This is a matter of fairness nothing to do with individual clubs.

Is this is turning into the Special Olympics where taking part matters more than winning....ie this lets give everyone a chance bullsh*t!!

<P>The problem is that Derry may have to play Cobh away if they win the league, when they have already beaten them on the way to winning the League Cup final.&nbsp; If there was a Play-Off then the league cup winners should have had Home advantage in the play-off, instead of a toss of the coin.</P>

Only team can win, so I fail to see your point.

particularly when the preceding line is

This is a matter of fairness
So is about giving everyone a chance or about fairness?

Let's assume the League Cup winners did get automatic qualification into the Setanta Cup.

But Bohs didn't win the League Cup, so can't qualify through this route anyhow. They can't win the FAI Cup, so can't qualify through this route. They haven't won the League, so can't qualify through this route. So, unless they finish second, they won't qualify through this route either.

So, what is Sean Connor complaining about? If they had won the League Cup and then missed out in the play-off, maybe he could have complained. But why is he complaining if/when they didn't qualify through all four routes available to them?

Why do you insist on making this a Bohs issue? This is not a matter of how it effects Bohs I am saying that in the interests of the competition you would want the best teams in the league to represent the league and with all due respect to Harps/Cobh they wont be in that category. The alternative would be a team who went through a competition unbeaten (ie winners of a cup).

To reverse this then would you be discussing this if Harps werent in with a shout?

My point about fairness is that some teams are getting two cracks at qualifying for the one competition while others are only getting one!!

Every team in the league now has 3 ways of qualifying for the Setanta Cup.

    Sounds fair to me

Doesn't the winner of the premier division qualify also? So no team has only 1 chance.

Is it similar abroad (in properly run leagues) that first div sides can qualify from their league for an "exclusive" competition?

Cant wait to see if your tune changes if you get pipped for a Setanta spot!!

Well then they won't have any trouble beating Harps/Cobh then will they?

There's nothing farcical about it. It bring much needed exposure to the first division winners as they prepare for the Premier. It creates interest generally due to the novelty factor, imagine the buzz from a Harps/Derry showdown and how good it will be for the profile of the EL.

And its decided on the field of play. If Derry or any other PRemier club, having won the league cup by winning 4 games can't beat HArps/Cobh or any other Div 1 club then they don't deserve the Setanta place. Fact.

If you are looking for comparisons for "fairness" BTW, look no further than the English Championship, where the team which finishes 6th can gain promotion to the Premier League (reputedly worth £60m) ahead of the team which finishes third. One of the reasons the Football league have playoffs is the interest they generate, even though inherenty they are not fair.

Some people round here can't see the wood for the trees.

We complain about play-offs, we complain about the dates of games, we complain about summer football, attendances, winter football, tv coverage, setanta cup and what ever else isn't going our way.
FFS its the rule set out at the start of the season, what good is bitchin' all the time going to do?
If Derry are the better team they will beat either ourselves or Cobh and we will have no complaints.

I tell ya what, at the end of next season, we should set up a poll on here and decide who should be in the setanta cup, all sorted, the results will be sent to Delaney and democray will have prevailed.

Ah sure f*ck it just let the winners of the first div play Drogheda and if they beat them then they are the best team in the country and deserve the league trophy..........anything can happen in a once off!

It devalues the competition and thats what Connor AND Rico are trying to point out.

We can call them the "Super Champions" - and a nice big trophy three times the size of the new eircom Chalice.

Plus they get to decide who else they want in Europe with them the next year - the supporters of the Super Champions club can have a text vote to decide

Right - anyone got Fran Gavin's phone number - I feel we could be onto something here

Then why not make the league cup winners get home advantage then, instead of having the possibilty of playing away from home, having won the cup. I dont care who we have to play, but dont like the thought of having to travel to Cork or Ballybofey as cup winners on a Monday night. Also will this match be live on Setanta.

Wonder how many Bohs fans would be on here complaining if they weren't knocked out of the FAI cup by Cork at the weekend?

Another big conspiracy theory there Sam.

I have held this opinion for months ask anyone who speaks to me on a regular basis.I have also expressed this opinion on the Bohs MB for weeks.
