in fairness brady was terrible with celtic, and he hasnt managed in yonks, would he really be up to it? Plus some of his selections on the punditry are strange to say the least. I could see him picking one player in every team selection that would make us go "why is he still picking such a such" or "why isnt he picking someone else there"

You would worry about Brady's managerial history although in fairness financial conditions weren't ideal at Celtic or Brighton during his time there. He has been hugely successful developing young players at Arsenal however (manager of their youth team for the last 10 years) and if everyone (I'm looking at you Robbie) is so worried about the young lads coming through, who better than Brady to nurture them?

In fairness, I suppose on paper O'Leary looks the best option, but I'd give Brady the benefit of the doubt rather than settle for Dave's patronising brand of management any day.

Everyone is pouncing on the fact that Brady said he would be interested. Nobody is even mentioning that he followed it up with "but I think Ron Atkinson would be a better appointment"!

    FAI STATEMENT October 23 2007

The Football Association of Ireland and senior international team manager Stephen Staunton have agreed by mutual consent to terminate his contract following a meeting in Dublin today.

FAI President David Blood thanked Stephen Staunton and his management team for their dedication and commitment to the senior international team since their appointment in January 2006.

Mutual consent is par for the course and proper order.
The FAI did well to hold court with Stan in a seperate location. The story of the dumb hacks tailing the red herring was quite funny.
    Outwitted by the FAI.

Just heard an interview with Delaney on Newstalk and he claims the fan reaction had a big impact on the decision.

If that's the case, a big enough protest against Delaney at Cardiff, and Delaney HIMSELF will have to act "for the fans" and F**k off !

The reporter from The Star said that Delaney has a contract that goes through to 2012. Not sure how much he is on per annum but it looks like it will take quite a lot to get him removed at this stage, what with Staunton's golden handshake to pay for.

Delaney trying to sound sincere when claiming the the responsibility was his.

About as sincere as a sly fox.

Last week it was the commitees fault!!!!!!!

    Next week it'll be Stans.

How come Devlin keeps his post. Value for money audit required here. What a waste.

Had to laugh at Delaney saying he had the support of the affiliates. Most of them know as much about football as a rats a*se. They're presiding over a house of cards. They have a big capital expenditure programme for Lansdowne. Without the money generated from international football the grants will dry up and if the shambles continues that's what will happen. Brian Kerr, who'd be more in tune with grassroots football got it right on radio when he said the committee were totally discredited

The FAI has 10 Million more this year than they had last year largely due to playing in Croke Park. I would argue that if the new manager doesn't turn around the results there will be a marked drop in block bookings for the WC Qualifiers later in 2008, and there won't be as much to play with next year .

He'll probably reward himself for saving Irish football by
sacking Stan by giving himself another 6 year extension!!!!

"I accept the majority of the responsibility for my part in the appointment" Delaney told a press conference in the early hours.
    I love this quote.

He won't even accept full responsibility for his own part in the appointment

So who's to blame for the rest of his part - the voices inside his head? The boogie? Maybe even his achy-breaky heart

Cascarino today on O'leary becoming the next manager

"Professionally, it would be a logical choice, but my personal view is that he is the most insincere man I know in football" - Tony Cascarino is clearly not David O'Leary's biggest fan

    Quality Jerry

Just on Brady. I think it would be hilarious to see him get the job, and then watch Dunphy and Giles turn on him when it starts to go down the toilet.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

I wonder what he means by the logical choice?

He is Irish and out of work.
    or
He is an astute coach and has the pedigree required to steer Ireland to a major championship.

    The first description me thinks.
