    Jackman Park

Has Jackman Park been used in the league before? What are the facilities like for spectators? How many grounds in Limerick that still exist have staged eircom league football in the past?

4 by my count, Jackman, Hogan Park, Markets Field and Pike Rover's ground. Could be more though

    Good reply Jebus!

I haven't been at Jackman since the League days. I seem to remember you could get a good hot-dog there. I wonder who's getting the catering franchise this season.

Your list of grounds is good and complete as far as I can remember. Thomond Park was used for a friendly against Spurs - was that in 1980?

    Cheers.

Indeed, I think we took the lead after about 90 seconds against Man. City, if i remember correctly. Barry Ryan scoring?? final score was.....(cough) 4-1 to the visitors.

Thanks lads - all very interesting. Are any of the former grounds still used by junior clubs? Which is the favourite tradional ground for Limerick soccer then?

    Hogan Park = Hill Celtic
    (Pike Rover's ground = Pike Rovers !)

I have to admit I loved Hogan Park especially the "scenic" walk in to it - but I'm probably alone on that one !
Not very inviting for away fans but thats what I loved about it.

Although it was before my time, anyone will tell you that the Markets Field is where Limerick senior football should be calling home. Indeed I still talk on a daily basis to people who don't believe that a Limerick senior soccer team not playing in the Markets Field should represent the teams that played there

Markets Field is used for greyhound racing unless I'm mistaken (I'm not a greyhound racer)

Nope its the home of Munster rugby, being redevloped at the moment

Not fully sure of the total amount of years to be honest

I bet you these wisemen dont and havent gone to support Limerick since they last won the league. There is no point even wishing about this because all avenues that were tried with the greyhound board had been exhausted.Any further discussion on that, unless things change, are a waste of energy but excellent pub conversation, which never has to be proven or delivered on.
Did they tell you the pitch was crap ,the dressing rooms were in bits and would probably not be allowed as ground for football anymore from a safety point of view???
Having said all that Hogan park in its current state is an absolute pigstyand would depress everyone who goes near it.

I think the last time Jackman was used was the time Hogan was unplayable and there was a summer freindly played against Shrewsbury, prior to that was the match against Kilkenny which was a draw which saw Limerick promoted to the Premier under no less than the bold Sam Allardyce!!

Not a hope. We played in Jackman under Noel O'Connor in his first stint there and won the league cup in the same year. That period was the last Jackman was used......

Hope the weather is good for the next two fridays now and we get good crowds. Id like to inform all that Limericks second game is on good Friday so all bars will be closed but not if you have a "club" nearby which i think we have done a link up with to be our clubhouse for the comming seasons

On the merchandising side of things, we should have flags, hats, new scarves, two types of t shirts, class tracksuits and more. Not sure about jerseys yet (sponsors pending)

hope to see ye all there.

Yep, and tell your friends over there too! Better still start a supporters club over there and mail us back a few pics for the website.

Yes pics of the jerseys, tracksuits, jackets, teeshirts, poloshirts etc will be up with prices soon. (and may I add well done to the comercial and marketing manager for getting his team organised so quickly)
