Yeah it would have had to be done anyway but it's hard to come up with all that cash together plus wages and other expenses

Its too easy to say that security is the clubs problem - what will happen in the final ? Will the two clubs have to share a €50k security bill, plus all the other expenses. Clubs would have been happier being told you get 20k to make it into competition and that IFA/FAI/Setanta would cover the costs.
In our case dojng the car park is a plus, but its not a permanent solution, it'll have to be done again in the future.
Agree that its a lot of expense for Longford.
However I suppose if there was trouble and not enough security precautions were put in place people would have been giving out so the Gards are taking no chances since its the first running of the Setanta.
Hopefully future runnings will have less security.
I read on the irishleague forum the Guards will be out in the towns on the route from Belfast making sure the supporters buses aren't attacked. Seems a bit excessive as well.
I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?
Ye that does seem excessive alright. Everyones probably 99% sure that there will be no trouble but because of that 1% doubt Longford are €10000 out of pocket. This is the first time in many years a team from the north has played a competitive match down here so the guards dont want to be seen to take any chances. On a side-note if this is how much a club has to fork out when another one from the north comes down to play, imagine the security costs for all teams if we did have an all-ireland league. Would be bigger than any wage bill we see!!!
Good question, it's not like they'll be of any use if anything goes wrong anyway.

Bit of a doubt as to this match actually taking place on Monday now due to the death of the Pope, the FAI have to liaise with the Government and make the decision on what to do. Major blow to us financially if it's called off considering how much we've spent to comply with the ridiculous demands of the Gardai and the loss of the gate money, we'd have to be compensated if the FAI pulls the plug.

I wonder how a minutes silence would go down?
Ah sh!t, it has to go aheadOriginally Posted by Longfordian
Just been reading the comments on Irish League Forums Re a possible minutes silence in memory of the deceased pope. Its clear that their fans are worried that this could cause problems.
I for one do not believe it is fair to put the followers of Linfield FC in the position where a couple of idiots shouting stuff during a minutes silence could cause huge damage to their reputation as a club. If there is to be a minutes silence, let it be at the next round of Eircom League matches. Let's avoid hassle on Monday night.
ps Good luck Longford, its time to put the Irish League boys back in their box.
Its going ahead isnt it
Going ahead but there will be no minute's silence, which is i think the wisest course of action.
