Before my time but sounds remarkably similar to Poznan '91.

Indeed I do. Not a bad side ok but slightly weak in the goal keeping department with Mick Kearns of Walsall fame between the sticks while John Giles must have been close to his pension https://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/3/1980/3464 Never realised that Don Givens' real name was Daniel Givens. We won 2-0 at home so I'd take both of those results. It was the era of one step forward, two steps back. Can't remember where we finished in the group.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

I think Giles may have been responsible for two of the goals against ( certainly one ) . I’d say the Dane’s targeted him as he was past his best and they certainly dispossessed him for one of the goals . I don’t really recall Mick Kearns letting us down considering the level he was playing at club level .

I was only a young fella so my report may not be as good / reliable as one would like .

It was obvious (very ) that it was the end of the road for Giles .

Possibly the last time either Northern Ireland or England beat us in a competitive game.

Denmark were just beginning to emerge (from bangers to dynamite) as an exciting intl team, having just come fully out from their imposed amateur status.
From that wiki page, the games in Copenhagen v Ireland and v England were the big ones attracting a big crowd. A much smaller crowd witnessed them beating NI 4-0.
Even when we were cráp, we were 'scalp worthy'.

I think this was Mark Lawrenson's competitive debut as a youngster at Preston and he had a great game. It was an exciting game, we hadn't won an away game in donkeys years and it looked like we'd finally done it, but things always went wrong in that era

Serious demand for tickets (which we already knew). Threshold was set at 6 away games over the last 2 campaigns (excluding Scotland).

Pretty much excludes everyone except Paul O'Shea and the YBIG crew.

Unfortunately, due to such high demand for tickets, we cannot accommodate your request on this occasion.

We received in excess of 7,000 ticket applications which far exceeds the allocation that we have received.

On this occasion Supporters with a season ticket who attended 6 or more away games across both this WCQ campaign and the Euro 2016 Qualifying Campaign (excluding Scotland) received priority in the allocation process.

The Association will of course continue to lobby for additional tickets however we would feel that this stage that it is highly unlikely that we will receive any more.

We appreciate your patience during this process and thank you for your continued support.

    Kind Regards,

    FAI Ticket Office

I'm not on YBIG and I got a ticket. I did put 'I'm a personal friend of Paul O'Shea' on my application though.

Looks like the tickets went 15% to Abbey Travel, 53% to sponsors, officials, league clubs, 21% to supporters clubs leaving around only 21% to independent travelers. No wonder many people have been left disappointed.

Did you actually meet their said criteria John?

Loads picked up tickets in wales as well granted we had more tickets though, but we had almost 2/3s more fans.

I think they've done alright this time the FAI. Compared to Scotland certainly so, but I just got on with it when I didn't get a ticket. Everyone nowadays has an over-inflated self importance.

One thing I know of though is the supporters club are well looked after regardless of general previous attendance. It's all around membership as opposed to games attended. It's a tricky one.
