Interesting one. He looked past it at Palace this season in the cup game against Brighton.

However, he was excellent for them a couple of years ago. Perhaps he can rediscover that form.

His experience will be an asset to the young lads anyway, especially in Europe. Big ask for the 2 young fellas.

He obviously won't be playing every game, but between him and Benno it's good to have.

Being past it for Palace doesn't mean he wouldn't be brilliant at LOI level though.

But I would have thought that if there was another year or two in the legs, he could have played at Championship or even League 1 level for more money. Maybe he just wants to come home and finish his career with Cork.

Playing until the end of the season before taking up the role full time with Derry, or so I'm led to believe.

He was offered an extension at Palace but turned it down. Hopefully he did just wanna come home.

    My thoughts too.

Cork are making a bit of a habit of signing players like this (Healy and Miller being two others off the top of my head). If nothing else, it must be good for the club's brand image in the city.

Is he free to play straight away, or does he have to wait until July 1st?

He could well work out to be a very good signing, but he’s done well too getting an 18 month contract considering he’s turning 37 soon.

His experience will be bigger plus in my book, especicaly working with younger players, where is all this leving Aaran Barry I ask ? I was amazed he didn't nail down a spot down there, seems to be 4th now, soon 5th ? I know his form when he started wasn't great.

Barry is a fine LOI player, but we have better options. McLoughlin is superb, McCarthy has massively improved and Bennett will always be ahead of him when fit and available. Delaney is a massive boost too. A guy that has played for us previously, has a great attitude and had been offered an extension at a Premier League club......my guess is Barry will be gone.

Assume Johnny Dunleavy isn't far from a return now too?

It definitely helps pr wise. The amount of likes and shares the social media posts announcing the signing have got show that. Palace and Roma sharing it helps. You'll have people come along for a look at him.

Poor Johnny is always 'not far from a return'. He's been so unlucky with injuries. He's a good guy and I'd like to see him get back, but we'll see.

EDIT: also, any chance the thread title could be amended to 2018, or just drop the year altogether.

It’ll be interesting how Corks setup goes from July 1st. Starting 11 made up of centre backs and right backs

Centre back; Barry, McLoughlin, Kane, McCarty, Bennett, Delaney.
Right backs; Tobi, Beattie, Horgan, Kavanagh (Soon to return from loan)

    As well as Dunleavy.

On another note, id guess Barry back to Derry with Kane out on loan?
