Thumbs down I think we got ahead of ourselves

After seeing city fail to beat Monaghan today i think we've all got ahead of ourselves in thinking we could challenge for the league. I hope i'm proven wrong but from now i think i'll take anything as a bonus. At least i suppose it happened sooner rather than later.

I know we are only 5 points off top but you really have to wonder how did this happen.

Dispite the fact we really only missing 2 defenders from injury we had 3 forwards on the bench as well as 1 young defender whose never played an eL game. While its obviously a good idea to develop your squad while doing well the team is seriously lacking ANY midfield cover. Since Kelvin appears to be leaving there are no other midfielders in the squad that have played for the first team! When Gunther decided to take off Bucks (please someone tell me it was an injury & not tactical) he had to put skippy on instead.

BTW i've been less than impressed with Bennet lately & think hes suffering from mid season burnout as he doesn't seem to do much in games....

    Worth noting

That all the teams above us have still to come to the 'Cross, whom we have a good record against.

We have alot of young fellas who are bound to be tried during their first full season especially after having the early Intertoto start.

I dont see all the doom and gloom that others see.

    Question pressure

Yeah lodas of good young players but too much to expect a championship challenge? Maybe theres too much presure on them?

Nothing short of maximum 6 points in next 2 league games or $hel$ will be away with.

i,ve been giving some thought as to what is the very minimum we
    fans should expect every season.
1.we should be the top team in munster. it,s easy now but I,m
talking about all the time and success is cyclical.
    2. city should be the top club outside of rovers, bohs, shels and
    lately st pats at worse.
3.ideally we should be in europe every year-even the intertoto
cup which i like even if others don,t.
4.city should have a cup-run in either league or fai. they should
not lose cup ties at home to anyone.
5.the club should be developing the ground and improving facilities to show they care about us. remember some amateur clubs have better facilities than us.
i,m anti- murphy but his results if not tactics have been good this
season after a diabolical start. he passes on 1 and 2; 3 remains
to be decided, and fails on 4. i,ll give him the stamp of approval
on this basis.5 seems to be happening but we,ve had too many false dawns and not enough flancares.

    1. yes we are
    2. no, derry are probably better than us.
    3. fair enough.
    4. since 98 when we won both cups, we've had a terrible cup record.
    5. care about us?! that'll be the day!

I agree with SOCfc I don't see that much doom and gloom ahead, I rekon we can take anyone in the Cross, Derry will be very hard and probably are a better side, but at home with so much at stake we should do it ! As for Murphy out, if someone can find a better man to replace him, fair enough. But remember he'll be working with the same lads with the same rescources, maybe less... I presume a better manager will cost more?
The light at the end of the tunnel could be an oncoming train!

Well we've had a funny way of showing that this season haven't we. A good team does not lose 4 home games in a season.
