    SD Galway

Reasonable performance from the Youths tonight as a late goal gave them a comfortable three points but further improvement is no doubt required for the next matches. With Shane D. suspended and Danny and Brian Nolan injured, Youths started with Graham, Mark, Jamie, CJ, Jimmy, Aidan, Patsy, Craig, Deano and Shane N. and Tom up front. Pitch again looked very bumpy and first half was undistinguished. First effort came about 18 in when Deano turned in the box but his left-foot shot went well over. With the half-hour gone, Gaffney for SD did his hamstring, pulled up and was immediately substituted. Two later, the only bit of quality lead to the Youths goal when Tom chested down the ball into Shane Nolan's path who took a touch and drilled it low left into the corner of the net with Grant, the SD keeper, not even moving. On 35, SD had a reasonable effort when a header from a corner seemed to hit the outside of the post and went away. With five to go, Tom went over an outstretched SD leg in the box and the ref. seemed to point first to the spot but then waved play on. Shane had another effort late on and CJ picked up a yellow for a tackle for 1-0 to the Youths at half-time.

Second half was only slightly better. After five, Aidan picked up a yellow for a tackle. Five later, Deano had a cross which was deflected but Grant got down low to grab it easily enough. SD were keeping a very high defensive line at this time and the Youths were regularly caught offside when they needed to show more composure. With half the second-half gone, SD commendably began to commit more men going forward and created somewhat more. With 20 to go, an SD effort curled over the corner of the Youth's goal and five later they got a header on target which Graham grabbed comfortably.

With ten to go, SD had their best chance to equalise when a half-volley from twenty out had to be pushed away by Graham. An SD player then picked up a yellow when he charged into Graham so late that it could easily have been a red. Crokey then came on for Shane N. and the Youths got a nice second when Deano was put free from his own half, held the ball up to allow Tom to advance and collect a nice pass which Tom stabbed past Grant for 2-0 to the Youths and game over. Late subs for Wexford were Clarkey and Murt for Deano and Jimmy and Clarkey had a good chance for 3-0 but he pushed it wide of the post.

Best for Wexford were Patsy, Deano and Shane Nolan. SD played some reasonable football at times but were toothless up front without Mikey Gilmore although Bradshaw did well for them at left-back. Attendance was called as 275. 2-0 to the Youths at full-time.

Comfortable enough win but we'll have to improve for next week to pick up anything. Its a pity attendance dropped so much in two weeks too
